Ah yes, the era of youtube which was so edgy and offensive, but in such a self-aware way, that the content kind of became a satire of itself. It had this energy of "if you take something this absurd seriously, you have issues" mixed with "but if you genuinely condone this sht in any way or form, you've also got issues". Good times, good times.

I wouldn't say cringe era, but more of corporate era. A lot of videos I see are so high quality and filled with ads/sponsorships, it misses the scuff that was early KZbin. I don't think it's bad nor good. Also a huge thing people don't talk about is how the personal the algorithm really is. My KZbin recommendations are going to be vastly different than my Mom's recommendations lmao. So it's hard and honestly kinda dumb to try simplify an "era" of KZbin. It makes for a good conversation topic tho

I think the adpocalypse was 100% bullshit. I think corps realized a bunch of people could suddenly become rich off youtube. (Remember this was the era where youtube was steam rolling new content and had cery very very little restrictions) all of the biggest corps pulled out because they didnt want to be associated. Meanwhile during 9/11 i remember coca cola ads, wal mart ads, etc on tv. But they didnt remove those ads for the time. Point being the adpocalypse was to make it harder for youtubers to become rich. Everything since then has throttled creators. Only a select few are pushed

I might have played and enjoyed Hades without the dialogue...but I for sure never would have put more than 100 hours into it (the voice acting is like S Tier and the dialogue has tons of variation from funny to serious, you could just enjoy it for its excellent craftmanship). For some people smooth challenging gameplay in rogue likes is enough to keep them playing, for me thats not enough. I need atleast some character/story motivation and not just the gameplay rewards to keep me going. I also can never play an arcade game like Pacman for a long time, it gets boring very quick to me. The only exceptions to that for me are games like Mario or Turtles in Time (Final Fight/Streets of Rage and so on).

@@pebble312 Because Mr. Beast popularized it, and made it into an actual thing, an actual style. It's the same thing with every style that becomes popular because someone does it well, then people start poorly copying it. Almost nothing is truly original, there's always examples of people having done something before it gets popular, but it only becomes an issue when a certain style becomes overused. Soyface thumbnails and overly animated people with exaggerated emotions are one such style. They certainly existed for a LONG time before Mr. Beast really entered the scene, but he popularized them within the genre of Mr. Beast-like videos. They all look the exact same, act the exact same, and don't have a sliver of true creativity to them, and it's an annoying trend. Before Mr. Beast it wasn't a trend, it was isolated incidents. Enjoyed the discussion on the format change of content on youtube. Nowadays most content is extremely fast-paced and intense. Even I've noticed the way long form videos have changed- specifically the cutting and editing. New creators and editors practice much more engaging, attention grabbing quick-cut content. Compare to let's say Markiplier who's style hasn't changed much; you can see how much slower it feels. I don't want to blame adhd or social media affected attention spans buuuut you can see the trend driving content a la tiktok.

Leave him alone, bruh. He used to make so little money in this videos, and KZbin basically learned what the advertisers don't want to put their money on in that era. Joji continues to make art, but at his own terms, in a healthier way. Doing TFFS wasn't heathy for him at all.

Some people call Filthy Franks Era "Edgy" which is something I never saw it as. I saw it as pure entertainment top tier youtube. Talented people actually putting effort into their channels trying to actually entertain the masses. Some of those idea's were wacky but atleast there were trying. These days it's low effort filled with people who think they're the best content creators when majority of them is just talking into a mic in every video
@Newt2799

Yeah I agree for the most part. It wasn’t so much edgy as people just allowed to be themselves. I mean most KZbinrs are afraid to even curse these days.

@@Newt2799 I guess people are not bold enough to be fine with the production. Even though we are living in age that calls for it. Felix is right by saying it’s KZbin. KZbin really made the adpocalypse way worse than it had to be. They gave way too much leverage to the advertisers that were pulling (who were going to come back anyway since it’s basically the only game in town for internet video). Also they developed features that gave the advertisers way too much control (like the ability to detect cuss words in videos and exclude ads from them)

Guys, theres always gonna be knock off channels. There were Pewdiepie clones, there were Game Grumps clones, there were Leafy clones- hell, there were Game Theory clones and still are some. Like, if you're not established in some niche, you're most likely a video essayist, a review channel, a Mr. Beast clone, or an Iceberg video channel (which have more or less overtaken top 10 channels in terms of popularity). Thats just what's popular right now. Some of those are always gonna be around (like, there were video essayists before now and there will still be some after they lose this level of popularity), but others will surely fade away at some point once the format grows stale only to come back 5-10 years later.

The Filthy Frank and "Pewdie Frank" era were glorious because some of the most original/raw content came out. Back then, you couldn't make a career of being a YTber, so the ones that truly wanted to be good at YTubing and not just make money out of it were plenty. In Felix's case, it was the time when he really seemed to want to retain the crown of being the biggest. Heck, he was relishing in it and knew he had an opportunity to become bigger. But alas, shit happens and people grow old and tired of the race. Just glad he made it out great despite the...stuff that happened between 2014 and 2018.
