They were supposed to be five films and I believe that it was supposed to touch more on who credence is as a character before he dies. It really is a tragedy that for the time being there are no plans to continue the franchise 😢

Ariana became an Obscurial because of an incident where she was young and barely expressed her magic in her garden or something and there were group of boys witnessed it then asked her to do it again but because she barely learn to do it she didn’t succeed the second time and the boys hurt her or something. Since then, she never express her magic again

You've read Chamber of Secrets so I only have two words about whether you can take someone's memories against their will: Gilderoy Lockhart. There was speculation that the next movies were going to focus more on young Voldemort but they probably aren't going to be made. They kind of rushed a conclusion and turned Dumbledore into even more of a Mary Sue than he already was. I kind of wish they got around to explaining what the deal was with Nagini and Voldemort

You will find out about Dumbledore's sister more in the books. They are talking about the position of Supreme Mugwump.... which is a thing. Dumbledore holds this position during the Harry Potter series.... its in his titles in Harry's Hogwarts letter. Also, I agree. I want this story to be finished. I want to see the big duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, and how Newt fits in. If WB decides not to finish the last 2 movies. I hope JK writes the last 2 installments. Because I NEED TO KNOW!!!! lol... Nice reaction Veggie, I enjoyed watching 😊 Editing in to say I think I made a mistake. It's not the Supreme Mugwump position they are deciding, it's the leader if the International Confederation of Wizards, which is still a thing. Again, the only time you see this is in Harry's letter in Book 1. It says: HeadMaster; Albus Dumbledore ( Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards) 😊
@PhilBagels
@PhilBagels Жыл бұрын
Does the Supreme Mugwump have no power? Is he replaced by someone else prior to Fudge trying to send him to Azkaban? Supposedly, it's a very significant thing to have a qilin bow to you, but somehow, no one remembers that one bowed to Dumbledore? It's as if the Fantastic Beasts series doesn't even take place in the same universe as the Harry Potter series. So many ridiculous inconsistencies, that could have easily been avoided.
@lxena8033
@lxena8033 Жыл бұрын
Or maybe it takes place 50+ years before... I don't know, it's almost as if things progress throughout the years. Also, someone like Fudge wouldn't have cared about quilin bowing to Dumbledore 50 years previous. The ceremony where the quilin picks was an ancient tradition. It's something they had stopped doing, in favour of elections. But it's clear in the FB movie that the German Minister of Magic fought to restore this by saying that it would be a good way to make the selection seem unbiased by returning to tradition, when really trying to help Grindelwald seem legit, because he wouldn't have gotten the votes. I'm pretty sure that would've been the last time a quilin was used for that purpose. Seeing as a skilled dark wizard could corrupt and bewitch a quilin, would have made it unreliable in any future elections.

Veggie thank you for your reaction! I was excited by the announcement of new HP content by JKR, even if it was in movie format (details of Dumbledore and Grindewald's legendary duel, plans for five movies!). The debut came out promising, I generally enjoyed the movie (especially characters). But unfortunately, the sequel was received much cooler. Seems as if the failure of the sequel forced an adjustment in the original plans for the franchise and for the threequel. Scandals and COVID-19 also had an impact. Due to the pandemic, filming was delayed several times. Therefore, Claudia Kim (Nagini) was unable to participate in the filming. The scheduled filming in Brazil and Portugal was also canceled. It is known for sure that the script was rewritten. It is stated in the credits of the movie (Screenplay by J.K. Rowling & Steve Kloves. Based upon a screenplay by J.K. Rowling). And yet, there are still deleted scenes. As a Harry Potter enthusiast, I don't care so much about the quality of the cinematography, pacing, timing, etc., but more about new details, adherence to canon, and following the in-universe rules. Some ideas and decisions in the threequel frustrated me. For example, "dream sequences" in a cafe and in Bhutan (director's idea), "a mirror world" in Berlin (special effects team's idea) are visually impressive scenes, but we don't hear more about such manifestations of magic in the future (HP series). The threequel grossed even less at the box office than the sequel, and at this point, I have big doubts about whether the story will be finished. And if so, will it be the original story. I can only hope that someday JKR will release a proper novelization.

Great to see your reaction to this! I felt that this film was better than FB2, but still very muddy. I do hope we get more of this story in some form some day, but I will really miss these actors; they all shone in their roles here. My reading of the wedding scene taking place in the back of the Bakery with only the closest friends present is that this is a "secret marriage" due to the legal restrictions still being in place. I could be wrong, but the tone of the entire situation feels this way to me.

I will die on this hill, but the fantastic beats series should have been called Crimes Of Grindelwald. The story of his rise to power is very interesting but calling it fantastic beasts, and the main story being nothing to do with beasts makes no sense.
@robertbrookes2000

Looking back at your previous reactions I gave some pretty extensive thoughts about the films, so I might as well for this one too. You've been warned. Oh boy was this one even more of a mixed bag than 2. Again some solid performances, Eddie Redmayne, Dan Fogler, Jessica Williams (Eulalie Hicks) and Jude Law were all on top form in this. And credit to Mads Mikkelsen taking on the role of Grindelwald who was pretty decent considering how all over the place the character was written. The big problem as you noticed was the absence of characters: Nagini and Abernathy were rather noticeable, especially when the latter was supposed to be almost a right hand man to Grindelwald. Also all the missing beasts, which makes this film feel almost separate from the series. And then there's Tina. Who I'm pretty sure had a reduced role because actress Katherine Waterston was being highly supportive of the trans community, which meant Rowling seemingly tried to whittle her role down massively. Of course I don't know if that's 100% accurate, but whatever reason it does hamper the story quite a bit. I'm just glad we at least got the reunion of Newt & Tina at the end which just about gives some satisfaction. As for the plot, I think it's rather messy. Like with 2 it tries introducing a few too many new characters and spins this whole political drama in which doesn't have any of the charm of the original film which was about the beasts. I will give credit, I'm glad the film fully came out (pun unintended) and started with Dumbledore and Grindelwald explicitly saying that they loved each other. 2 was a little subtle about it, but I'm glad they just made it clear in this film. The whole Credence/Aurelius arc was all over the place. I don't think it was wise to have him be a secret child of Aberforth or be connected to the Dumbledore's to begin with. I did like some of the Corvus Lestrange drama in 2, but this pay off was just not for me. Eulalie is a fun new character, but it definitely felt like she was included simply because 1. Tina was essentially written out and 2. Leta LeStrange was dead, so we needed a new witch to fill the void. I think if the film had managed to bring back some of the magical leaders of foreign countries from the first film like Gemma Chan and Martin Oelbermann, or had set up the idea of a new supreme magical leader race from the first or second film, it's plotline in this film might've made more sense. But as it is, it's just a bit out of nowhere. We don't know these other candidates so we can't be that interested. At least the film had the sense to have the Qilin (chi-llin) creature be integral to that. It's strange really, I assumed it was made up by Rowling, but it's a pre-existing creature from Chinese and other Asian countries mythology. I thought it strange how they introduced it for this film as being a pure soul and an excellent judge of a person, when that's a lot like the pure unicorns from the main series. Anyway, at least this film managed to wrap up at least one plotline, that of Jacob and Queenie. They just about scrap together a complete arc for them and let them be happily married by the end. Everything else? Errr, bit all over the place. One last nitpick I'll say is, I don't why Bunty gets a German Muggle to replicate a suitcase 6 times when there are literally duplication spells in the wizarding world. I do like the fun references with the traps in the climax, but it's still stupid how they went about it. Wow that really was long. Maybe I need to start making videos on this sort of thing.

I really love watching your analysis and reaction to these movies. I've discovered your channel right when you uploaded Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (and I've been on this train since then. I've also watched other movie reactions you've done on the channel and I really enjoyed them. Very heartfelt open-minded to possibilities. I don't know if you take suggestion, but if you're interested, could you do a reaction of the Netflix series, Julie and the Phantoms? It's rather short, one season with nine episodes, if you want to do something simple and nice. The characters are really endearing, and the songs are catchy (there's a bit of different vibe to each song, not all of them are of the same genre necessarily), and they touch on a few topics like grief, friendship, the soul, connection, music. I think you could like (unless you have already watched it in private, that is)

I am a HP fan from the very beginning. Even had the chance to start reading the books in middle school and grew with the characters so I was afraid of how this franchise was going to work, but I loved it. I believe they are great movies, maybe the lore could have been explained better for people who have not read HP, but overall I believe the 3 movies are great. I hope the series get continued, politics and all, I love the sociocultural aspects of these movies.

@gillyS0L3

@KaiLucasZachary I can explain why, in my opinion, they are great movies. I am not a movie critic, just a regular person, but the normal people are the ones that pay or not for the books and movies so 🤷. I will not focus on budget or effects because I enjoy everything, from animation to dated cgi, big budget action sequences, sci-fi, fantasy, etc. There's no discrimination in cinematography for me. But I do have opinions about stories. To me, HP and FB have a particular set of characteristics that made them great. First, character development is a must for me. Camaraderie/an ensemble character driven narrative is also important. Relationship building as part of the plot in some way or another is interesting to me [that sociocultural aspect I mentioned is part of this]. A plot that is somewhat complex and requires for you to wait for the development in other movies/books is engaging to me. I grew up with magical realism, but I was not aware of the big fantasy writers in the UK. To me, the HP world was new, and FB is a continuation. Equally accesible to someone who is not too into traditional fantasy writing [English is not my first language]. In addition, the inclusion of "real world problems" in a fantasy world is something I like, but for example, I am not a fan of post apocalyptic plots, so I need to have a sliver [edit] of hope in the drama. Finally, the inclusion of female characters that are dimensional is a must. There are many more things I can think about, but a point that I have to address as something that made a story great is heart. HP and FB have heart. I am mostly used to manga and anime, and the stories I love the most in that medium are the ones that have profound takes in some form of emotional expression.

*Book Spoiler Alert* . . . . . . . . . . The books explain that Ariana was using magic at a young age, and 3 Muggle boys saw and attacked her. Arianna's father attacked the boys and that's why he was sent to prison. After that incident Arianna would suppress her magic, which would make her go into violent fits. That's how she got killed during Dumbledore and Grindlewald's argument, she got in the crossfire. The book never came out and said she was an obscurial, but i think many of guessed she was when we watched the first FB movie, as its definition fit her perfectly. That they never went into her backstory on the HP movies, always made me wonder if they already planned to make more wizarding world movies.

Personally, for me, I didn't like the ending. First of all, Bunty SHOULD have been Tina in disguise with Poly Juice potion all along; there's NO WAY Newt would trust ANYBODY (not even Bunty) with his case (& his creatures), other than Tina (and maybe Jacob, too)!! I'm sorry, but there's NO WAY!! Secondly, there's also NO WAY that the Qilin (the deer-like creature; that IS how you spell it, look it up) would choose Dumbledore!! Dumbledore is NOT so "pure of heart"--not yet @ least. He's too manipulative--both to Newt, but also to Harry later on, if you really think about it . . . It SHOULD have bowed to Newt or/and to Jacob. That's where I really felt like the movie was headed anyway. (To me, it felt like, since they decided late that this was gonna be the last movie, they switched it up too last minute or something . . . ) Also, how COOL would it have been to have a wizard AND a MUGGLE in charge?!?! What would that have meant for the whole Wizarding (& Muggle) Worlds?! ESPECIALLY with WW2 happening later on?! It would have made a FAR MORE interesting ending, that's for sure--well, in my opinion!! 😉 And lastly, the whole ending just felt too rushed & too neat, in my opinion, too. This could point to my earlier point of "they knew this was the last movie", so they felt like they had to wrap it up nicely or something. Also, Nagini doesn't even get a mention?? What?? I know the actress didn't want to film during the pandemic & everything b/c she was pregnant at the time & felt like it was too much of a risk for her (& her baby); whatever, gotta watch out for your health (& for your unborn child), good for her for making that decision about her (& her baby's) health & wellbeing (I SINCERELY hope they're both doing well now, btw. 😊👩🏻‍🍼), but still . . . NOT EVEN A MENTION in the movie?!?! Like WHAT?!?! C'MON!! 🤨 (Sorry, I feel SUPER strongly about the ending to this movie (& about Nagini), as you can probably tell . . . 😅 I actually like the end to 'Crimes of Grindelwald' MUCH better than the ending to this movie (as you can probably tell 😅)!!

The third movie really failed hard, I was so disappointed when I saw it in theatres. I gave this movie a 3/10...The story was crap and was horribly written, lots of stuff made no sense. Depp being kicked out really made a big dent, nothing against Mad's, but Depp as Grindlewald was just so good. The only thing that was good in this movie was Newt, he is still the best character of Fantastic Beasts.

My THEORY.....is that the Obscurus jumped from Dumbledore's sister eventually (after several young short-lived hosts) to Credence. When Credence dies, it will jump over to Tom Marvolo Riddle, who finally masters and absorbs it. Nagini had an attraction to Credence, and as a result will again be attracted to Voldemort because of the Obscurus. I really think the chronology for this works since Voldy would have been a teen soon after this movie. Harry Potter may have given it the coup de grace.
