I was sorry to see you leave us behind in the desert (read: utterly jealous), but I am excited to see where the journey takes you. I'm so happy see things coming together. I hope you can finally start turning your creative energies to more fulfilling projects and hopefully not feel overwhelmed by chores -- I know that's where I always end up when there's shop work to do.

Congrats Marc, I know the overwhelming feeling of wanting everything done and in it's place NOW, but it just takes time after a major move. anchors should probably be driven into the block or brick the grout is the weakest part of the wall it tends to crumble easily when it being drilled into. you should check every now and then to see if they are coming loose. And the shop looks great

Hanging cabinets. 2" X 4" the length of all cabinets to be hung. Level it and use a screw on each end (maybe a 3rd screw in the center depending on length) to temporarily hold in place. Sit a cabinet on top of the 2" X 4", screw to wall, next. No more leveling each one or juggling.

A video, with expert input on lighting, would be interesting. For example, as I understand it, a high CRI does not mean the light color will be close to daylight, it means you will see the most natural colors at a given light temperature (Kelvin). Then you have the choice of which light temperature to use. A high Kelvin is perceived as brighter, and makes it easier to see details, and is closer to daylight. But inside a house, most people use low kelvin lights, similar to the old incandescent lights, which are general felt as warmer and more cozy. Oh, and do not forget lus (or lumen!?) - the overall brightness intensity. Which do you want in your shop? Well, always a high CRI I would think (but they are more expensive). Most furniture is inside, so I would lean toward a lower kelvin. But I need to see things sharply, and then added some temperature, and would choose lights in the middle. And I went for the general operating room level of lumens plus a bit... and spread out the source to avoid shadows as much as possible... This is what I learned from reading a lot, but it would be great to hear how rational my thinking was (is) from some experts in the field...

Congratulation on "finishing." Tip...stay out of the grout seams. They are not as strong and will weaken with the small stress of putting tools on and off. You can drill the brick only as deep as you need your anchor and not go all the way through! Good Luck. DD

Hey Marc. There is a big difference between a hammer drill and a roto-hammer. If you find drilling holes in masonry to be frustrating try a roto-hammer. Not strictly necessary in grout but it’s a must in concrete or stone. Cheers mate, shop is looking awesome

When I saw the clamps, I sort of mumbled something like, "Holy Fork!" I think I see more money tied up in clamps there, than what I paid for my first car. In addition to my "collection" of less than ideal pipe clamps, I do have... *thinks * 10 (ten!) Bessy clamps of various lenghts, and I thought I was "doin' real good" on the clamp end of things. First of all, I do have "clamp envy". Just wanted to point that out. I'm certainly not "talking down" your clamp collection. And secondly, I suspect that if I had the room for, and then purchased that many "Bessy" style clamps, there would be a definite disturbance on the "Domestic Tranquility" front.

See the trick is to be the good spouse and do the shopping, and get a few bucks back in cash, store the money in an old sock then when you have enough buy them 1 or 2 at a time and smuggle them in. Next leave a few laying around so there is always empty slots in your clamp rack, then when there is a sale you pick up a few just to fill out the rack.

Earlier this year my wife and I travelled to visit her family and announce that we were expecting our first baby. Missouri had just become a legal recreational marijuana state. It had been some time since had partook but it was offered to me and I thought “what the heck let’s give it a try. It’ll be relaxing after our road trip from wisconsin”. We’ll I quickly became sick and decided it was time to leave. Of course I had the wife drive us back. A few minutes into the drive I became increasingly sick and had to tell her to pull over so I didn’t yak in the car. She stopped at the first place we saw that wasn’t a house. Long story short, I am very sorry for leaving my lunch in your parking lot, Marc. I hope you at least found humor in the security cam footage. I owe you a 6 pack of your favorite beer.
