The Final Build: Week 12

This week we are continuing progress on our build finishing up the steering rack and front subframe, as well as looking at the engine and getting it ready for a bit of paint and the final Timing belt assembly.

"...I was a dumb..." bro same. 😔 I lifted my car by the radiator support a while back because someone said it would be fine. Now I'll have to use a BFH to bend it back into shape. 😑 Everything is looking great. I'm excited to see it come together.

I never had good luck with those plastic cam gear tools, ended up taking a board, two long bolts and some bits of pvc that fit inside of the holes of the gears, works 10x better than any rental tool

Hey man I got another question… took both of my heads off(engine at tdc) but rotated the cam gears to clean off the top of the valves, can I just rotate both cam gears to tdc marks and put it back on the block ready to go? Idk because I heard you say 1:2 ratio of crank to cams. What to you suggest? Thanks

Yeah you can turn them to TDC on the bench and then reinstall. As long as the marks are close to where they need to be you won't have any interference issues while putting it back together

Where are you buying parts for yours? Im doing a similar project on my z31

Most engine parts can be found on rockauto. That's usually my go to because they have good prices and a wide range of manufacturers to choose from

@@TheZGarage any suggestions for rubber mouldings and weatherstripping? Also, my VG needs new hoses everywhere…. Rock auto?

You'll have to find weatherstripping used, no one makes it new. And yes rockauto for hoses
