Mine are largely the same, except I'd put 2-step neutral characters at the top (Mu-12, Venom, Dizzy, more recently Testament/Asuka in Strive). Their learning curves feel very smooth just because there's a safe and clear way to turn any slight advantage into pressure or pressure resets, so I don't have to play keepaway for very long, and I get to have more fun while I'm nailing down the combos, setups, interaction points, etc.

I've seen them described as 2-step neutral characters, and I think it fits really well. It's like you have setups for neutral and setups for pressure, so you have at least one clear and decent line of play at all times. They're my favorites as well (adding Mu-12 and Testament to the list).

Marie and Rise in Ultimax are two of my favorite characters in any game and I feel like that archetype is woefully underepresented. Having setplay, being able to zone but not really be a zoner, being able to rushdown but not really be a rushdown character either. I think a lot of shoto/standard characters are close but always lean too heavily into one aspect for me.
@YoYoCheese6 Жыл бұрын
Weirdly enough, I usually find myself playing either grapplers (Tager, T. Hawk, Cerebella) or pixies (Chipp, Talim, Valentine). Sometimes I'll find myself going for some kind of zoner (Mech-Hisui, Vanguard, UMFE EX Geese) or maybe a charge character (Heidern).

At first I liked shoto because of their rounded tool kit. Then I enjoyed rushdown/mix until I realized I was doing it wrong. Then I tried zoners because I like neutral control and avoiding dumb interactions up close. Right now I'm trying to figure out my #1 preference, but strong defensive tools, including movement, is definitely my most-wanted checkbox. As I evolve as a player, my playstyle preferences evolve with me.

Ive never really gone for specific archetypes in games. I just tend to play who i think looks cool or has some kind of moves or style of fighting i like at the time. Ive played grapplers, zoners, rushdown, setplay, shotos. I will say though one character i have had the most fun playing is chipp in strive. He just lets me go totally balls to the wall and i love the feeling of going up and mixing someone to death knowing i could be dead in several clean hits. He was the first character i ever looked at when i first ever played guilty gear 2 (and had no clue how to play) and so figured id main him for nostalgic reasons. He is crazy fun.

somebody might say "oh so you like broken characters" but I guess you could call that a Button Monster, since thats their thing bc good frame data is normally reserved for stubby characters. Not a competitive reason but I love characters whose combos bounce all around the screen. One of things that bug me the most about fighting games is The Corner. You've got all these fun cool movement options and a big fancy screen but it doesn't matter because you're either in The Corner or doing everything you can to get to The Corner - which is always just slightly unsatisfying to me. So no matter how bad she is, I love playing as Bullet in BlazBlue because even if I'm in The dreaded Corner, I have good combo options that involve throwing them back into the mid-screen air, slamming them into the ground before chucking them straight back and it just feels lovely.

I main Jack-O’ in Strive (wow big surprise), Clairen in RoA1 (probably 2 as well), and Wizard is YOMI Hustle. Ever since I came around playing Sol in Guilty Gear, +R I've been wanting to play more characters like him. He is kind of a shoto, but also kind of a fast grappler, and he always has a tool to completely smash an opponent's sense of security. Think you're safe near the game's height limit? get DP jumpscared. Your good old projectile that's reliable on like 90% of MUs? Grand Viper on read. Idc. Trying to anti-air on read? Sol's damage is scary, right? better block more- Oops, wild throw time. A lot of his tools are very risky but it's part of the fun for me! When you use his options creatively to get away with your bullshit or when you read do a read that is super risky and specific but can win you the match and you KNOW your opponent is thinking "NO BRO YOU DIDN'T DO THIS" is just the best.

I've always been someone who enjoys normal zoners, or at least that's how I play them. Folks like Vega, Dudley, Johnny, Gordeau, Hakumen, etc. I've also been playing a lot of trap and puppet characters recently. So characters like +R Eddie and Rachel. Honestly, it really comes down to how powerful I feel with the character. Generally I have strong fundamentals so abusing good spacing and pressure is kinda my jam. As I said though, when a character feels strong, that's who I play. This also applies to the category of execution-heavy characters because they feel infinitely flexible even if they aren't super strong overall. Examples would be folks like Lord Raptor or +R Johnny (and yes I know Raptor is good lol).

Idk about a specific archetype, but I do tend to lean towards characters who can zone or play really well with more defensive play, but I overall like to just find ways to take quick advantage of mistakes my opponent makes (I'm not good at combos in games that aren't Dead Or Alive XD). As such, I play characters like: Asuka and Eliza (Tekken 7) Marth/Lucina/Chrom, Bylteth, Palutena, and Peach/Daisy (Smash Ultimate) Talim and 2B (SoulCalibur VI) Mai, Hitomi, Ayane, Honoka, Naotora Ii and Alpha-152 (DOA5) Mai, NiCO, Honoka, and Hitomi (DOA6) Mai, Yuri, Athena, B. Jenet, Isla, and Kula (KOF XV) Inquisitor (DNF Duel) Basically, I like characters who don't necessarily need to be super aggressive and can instead capitalize off of defensive play or zoning, but also don't have to exclusively be played that way. I also just like playing female characters XD. Those aren't all of the characters I play in every game I play, but they give a general idea of what I look for to mask my inability to do big combos

I go with anything I want, don't really take into account the archetype. For example, I play Zangief in sf6, poison in sf5 (yes ik), elphelt and bedman in xrd rev 2, Testament in strive, Jubei and recently Tsubaki in BBCF. And then there's Armour King ticks off all of the boxes for me. There's just something that makes me want to play him 24/7.

yea but you have options when you get up setplay characters decrease your options or can even increase their own options and mix you up off the knockdown
@lordknightfgc Жыл бұрын
All characters have it as long as they can set up advantageous situations, but some are far far better than others. Consider the difference between getting a safe jump into pressure vs setting something that leaves you extremely advantageous + covering not only reversals, but also other system mechanics like parries or guard cancels, along with enabling some type of mixup... that also loops into itself. Knockdown is clearly advantageous, but for some it's their stand out feature, if that makes sense.
