After decades of under-representation, women directors are finally on the rise in film and advertising. Alma Har’el lead the charge for equality with her initiative Free The Bid in 2016 and has now launched Free The Work, a global talent discovery tool for unheard voices across many disciplines.

So, you have an almost 7-minute video explaining what the woman at @1:06 explained in 12 simple words. "We are trying to hire women but we just can't find them". It is the same problem as trying to hire a male teacher or a male beauty therapist. Some jobs certain genders just don't want to do. The ones who want it, will do it no matter what barriers are put in their way.

The funny thing about this is that women only want to be directors. It's a job where you get to make decisions and be in the spotlight and that's all they want. They don't want equal opportunities, no one is helping those women who want to be cinematographers or grips, camera assistants...? it's a lot of hard work, who wants that. Nobody is acknowledging either the women in the shadows who were calling the shots long before any feminist movement. Like Kathleen Kennedy, without whom Spielberg wouldn't be who he is and Megan Ellison, Shonda Rhymes, Kathryn Bigelow, Nora Ephron and so on...They never said it wasn't fair. In film, it's all about the work, you do good work you'll be noticed, even the woman in the video got commercial offers after her Movie won film festivals. If you suck, don't complain that you're not working because you're a female. that's just something a woman would do.

they are asking to be taken seriously. Its not a handout its asking for the opportunity to work. Not taking something for nothing in return. They are saying people women who work hard should be considered for jobs. They never asked for money for nothing so your being misleading. Its almost like you didnt even watch the video and just resorted to your ideology

It's hard to make a breakthrough in becoming a director no matter what. I couldn't drop out of uni, go to film school, and expect to be the next Christopher Nolan.

I think Hollywood suffers from an ISM problem. Racism, sexism, ageism and for sure nepotism. Until you change the ownership I think the problems will persist in my opinion. Certainly on the grass roots level I see many postings for jobs where it specifies POC or women or visible minorities are encouraged to apply. There are some production companies I have seen that have mostly women as employees. But this is because the ownership has an interest in hiring like minded people.. in this case it happens to be women. But in reality there are still way more men than women in the industry to this day but I do see a change but not really a 50/50 mix.

I thought that the "casting couch" was the oldest problem. Sexism is a result of us not raising our sons to be respectful of women. Come on parents, stop letting your sons off the hook for their bad behaviour.
