From my point of view this movie was kinda boring (although NOT saying the worst!). Honestly if they put parallel scenes from it would be million times more interesting for me. For example the line "always" kinda ment something in HP movies but now its like you want to see the corelation.
@tigeryt637

@@ondrejbednar5853 Good movie but contradicts A LOT of what was established in the og HP series. These are the two main questions IMO: 1. Why is the Supreme Mugwamp post so important in this series? In HP 5 (book) it was established that Dumbledore lost his position as Supreme Mugwamp after the whole Voldemort is Back situation. It was very that the post wasnt of any importance at all. If it was, how can the 'leader' of the wizarding community be threatened by someone like Doleres (a British Ministry staff) or even be a skl teacher? Why would? What even did Dumbledore as the Supreme Mugwamp? In this movie, the Supreme Mugwamp was portrayed as a celeb but how come Dumbledore wasn't portrayed in the same manner at all (when be was Supreme Mugwamp). Anw, the point is, it wasnt important then, how is it important now? 2. The whole mirror dimension in the Credence fight.. and also the fight with Grindelwald (if the mirror dimensioms were the same). If these sorta different dimensions where nobody sees the duels exist, it completely changes the whole combat aspect of duels in the wizarding world. For the Fantastic Beasts series and in terms of cinematics, the movie was great but as a Potterhead, probably not. Would be great MovieFlame or Rowling herself can answer some of these questions in the future. Would rly love to hear what you potterheads think as well.

It was so weird we didn’t see thesus grieve about leta at all. All the human and relatable emotions were barely explored. What I loved about the Hp books is that yes it’s a magical world but it focuses on human things we all experience. Family loss, bullying and friendship. Here they had those themes but they were no where near explored

I think that might be because of the time gap. The second movie took place in 1927, and according to the synopsis, this one took place in 1932. Theseus did grieve, just not on-screen. (That being said, a flashback would've been nice.)

Things I didn’t like: 1) Tina getting sidelined 2) The revelation of Credence/Aurelius being Aberforth’s son happening in casual conversation 3) Confirmation of Ariana being an obscurial in the same casual conversation 4) Breaking the blood pact so easily, almost accidentally 5) The chilling bowing to Dumbledore didn’t make sense, Dumbledore himself has admitted his fatal mistakes and flaws. Bowing to Newt, or even Jacob, would’ve been more suitable 6) Yusuf Kama is kinda just there. Actually, without Leta Lestrange I don’t think he has much to add to the plot.

Agreed. I also don't really like how Dumbledore talk abt love with Grindelwald. It was too plain and given their complicated relationship, I was expecting something more delicate and elaborate. Also, it is unlike Dumbledore to speak of something such as love in such plain language. Likewise, impt details such credence being Aberforth son being told through dialogue and exposition could definitely have been done better with the screenwriting.

Agree with all your points except 4. The Blood pact was extremely hard for Dumbledore to break as evidenced by his attempts to defy it. It only started cracking or the magic unraveling when both of their intents collided magically in spells used for/against Credence. It’s because Dumbledore has finally sided with family over his only lover. He has the full intent to stop Grindelwald and has overcome his past. The past will continue to haunt him but like he said it’s fate because he’s committed to a sense of duty and greater love for other wizards and muggles. The reason the qillin bows to him despite his flaws and past mistakes is because this is an Albus Dumbledore who has cast aside ego in favor of helping others. This is the same Dumbledore who gives his life later to save Draco and works with Snape and others to stop Voldemort through one thing Tom never had - selfless love.

My theory is that the fourth movie will be the Halfbloodprince of this franchise. Meaning we will learn more about Grindelwalds past, his rise to a leader, his past with Dumbledore and his time in Durmstrang. And as a secondary plotline we could perhaps witness the first opening of the Chamber of Secrets and a young Tom Riddle making contacts in Hogwarts and planning to become a wizarding leader like Grindelwald. And maybe we will see the early affects of World War Two on the Wizarding World.

Throughout this movie Albus and Aberforth seem pretty close, which is a far-cry from their relationship decades later when they weren't even on speaking terms. In fact it seems like at this point Albus regularly goes to see Aberforth at his home and at the Hog's Head, despite the fact that we are lead to believe he still holds a grudge over Albus for what happened to Arianna. My guess is what will actually strain Albus's relationship with Aberforth has something to do with Credence. Now that Aberforth has his son back, he will undoubtedly want to do everything he can to save his life and to protect him. So my theory is that in the next movie, Gellert has some way to save Credence from dying from the obscurial. He offer Albus to cure Credence if he agrees to join his side. Albus of course refuses, but Aberforth desperate to save his son pleads with Albus to reconsider, and while Albus maybe tempted, he ultimately cannot bring himself to become compromised. So instead Credence dies, and a grief stricken Alberforth goes back to hating his older brother and holding him responsible for everyone they love meeting a tragic end, thus the Dumbledore brothers relationship becomes strained and remains that way for decades.

They swore an oath not to fight each other. But when they casted their spells to kill and the other to protect, the pact crumbled because the two spells that collided were from the one's who made the pact. Both of them launched an attack at each other without directly knowing it. And so, both violated their non aggression oath, and the blood pact becoming irrelevant.

While this ending was alright, I would've actually preferred it if Grindelwald had won this time round, remaining as Supreme Mugwump, but having Newt's speech about the dead Qilin cause the general population to doubt Grindelwald's legitimacy, whilst also having Dumbledore's followers doubt his ability to defeat Grindelwald. The idea of having doubtful and disloyal followers on both sides could've made for an interesting topic to cover in the next movie, but alas, it was never meant to be...

Regardless of who the Qillin chose, they need to explain why the Supreme Mugump post is so important all of a sudden as well. In the book (HP 5), they mentioned that Dumbledore was the Supreme Mugwump untill he lost the post after the Voldemort is Back situation. But didnt rly mention anything Dumbledore did as the Supreme Mugwump. In fact, it wasn't even portrayed as of much importance at all. How come Dumbledore had no control over the Doleres situation as a Supreme Mugwump for example. Or how would Fudge even think that the Supreme Mugwomp would want to steal his position as the Minister of Magic which is far inferior to the Supreme Mugwump. If Dumbledore was the most powerful (by rank as the Supreme Mugwump) in the world, how come he had to obey all sorts of commands by the Ministry of Magic UK and werent even like a celebrity like Supreme Mugwumps are portrayed in this movie (FB 3). This rly need to be explained.

I understand you guys but it wasn't even mentioned other than that incident in the book for HP5. Not even once in the movies at all. Especially if it is such an honor in the wizarding world, for a position with so much power and publicity, it really doesnt make sense that nobody even mentioned him as such. I know they had to modify the plot and twist and turn their stories for the FB series but come on. If my professor was the Supreme Mugwump, I think I would at least call him by that title or at least mention about it/hear others mention about it more than once over a decade. Even on the Chocolate frog cards or the Daily Prophet article on Dumbledore did not mention about him being/having been the Supreme Mugwump once.

I want to say that Madd Mikkelson did a wonderful job playing the role of Grindelwald. Now with that out of the way, by the way the movie started with both Grindelwald and Dumbledore you can foresee that it would end with them both. That dimension scene was a moment for them to reflect on who they are now versus when they were young. This was Dumbledore way of letting it go based on what Newt said to him earlier before the duel. I honestly feel that no matter what they still love each. It was unfortunate that it took till the end of the movie for Dumbledore to get over Grindelwald.

What the we need to worry about more is people refusing to go and see #FantasticBeastsTheSecretsOfDumbledore all because of her comments; I’d highly encourage and recommend everyone [please Encourage as many other people as you can as well please :-) See it as many times as they can in theaters, and even If possible,buy a ticket for it In place of going to see another movie so that way it still gets money without you actually having to see it multiple times. Buying as many merchandise directly related to it as possible will also truly help. Also remember that if you’re refusing to see it because of #JohnnyDeppIsMyGrindelwald Then please remember that this movie needs to do well so as to give Johnny the chance to actually come back in the Later movies, For the actor who played MacNair The executioner was re-casted for prisoner of Azkaban and then came back for order of the Phoenix. The bottom line is that if #FantasticBeastsTheSecretsOfDumbledore Doesn’t do well, And they don’t make the remaining two movies,then Johnny definitely will never be back as Grindelwald!Plus you also have to remember that it’s about to be a new company with new people over seeing it, So as such you were technically not paying that company and are actually giving more of a chance than not having him actually return. Especially depending on what may happen with the results of his trial that’s going to be happening shortly after the movie comes out, the new people taking over Warner Bros. right before it comes out…… Also remember in regards to her that she doesn’t necessarily get a whole lot of money from this, as well the fact remains that as many people have pointed out that she already has so much money that not supporting the series will not really change any kind of “power“ that you may have against her, and after all the series should not suffer at all because of her for Regardless of what you may think, nothing I repeat nothing will ever ever truly take away what a series overall truly means to you let alone other people, And again it’s not The series that’s the problem at all in any kind of way :-) Also keep in mind that even though it’s not the best example they have at least one transgender person or someone who identifies themselves as “They” in the cast so much for her transphobia……

On one hand, he is pure of heart and possibly the right leader, on the other hand, he is a muggle. Would have turned the two sides into extremes and given grindlewald an even larger base of supporters.

Become a leader and grow a spine, but meanwhile, his ineptness stemming from his unknowning of the wizarding world could be great in not only making him doubt himself, which would serve as a backdrop to great character development, but also, a more or less failed Kowalski Cabinet could even further divide the Wizarding world, even turning Grindlewalds most moderate followers into extremist. But that's just wishful thinking, lol.

@@karlalee1245 An exact answer to this question I think only JK himself will know, but I can speculate Especially the last scenes of the movie portray Albus as a man broken in love Grindelwald has clearly hurt him more with his words than a clear separation would have been, you can see that also shortly after, when he doesn't go to his brother and his nephew to help, but he averts the help-seeking gaze of Aberforth So he also keeps away from the other guests, because he is distanced, because he wants to distance himself from love and maybe that will be the problem for the fourth movie as well It also doesn't seem to me quite in keeping with the character of Albus from the later years, but perhaps he still needs to rediscover that to complete his character arc, towards the Dumbledore of the Harry Potter books

On one level of identifying an abuser, of course Grindelwald checks off some major marks, the most obvious being he says whatever people want to hear to gain their trust. That said, I particularly found it triggering when he asked Dumbledore, "who will love you now??" which is a common tactic they use. It's like a personal attack/insult as a last resort to keep their "victim" down and "in their place" to sum it up. When a manipulative person loses their power, watch them spiral with weak jabs. Happens all the time.

There are all kinds of love. Grindelwald was just trying to keep control over Dumbledore by triggering a common human fear of being alone.
@AidanK_ART
@AidanK_ART 2 жыл бұрын
It seemed to me that it was rather not "Who will love you now?" but "Who will love me now?". He projected his feelings, his fear of losing the one and only person who truly loves him, onto Dumbledore. Breaking the blood pact meant for both of them that they were no longer bound by anything. And obviously, for Grindelwald, this is something that hurts him. Jeez, he didn't even really try to kill Dumbledore, they used mostly Expeliarmus and Stupefy. And their last spells, which they directed at each other when they touched each other's hearts, were the harmless Expeliarmus. When Dumbledore turned away from him, leaving him again, he felt resentment, pain, fear that no one else would love him, that he would be all alone. If it was Johnny Depp's Grindelwald, I'd say that it was definitely manipulation. But Mads' Grindelwald seems capable of love, and in his words to Dumbledore I did not hear mockery

CORRECTION at 3:36. Dumbledore didn't reply that he was all alone. It was Grindelwald who said that line following his initial question, "Who will love you now, Dumbledore?" This is important because Dumbledore would rather choose to be alone than join forces with a murderer just to have a boyfriend. Dumbledore has solid morals, and this is why the Qilin bowed to him.

Agreed, although I think you significantly reduce the importance of their love. It wasn't just about "having a boyfriend." Dumbledore loved Grindelwald, maybe even till that moment. But he decided to put aside his personal feelings for the greater good. Ultimately, he achieved the goal that he had set for himself in his teens, just in a different way than Grindelwald wanted to.

One of the things that I noticed in this movie is that they're in Germany when they're talking about the whole International Confederation of Wizards election. @@thebegleyshow3320 It’s honestly interesting when you think about it. Especially in history with Germany being the Weimar Republic and had to suffered a weak government and a lot of elections were called and government changes almost happening every few years with a new Chancellor up until 1933 when Hitler was appointed with him manipulating his supporters as being a great elegant speaker by his supporters winning his party seats and a majority. Which was what we basically saw in this movie with them having an election for the International Confederation of Wizards. And saw Grindelwald be more manipulative to his supporters, and gaining new ones which we saw in a few scenes with the rallies. And as well saw Anton Vogel brushing off any warnings of him growing to power, and believing he couldn’t win and literally allowing Grindelwald off of all charges for his crimes. Which was similar to basically Von Hindenburg and other government officials in the Reichstag brushing off warnings and just thinking they can use him by keeping him in a weaker position of power with him being chancellor which we all know would backfired. Again kind of interesting on how closely this resembles Germany in the early 1930’s which the third film is set in, and honestly what would be happening if the fourth film mentions those events as we are leading up to World War II and the final battle with Dumbledore and Grindelwald at the end of the war in 1945 which would be obviously happening fifth and final film. If the movie series goes by what is on Pottermore then the earliest we would see any sign of Voldemort at Hogwarts is in the following movies (if there are any.) We KNOW Tom Riddle didn't start Hogwarts until 1938 and that he graduated in the beginning of 1945. Secrets of Dumbledore takes place in 1932-1933 meaning that Voldemort wasn't at Hogwarts at this time. However considering they have McGonagall teaching at Hogwarts before she was even born (she started teaching supposedly in 1956 when she was /21 yrs old/) according to Pottermore? For all we know one of the little Slytherin boys who gave Jacob cockroach clusters was supposed to be the then Tom Riddle. Before anyone says "It could be her ancestor though!" In regards to the McGonagall bit. First off in Secrets of Dumbledore he talks to her at the door of the Hog's Head and CALLS HER MINERVA. Secondly she is a half blood who's father is a MUGGLE. Thus, before her mother (by marriage) and her siblings there were no McGonagalls in the wizarding world! Also her mother was named Isobel NOT Minerva and didn't tell Minerva's father about being a witch until AFTER Minerva was born. She was of course born in 1935 which is 2-3 years AFTER the events of this Secrets of Dumbledore!) She is purely fan service. Which means they could make Tom Riddle start school just a few years earlier for pure fan service too if they wanted.

I cannot wait to see the big duel between Albus and Gellet. It was mentioned in the Harry Potter books and was known as the greatest duel of all time. Harry and Voldemorts final duel is not overly great to watch since Voldemort lost his horcruxes so he was weakened. They basically just pointed their wands at each other and that was it. I am hoping the one between Albus and Gellert is more like Albus' and Voldemort's duel in the fifth movie ( order of the Phoenix) with different CGI spells like the dragon or large ball instead of two single streams just pointed at each other.

I'm seeing FB3 2nite. What I'm looking forward to more than most is conversations concerning the events from FB2: the Scamander Bros talk about Letas last moments, Newt n Jacob speaking to Hicks about their perspective Goldsteins. All n all, looking forward to this movie.

Over all i enjoyed it, it explained alot.. im wondering what come next for the next movie?! Are the characters gonna be part of the next plot to come… all we know dumbledore mission is to stop gellert, and gellert is obviously gonna lose alot of his followers due to the fact he failed to become the leader of the wizard world

SPOILER WARNING: The problems I had with this movie was it sort of broke rules set up by the previous films. Why would Creedance need to be hidden if he wasn't half muggle and if his mother was muggle wouldn't he share Albus's views at the time? Another thing I don't like is how the "Give Jacob a Wand" thing was never fully explained and they did this for what? Now they contradict everything about muggles and magic just to say that Jacob's wand is "quite rare" so there wont be too much of an issue (it reminds me of a Harry Potter story I wrote when I was 7) For the one or two scenes he actually uses it in? I feel like the "internal" duals sort of don't give any real world consequences which sucks. Theisis or Newt despite being torn apart with pain after losing Leta in the last movie do not mention her once, no... NOT ONCE. Grindelwald later obliviates her brother's memory to take Zoe Kravitz out of the universe pretty much entirely (even more of an acting carousel). I also had a problem with how Hogwarts looked in the film, everything looked so CGI'd compared to what we are used to. Speaking of an acting carousel Tina's character is never explained why she isn't there besides "she's busy" I thought they would at least make Tina have taken polyjuice potion and be Bunty but it brought me out of it solely because I knew it had to be due to actor schedluing conflicts or some real world problems which on top of the many actors that they've already had problems like this hapopen to it seems like they've gotten another. This movie was better than Crimes of Grindelwald and my favorite Fantastic Beasts movie for the cinematics and what they actually showed of the wizarding world this movie it just seems like this series was "hijacked" by Dumbledore and this Grindelwald subplot. I think J.K. in the writers didn't know what to do with a sole Newt storyline for a trilogy and had to throw these guys in. Stil worth a good watch for any potter fan just don't get your hopes too high. If you go in wanting to watch possibly the best film in the Fantastic Beasts trilogy than your expectations are right on the money but if you are going into it with the expectations of the original franchise prepare to be dissapointed. Give the muggle a wand so he can use it in one scene where he doesn't actually use it but Lanny (who is a great character add on, loved her in this film) is doing all of the work anyway... you can tell this movie suffered from the amount of rewrites they did on the script. It was leaked there was supposed to be a young Ariana Dumbledore flashback that we were completely robbed of. They need new writers going forward, besides Hogwarts castle (the damn best part) the cinematography was PERFECT in this movie, the cinematograohy in this movie rivals any Harry Potter movie made but cinemtaography & great actors alone cannot help bad writing, a MESS of canon plot holes and the real life actor conflicts with this movie. Was it a good Fantastic Beasts movie? Yes (minus the horrid rewrites) Was it a good Harry Potter/Wizarding World movie? Hell no

That pretty much sums up my opinion. However, it does make sense that Jacob never actually uses his wand because at the end of the day he’s still a muggle, and a wand just channels the magic you already have. Jacob, apart from being the sweetest guy ever, doesn’t have a drop of magical blood in him.

@@awsomeness8664 I agree with what you are saying! I guess the point I’d ask is if it was for maybe 1 spell? (I watched it yesterday so he may have used it twice but I believe it was once) why even give him the wand? The rewrite I feel screwed this movie over but I liked the visuals this movie had.

So in terms of giving Jacob a wand, it was all apart of the counter sight. It was set to confuse Grindewald since he was seeing into the future. Everything was confusing but it was meant to be. The wand itself had no real value, since it had no core.

It was such a beautiful movie! When Aurelius/Credence asks his father whether he ever thought of him, I intuitively thought he would say, "Always " And when Aberforth did say just that, I was beside myself with joy! One little word, but J.K. Rowling invested it with so much weight!

Is Dumbledore who replies "I am all alone"? I've seen the movie twice already, in Spanish, and I feel sure that at least in the Spanish dub is Gellert the one who says "Who would love you know Dumbledore? You're all alone"...

In English, the line is the same as in Spanish. Grindelwald says it to manipulate and mock Dumbledore.

Considering the film feels like a solid ending for the Fantastic Beasts characters (Dumbledore can fight Grindlewald now so doesn't need them as much, and they seem pretty happy at the end), I feel this is the perfect time to do what they should have done from the beginning: Rename the next film to ALBUS DUMBLEDORE and the something something something. I feel Dumbledore's story is the main crutch of the story and the most compelling part of these past two films. The Fantastic Beasts aspect felt forced past the first one. So now, with it ending on a shot of Dumbledore, and the pact is broken, JUST MAKE THE FOURTH FILM HIS FILM! That's my opinion ofc. Fantastic Beasts characters can cameo, but Dumbledore's story is what we wanna see.

In “Deathly Hallows” it was heavily implied, that Grindelwald surrendered to Dumbledore and they never actually dueled. Meaning, it was probably a rumor spread by Newt, to cover up what really happened.

Spoiler Free Review - I have been a long time Harry Potter fan..💯 And as recently I have completed the book series, I fell in love with this to franchise even more, with that being said.. This 3rd installment of the Harry Potter spin off Prequel series Fantastic Beasts The Secrets Of Dumbledore was just a blast.. 💎💎It brought back the magic that made our hearts jump and it has all those nostalgia that true Potterheads recognize.. It's Truely an amazing piece of art and I definitely highly recommend all Potterheads to go to the theater and experience it there! ✅⚡ This movie deserves to hit Every actor did an amazing job and they worked hard for this film! Kindly respect that as well ✨ PS - Make sure to re-watch the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts 1 and 2 and learn the background of Dumbledore's story to understand this movie in a better way! #SecretsOfDumbledore #wizardingworld #wizard #wizardingworldofharrypotter

Agreed secrets of dumbledore is awesome and has unpacked alot of the questions and mysteries. I guess the unfortunate thing got to do really with covid and recast and stuff that happened outside the movie which affected the movie. The first fantastic beast was fine as an intro, the last one was kinda of avg. It could be so much better if the time between movies were not so long and movie goers can then connect the things better.
