Every Mario kart game has its flaws, and yeah Wii is no exception. Some examples include how long it takes for Lakitu to save you, the battle mode being so bare bones with only a handful of decent courses, and this could just be me, but the selection of retros hasn’t aged well in comparison to 8 Deluxe.

Mario Kart Wii is my favorite Mario Kart by a country mile, and I would say that objectively speaking, 8 is definitely better. Do I like it more than Wii? No. But I recognize all the things that 8 deluxe did so well, especially after the BCP. It really feels like he's grasping for arguments as to why Wii is better than 8 and trying to drag 8 down, rather than bringing up what Wii does well compared to 8.

Alright hear me out, we start with footage of Wii Moonview Highw- This video feels like a time capsule of when I liked Wii just as much as 8DX. I actually had the dumbass opinion of hating the Super Horn before I reached level 1 and realized that it was a super rare game changer and 8/10 you will get a Blue Shell to the face. I also just disagree with modding being a good talking point for comparisons. I have *nothing* against mods but when talking about 2 games I feel like we should focus on what the developers have actually put in the game personally. Though, he does have a point with tricking. The beats the seretonin of the air time I got combined with the trick sound effect in Wii.

one thing i really enjoy about MKW is a lot of the kart and bike designs, and it bugs me so many of them havent been brought back the Phantom, Wario Bike, the Spear, the Bullet Bike, the Wild Wing, the B Dasher MK2, the Flame Flyer, the Shooting Star, the Honey Coupe i know Tour brought some of these back but i still wish theyd been added to 8 or something

Peak Mario Kart game would be 8 with Wii's physics with wheelies restored to bikes, Double Dash's and DS's drift system restored to karts, a Mission Mode, 7's glider physics, and the ability to switch between the 2 item slots you would like just like in Double Dash.

It’s a major flaw because it is not a balanced mix of competitive and casual There should be both competitive and casual qualities to MKWii, but it manages to be extremely skill based and extremely luck based The game can’t be competitive because the item and track selection is largely luck based, but it can’t be casual either because there’s too many ways to get ahead with pure driving skill alone My point is that the game can’t decide which it wants to be. Instead of a fair balance, it’s too luck based while somehow also being too skill based

Mario kart Wii's gameplay is simply better. MK8 DX didn't change anything. What, purple mini turbos? Mario kart Wii's gameplay pushes you to get better and rewards you. I love MKWii but part of me feels like my non-nostalgia opinions have more to do with the insane modding scene and custom tracks than anything (they've gotten a lot better in more recent years and we're long past the days of Mushroom Peaks no matter how much some people still like that godforsaken boomer CT). And Mario Kart 7 + 8DX are both quite good on that front, too.

Things that bothers me about this video... 1) I get that Sky Hakym didn't have the best microphone when he made that video, but he could had at least give us a headphone warning. Those poor people's ears... 2) He says that anti-gravity is lame because it dosen't change the gameplay...yet, he mentions that you can get an extra boost. In other words: he contradicted himself... 3) Mario Kart DS removed the shortcut in Yoshi Circuit first, not 8. Also, "Oh no, you can't drive to Peach's Castle anymore in Royal Raceway" Why is that a big deal, folks? You couldn't enter to the castle anyway. 4) I love how people say that bikes are superior in Wii yet they only use the same 2 (Flame Runner/Bowser Bike and Mach Bike). Also, ATVs are underrated. I largely prefer Wii for a number of reasons - The physics feel great (especially when flinging other racers). The physics feel cartoonishly appropriate for the Mario universe, and gives the game a BMX feel, which is likely what they were going for with the introduction of bikes - Great Kart and Bike designs, including the iconic Wario Bike - Outside Drift, Inside Drift, and Karts all feel fun and distinct to play on their own merits. With 8 this is definitely subdued into a more homogenous experience - The items are far more powerful, and due to being rank based rather than distance based means that the player has far more control of what they're getting, making strategic play pay off - ONLINE Multiplayer: when comparing Wii to 8, you have MKWII which was free, and then 8 which was free, 8 Deluxe which was free at first before becoming paid and then Booster Course Pass era of 8 which has always been paid. Just some of my thoughts as a more casual player.
