Only 4% of the top 100 box office films are directed by women. 80% of film critics are male. Films with a female producer are less likely to depict female characters as sexual objects. With such extreme statistics, how are women finding their voice within this billion dollar industry?
We follow Alma Har’el on the making of JellyWolf for The Fifth Sense, and explore the current state of play within the film industry through the eyes of female filmmakers championing diversity, and creating their own platforms and opportunity. We also take a look into Alma’s own initiative Free The Bid to see how she’s tackling inequality within the field firsthand.
Featuring leading women from the world of film including directors Crystal Moselle, Lola Bessis, Janicza Bravo and Sundance Institute’s Tabitha Jackson.
Directed by Eva Michon
