Why? There were two or three major renovations already. It didn't resemble the original stadium in many ways. Very little of the original structure or configuration remained. It was time to replace it.
@TheVCRTimeMachine3 жыл бұрын
@@seanwebb605 The field/location is the important part. It's where all the Yankee greats from Babe Ruth on down actually played. The actual seating area isn't what needed to be saved. They could have easily done what they did at Wrigley Field over the last five years. The only part of Wrigley Field that is still actually "original" is the steel structure of the outside of the park, the outfield wall, and steel that that supports the upper deck. All the concrete in the seating areas was removed, all the under structure such as the clubhouses was completely rebuilt. All the bleachers were torn down and rebuilt except for one section in center-field. It's almost an entirely new ballpark built on the exact same spot. There was no reason they couldn't have done that with Yankee Stadium and make the location viable for at least another 50 years. Instead, they just built a poor facsimile of the original on the next lot over, priced out the middl-class with seats that are way too expensive, and it's a spot where maybe five moments of significant Yankee history have taken place.

I sure enjoyed hearing Whitey Ford and Yogi Berra in the booth during the game talking old times. Yogi Berra was one that got away from the Cardinals. Elston Howard was another from STL. I have never visited New York and had some chances during my working years but those in my group who did travel to the New York office would sometimes go to a Yankees game, which would have been my favorite thing to do there. I still play baseball strat-o-matic with my old teams some and it seems these players live on there playing my 1927, 1950, 1961, 1962, 1964, and 1978 Yankees teams. Thanks for placing on KZbin. I’m glad that I had memories of going to the old yankee stadium. What bothers is that the necessities at the new Yankee Stadium like the new batters eye deck a bigger monument park the bigger screen and other LEDs could had easily been implemented if the Steinbrenner Family were to renovate the stadium for a 3rd time. But it had to be done I guess.
@Armando_Brown324 жыл бұрын
It’s truly sad that Steinbrenner’s greed and desire for more luxury boxes/suites is why there’s no old Yankee Stadium anymore. Just imagine if the Cubs and Red Sox tried to do the same with Wrigley or Fenway respectively.

Ironically every time the Yankees had a big farewell ('08 Stadium, '13 Mariano, '14 Jeter) they missed the playoffs and were out of the race when they had their farewell events. If they had been in the playoffs as they were accustomed to, or even in the playoff race at the time, it wouldn't have necessarily been definitive when their last appearances would be and the events would not have been as big as they ended up being (this whole game, Mariano's final walk off the mound, Jeter's walkoff hit).

@@chrisnalina1755 No it wasn’t, I know what I’m saying, because I always viewed the video and it was under renovation my best friend Nic can confirm it was under renovations because him and I are diehard Yankees fans and every website you go on they’ll tell you it was under renovation because that it a true statement that it was being renovated because they needed more space and because it was in the same spot when it first opened on April 18th 1923 and to makeover in ‘74 they never torn down that stadium and had to rebuild, and plus you’ll actually be able to tell that they kept the original facade from the original design of the old stadium to put above the black bleachers in the old stadium after renovations there’s no way they could tear it down completely and rebuild it again from scratch because they needed a stadium in The Bronx in the 1976 season and the 1977 World Series season, it may look like it was being demolished but historians will tell you it was under renovations to make it a little bit bigger and plus they didn’t have the money to build a new stadium at the time so they just renovated it and then the Yankees were able to return to the old stadium that sat there for 85 years
@chrisnalina1755 Жыл бұрын
@@irt3rdavenueel172 If you take the time to look at film of them tearing it down you will realize it was NOT a renovation. Everything was replaced, everything. I was at the original Yankee Stadium and it had absolutely nothing to do with the one they built in 1974-1975. They built that stadium on the same grounds as the one from 1923 so that is what is the same meaning on the same land.

Yogi was asked how it felt playing in this stadium and his response was, "I never played in this stadium". By the way, I was in the old historic Yankee Stadium that Mantle, Ruth, etc. all played in and it was NOT this one.

@breadandcircuses8127 No it was torn down entirely is the correct way of putting it. Meaning the original Stadium.

The new stadium is garbage. Won't ever go to another baseball game ever again.

Have loved my Yankees since '65, but I really got tired of the farewell tours & speeches & plaques, & retiring of numbers, after Jeter & Rivera & the rest retired. Then to find that some of them...including Rivera, are Trump cult-freaks....along with Paul O'Neil....was even worse. THAT stink lasts forever!!

@Sebastian Belcher If you choose too. But knowing all the seditious crap that Drumpf has done & said, particularly against oeople of color, it makes me look at Rivera in a different light.

It's so cheesy that they had people dress up as old baseball players from history and take the field during the ceremony. Ugh corny
