As an apprentice from way over in Canada I truly enjoy your videos and these bonding lessons are a great listen. Please come over to the west and teach. Are industry is dying to this lick and stick stone (cultured stone) and there are so few real bricklayers and with those bricklayers they aren't half as insightful as you. So from Canada I say thank you for these videos! Its so great to see there are true craftsmen like your self still left in the world

Thanks very much for the videos Rob. I'm self taught on small projects like garden walls, conservatory bases and porches, being a paviour/groundworker by trade I've always sidetracked. I've just applied myself to a block and stone-work garage that had to integrate into a wall higher than its' roof, which was a patio to higher ground behind the building. The brickies on site took the cream and went onto pastures new, so I persuaded the agent to let me have a crack. I'm very pleased with how it turned out.The whole experience raised a massive amount of interest in brickwork for me and after coming across your videos on here, I have to say, they're the most informative and educational I've come across.The 1kg of mortar per brick was an eye opener, I knew about 60 bricks to the sq/m, but mortar (sand /cement) quantity was always a guess, but the best tip I've picked up so far is how to make broken bond look good. Years of experience explained in a short video, you are what KZbin is all about, thanks again!

hi Fester,your frustration over walls not being brick size is something us bricklayers have frustrated over for many years.There are a few reasons for this but mainly it is to do with the varying size of bricks, which prevents accurate wall lengths to be set

rip vanwincle 4 bricks is 880 but if you actually add a 10mm joint to each outside brick is does add up to 900mm .

A 4 brick pier is actually 890mm, just as a 2 brick pier is 440mm. (One joint less)

hey Alan, that is so weird, I literally copied that booklet for one of my students last night and the next thing is you asking about one.... I have only been asked a few times for this and I've only given it to those I know. But please ask me again in about a month....and I'll see if I have any news on selling it.

I'm not understanding why the bottom course sits below grade?
@robsonger1
@robsonger1 Жыл бұрын
dry bond/first courses are always just below ground level to ensure that when the brickwork above is seen it is all correct.

Rob, where do you get your booklet on brick bonds from?
@billypilgrim7838
@billypilgrim7838 6 жыл бұрын
it's all modular here but even it's not bond 10 brick transfer that number down the wall wasting time is just that .you could do 20 on along wall.it is actually more acurate.example if you're laying out truss anchors you would not measure 16 inches mark it measure 16 you would use a 50foot tape,more accurate

Rediiculous to change bond in middle of wall running bond you could trim 1/2" of a few brick in the same spot
