@@Aracore Jara has an interesting history as the first Kobliad to serve in Starfleet. She began her career in late 2360s/early 2370s (latter years of TNG - another period of great exploration age for the Federation prior to the Dominion War) and became a decorated war hero during the War. This was well reflected throughout the game seen in her curiosity to learn more about the T'kon and her leadership at the battle against the Ophelion. In all she reflects an officer who was shaped during the TNG years and reflects the positive optimism and scientific curiosity of classic 'Trek' - something that's sadly missing from the 'darker' Federation seen in 'Discovery' and much of 'Picard' (but not SNW).

It's likely that the other Tkon in the area (particularly the one with the glove-tool) were doing something to actively reinforce the automated security systems - a "hacking duel" essentially. I think it makes sense to have let Portal deal with the other Tkon at his own discretion. It's ultimately an internal matter so I think the prime directive applies here. If he decided it was a good idea to fight them, that's his choice as someone officially appointed by his government to make security decisions on behalf of his people, even if that government is long gone. If he had decided to join them then it would have made sense to fight him just like you were fighting the rest of them.

So like… how would the T’kon bioforming affect someone with Multiple Personality Disorder? Would the T’kon just be an addition? Or would it dominate the other personalities? What about a joined Trill? Good ending, and although I felt bad seeing the Starfleet folks fall in the line of duty, I think I'm going to miss Portal most of all. He was a bad-ass to the very end, and, once you gained his respect, loyal to the death... literally. Also, like others here have posted, I would very much like to see another "alternate timeline" playthrough. I wonder, if you reject Miranda right at the beginning, does Edsilar end up being the one that's taken over by the T'kon? Can you get on Portal's bad side, and, if so, how does that affect him helping you, or does he refuse to help? Enquiring minds want to know!

Some spoilers, if anyone doesn't want to know. Won't go into too much detail unless asked! But don't read the rest of this if you don't want to know anything! I watched two other playthroughs of this. Neither as good as this one, of course, cause Ric just has.. a way with this kind of thing. :) BUT, if you reject Miranda at the beginning, it has an affect on some storytelling parts but from what I can tell, not the overall huge picture. It's more just "trying to save a friend" rather than "trying to save a love interest" and her interactions with Diaz are a little different, of course. But she's still taken over by the T'kon. As for the end and what happens to Diaz.. that doesn't HAVE to happen the way it did here. Personally, I think this way is more interesting and I won't go into more detail unless you want me to, but.. something else can happen other than Diaz being taken over. I don't know about Portal 63 though! Obviously, from the way the story is told, there seem to be parts where he has to make a decision on whether or not to continue helping you. But in all of the playthroughs I've watched, that hasn't happened! There are some videos that show all outcomes that I might end up watching, but I haven't yet. They aren't "playthroughs", just a video from the game developers I believe. But it says in the video title that it shows Portal's "betrayal". So that would be interesting to see! You probably have to be a complete dick to him the whole time for that to happen.
@LGranthamsHeir Жыл бұрын
@@LadyBeyondTheWall Had Jara follow Bedrosian's advice to destroy the T'kon vault, Portal 63 would've betrayed Diaz and the rest of his away team and joined the Scions, since he was so p***ed his fellow T'kons were killed. I think Diaz or Edsillar ended up killing him as well as Miranda.

Couldn't they potentially use the same trick the Enterprise D used to save Dr. Polaski to undo the bioforming process? Find some original DNA, set up the transporter to use that as the pattern, and transport. I imagine it would be easier with some than others, but in theory it would work.
@richmcgee434 Жыл бұрын
I cannot imagine Starfleet *not* researching a "cure" for the bioforming, preferably one that uses Tkon tech to preserve the merged Tkon/host memories the way the Tkon were originally save, then resetting the physical host body's neural system to the last pre-bioforming record available Most fleet personnel would have fairly current transporter records, so you wouldn't wind up with enormous memory gaps that way. Maybe harder luck for the Alydians and...uh...whatever the other species was called. You could even make a reasonable argument that the surviving Tkon should be willing to help with all that. Just promise them a clone/geneered/bio-constructed body to get loaded back into afterward rather than leaving them in data storage forever. The Scions really were doing this the fast and stupid way, when they probably could have just bided their time and not engaged in widespread body theft. Plus they're bigited enough that they probably don't want to wear the flesh of :inferior species" for the rest of their lives.

I think the player is primed to choose the hypo instead of the weapon. Like Checkov's gun. If there's a hypo full of Deuridium that's getting talked up all through act 3, someone's getting injected with it by act 5. But it leaves me curious what would happen if Carter shot Miranda instead of injecting himself. Some of the Xbox achievements hinted that might be possible.Does Edsilar get turned somehow instead? Portal, I think dies either way. Though the achievements suggest he can turn on you if you pick different options, but I'd imagine the player kills him instead of the scions. But he's still dead, so you need a T'kon to work the final console puzzles. All in all, I liked the game. The gameplay was mid, the mechanics were jank. But it's true strength is it's story. And I'd very much like to see more stories in this timeframe. Ric's playthrough satisfied most of my curiosities for other paths, but there's still a few outstanding. Though I'm not in a lot of rush. I might play through it again some day. I don't think you can reach a failure state through narrative paths. At least I never found any. The only failure state seems to be failing a stealth minigame or a phaser fight or something like that. Toward the end, I started to pick up that the main plot was linear. Narrative choices branched you out on different paths, but all paths seem to lead to a similar conclusion.

Not like he's dead, nor anyone else who didn't physically die after the bioforming. He's still there under the dominant Tkon Scion's personality. I'd expect Starfleet would be steadily researching a way to reverse the process once the dust settles, as well as scrambling to secure all the Tkon tech they can - including whatever's on the now-unguarded planet Portal Six Three was on. Find a way to record the merged mental architecture to preserve the Tkon, then use (say) transporter records and tech to reset the body's neural system to its original baseline - probably with memory gaps for what happened post-bioforming. The Tkon might even cooperate with the research if they were promised new cloned/geneered/bio-constructed bodies to be downloaded back into instead of being reduced to raw data again for millions of years. The Scions in particular don't seem like they'd want to wear the flesh of another species forever, and there are probably some other Tkon scientists in the memory storehouse that would be okay with reviving their people in a less aggressive and parasitic fashion. Portal Six Three was a soldier, not a tech specialist, and admitted he didn't know everything about cutting-edge Tkon tech. This whole process may have been solved before the Empire fell and the jackass Scions just didn't want to take advantage of it because bodysnatching was a quicker route to what they saw as victory. I expect most of the mainstream Tkon wouldn't choose to be re-embodied anyway, going by the fact that there seems to have been a cultural bias against that kind of effective immortality. The Scions were a fringe group, and they were the only ones who really embraced the idea in the first place.
@LGranthamsHeir Жыл бұрын
@@richmcgee434 Very interesting and plausible scenario on reviving the bioformed Starfleet personnel. Just have a question about the following: "The Tkon might even cooperate with the research if they were promised new cloned/geneered/bio-constructed bodies to be downloaded back into instead of being reduced to raw data again for millions of years." How could Starfleet do this without amending its ban on genetic engineering and cloning that has been in place for centuries thanks to Khan Noonien Singh?
@richmcgee434 Жыл бұрын
@@LGranthamsHeir AFAIK, the restrictions all center on human geneering, and only human. Maybe the other signatory races have accepted it, but why they'd do so (and how the Feds would enforce it if they refused) is beyond me. Earth's traumas are not the Federation's as a whole. You certainly can't tell me that no GMOs are used in agriculture or animal husbandry - quadrotriticale is canon - nor that gene therapy is never used for medical cases where human life or quality of life is concerned. Cloning is almost buggy-whip technology anyway, with transporter replication being an easier way to go about things. Vat-grown or replicated Tkon bodies wouldn't be humans (or any Fed member species), nor would they be geneered as "supermen" to fit that nightmare scenario - although the Scions at least would need to have a close eye kept on them. There are literally thousands of bioformed Starfleet personnel from those ships that got transformed, plus who knows how many members of two independent but friendly species trapped inside their own heads. If it takes growing them new bodies to get Tkon cooperation to free them, I think that's a price the Feds would be willing to pay. Now, if there's a cure that doesn't need the Scions or other Tkon from the archives to work out, that might be another story. But if it involves permanently destroying those Tkon (even the Scions, who are certainly war criminals) there's going to be public pushback on that too. They could probably just shove every Starfleet officer through a transporter and reset them using buffer records, resulting in memory loss but extirpating the Tkon presence - but that's killing them. The Federation legal system doesn't kill people, not even terrorists or prisoners of war or whatever the Scion legal status is. Seems like the best bet is to use a carrot instead of a stick with the Scions, get them to help dig some real scientists out of the general Tkon population and find a way to talk to them (either through machinery or re-embodying them in a crafted body - if that's even something they're willing to do, they aren't Scions after all) and get everyone to work together to resolve this problem in a peaceful, civilized manner. That's seems like the message of the game, and of Trek in general. The Federation is supposed to be better, living up to their principles even when its hard to do. They fail a lot because Utopian visions aren't easy to achieve in the real world, but that's not a reason to stop trying. As a codicil, most of the regular Tkon will probably be content to stay dead, going by Portal Six Three's statements. Getting preserved wasn't meant to be a road to immortality and the Scions were heretical fringe lunatics for insisting otherwise. There's not much danger of the whole Empire coming back at once, or at all, but some of them might want to accept the responsibility for re-educating the Scions and preventing a repeat of events here. There were trillions of Tkon, some of them will be ethical enough to see that they can't let their rogues run rampant again, the same way Portal did. Much more just and nuanced outcome than just destroying the Scions, or banishing them back to the status of recorded info when that goes so strongly against their own beliefs. Give them their own bodies, and let the best of the Tkon work alongside Federation counselors to show them why what they did was wrong. That's being better, and showing them that the Feds aren't the savages and inferiors they claim we are.

You know star trek is cool and all but have you ever thought 🤔 of a storyline that was a prequel to star trek? Like most people tend to forget that humanity came together only AFTER the bombs fell and even then a hundred- two hundred years of anarchy followed before FTL tech was invented and first contact, it would be pretty cool if we had some characters from that time periods and followed their own story of survival the best part is that you can make it all up, there's some parts of star trek canon that goes back in time that far but for the most part it rarely touches on the subject. So go nuts it be interesting to see what kind of backward techno states are standing and how petty kingdoms of theocrats would rule the lands of America in darkness and paranoia grasping at superstition to support their hierarchy and condemn their enemies. What would you call the story? Star trek prequel? Star trek origins? After earth? Just brain storming is all.

40:40 - 41:22 They should've used the "Star Trek: First Contact" theme during the memorial service scene. It's very appropriate for the ocassion, since many believed it's the Federation's official anthem

The opening credits theme?

@@_Omega_Weapon That would've worked too, although it would've been identical with "Picard" season 3 😆

Music copyright issue, most likely.

@@richmcgee434 Agreed. The game seems to be a low budget production. The generic background song they used during end its credits were so horrid.

As a side thought.... Whoever wrote this game REALLY needs to go do some work on Star Trek Online. The last couple new content expansions have been a litle bit lackluster as far as storytelling goes.

Video Idea: Worf decidedly won at poker with exceedingly grand confidence and knowhow in, "The Emissary." However, every subsequent episode thereafter, he lost terribly with great ridicule from Data and Geordi. Was this an "Operation :P" from Section 31 or was it an operation from the Tal Shiar's Chairman Koval as revenge against Worf for refusing to give blood to a Romulan soldier? Trekkers and Trekkies alike have been needing to know for a long time.

Starfleet personnel really need to learn and understand the concept of COVER. And if you can push a button once fast...you can just hammer down suppressive fire.. the phaser etiquette and lack of any kind of common sense in combat in Trek has always bugged me. Youre defending a cliff ffs. Lie down on the ground and shoot, dont just stand there like 'please shoot me' *facepalm*

That was condensed it took me 16hs of play. You are far more merciful than I was. I can't remember the other guys name but when I found out the idiot still had his phaser on stun no wonder you had an endless battle through the other ship. I can't believe starfleet can win at all when you aren't willing to kill off your enemies. Why do they beam the dead into space. Doesn't anybody want their relatives body back. What are the regs concerning this barbaric practice. It's not like they are stuck at sea with no way to keep the bodies.
@richmcgee434 Жыл бұрын
That "barbaric process" is an extension of an esteemed naval tradition that some sailors (and ex-sailors) still opt for today. Presumably those aren't all the dead and some crewmen opted out because their family or culture does demand their bodies be treated differently, but it would hardly be surprising for Starfleet to see many crewmen take the offer of burial amongst the stars. Not only to honor the connections with their wet-navy forebears, but because that's got to be pretty appealing for someone who dedicated their life to exploring the frontiers of space. Only groundhogs want to be laid to rest in the dirt.
@stevemcqueen7735 Жыл бұрын
@@richmcgee434 It was necessary in the days of yore but I can't see the appeal to become space junk when you could be brought home. Some might want burial or cremation. and aliens would have their own cultures of practice. Not only groundhogs want a proper burial, a practice that has been going on for hundreds of 1000s years. So what happens to the bodies now? in this barbaric and unecassary tradition.
