The plane was flying at low altitude due to malfunctioning heaters, which meant Star Tiger was burning through fuel faster than what the pilots had calculated for. I’m thinking the most likely scenario is she ran out of fuel and was forced to ditch several hundred miles Northeast of Bermuda.

Discard the impossible, the truth remains. The Tudor was trying to establish itself as a British alternative to American transports. My guess: Star Tiger & Star Ariel were shot down by yankee fighters operating form a carrier. Yanks rescued and disposed of all debris, that´s why none was ever found. BSAA went bust, the Tudor foundered, and the London-Azores-Bermuda run was cancelled. The dirty commercial aviation war was ON in full swing!
