Another Dr. Sauer student here. He changed my life and inspired me to teach in that powerful mode of academic training and personal sharing.

Why does this video have only 1,500 views? Dr. Sauer has to be one of the most inspirational people I have heard. Such a good example of a person who is in love with the Bible. (Listened to all 3 parts). Thank you Mike.

I'm in Dr. Sauer's class right now for Greek Exegesis, he still says that the New Testament is a spiritual gold mine, and the Old Testament is a spiritual silver mine haha. One of my favorite professors I have had!

I have this fond memory of how Dr Sauer would correct a student who didn't give a correct answer to a question in class. He'd explain the principle again, and then say "Now, ....having given that mature thought, what is your answer?" Always with a smile on his face. We didn't mind being corrected.And had this deep love of Scripture instilled in us. Forever grateful.

Ha! That's great! I don't remember him doing that with us. He'd simply say "No, let's not take it that way."

Don't forget that he'd include your middle name, which no one but him called you by (and your mom when you were in trouble). :P

I was in his Greek classes at Moody and I do recall moments like that. There are quite a few Sauer-isms that stick in my mind such as his use of the word 'query' instead of question (you can almost hear that in his accent just reading it I bet haha)

@MikeLicona Can you ask him how he reconciles that with Jesus' statement that "With God nothing is impossible".. i have heard that this opens the possibility to "it is impossible for US to do anything toward their repentance..." i.e. verses like.. those OUTSIDE the church God judges.." there is a sin that leads to death, ... dont even pray for such a one"...
@childofgod2869
@childofgod2869 3 жыл бұрын
I think your question concerns Hebrews 6:6 saying that it is impossible to restore an apostate to repentance. I understand that to mean “impossible for God and man.” When Jesus said, “All things are possible with God,” I think He was using hyperbole, meaning “most things, by far, are possible with God.” There are some things impossible for God to do; for example, Hebrews 6:18 says, “It is impossible for God to lie.” I would add a few other things God can’t do: to deny Himself (2 Timothy 2:13); He cannot act contrary to His holy and just nature, nor can He bring to repentance a sinner who deliberately and permanently persists in his sin. @@childofgod2869 thanks for the reply and thoughtful interaction...but I would argue that with God being omnipotent, it means he CAN do all things, but some things we can be sure he WONT do for reasons of logical contradictions, untrustworthiness, etc. So that text MUST be taken literal if we are to hold to omnipotence. But even if you take that verse as Hyperbole, what indicator in the passages show us which is hyperbole and which is literal.. .if one is hyperbole, then we should assume the other is too which makes the two passages meaningless... But if we take BOTH literal, then both have full force and then become our guides to building our doctrine BASED on these phrases, rather than forcing one or the other or both to be taken NOT literal as hyperbole because they dont fit our theology. That is an unpredictable way to interpret the Scriptures.
