No kidding. There are also two factors that skew the aggregate data for the state: 1. The crime stats for Albuquerque don't take into account how localized most of that crime is; yes, the South Valley area is very dangerous, but plenty of other areas are as safe and hospitable as you could want, and that includes most of the places with the best attractions, restaurants, museums, etc. 2. While there is some struggle with education overall, the fact that New Mexico has the largest percentage of people living on reservations of any state needs to be factored in; the educational standards and crime on the reservations is positively dystopian, but for those who don't belong to a designated tribe (including people who might consider moving from another state) these problems, though tragic, aren't especially relevant to their experience of the state in general.

And I spent about as long in San Francisco as a kid and the level of crazy in Seattle/Portland was just too much. Coupled with debilitating costs for basic necessities, I found the region totally unlivable. Dirty, over-priced, under-managed, surprisingly services poor, and socially bizarre. If you add the weather being miserable most of the year with the defensive reaction of the people when you point out flaws and how to fix them because you're an OuTsIdEr.. why stay? Why help? Why spend your money there? You won't. And the region continues to backslide. I like Arizona. I tell them PNW stories and they just stare in disbelief. It's nice.

While the lumbering companies used to cooperate with the US forestry service until the liberals stopped any cooperation to even do fire breaks in the national forests with millions of diseased and dead trees ready to incinerate with the next match. till now with no one allowed to remove dead trees and all the lumber companies all bankrupted and the highest unemployment rates in the nation in the Sierra Nevada foothills till the only thing left is to blame PG&E for high winds or climate change. God have mercy on Kaliforkustan as seen by the climate change demands imposed on their native forests now.

I lived in Alaska and I can tell you right now, I would not recommend it for long-term living. You cannot even order most items online as they do not ship to that location, possibly because of the barge. I tried to order an emergency kit and look for a portable power supply, and none of them ship to that location, so how is one supposed to prepare for an emergency. When doing mapping and analysis of Alaska, I see why they call it the Last Frontier. It is prone to land slides everywhere as the majority of areas are not habitable. There is a high confidence level of landslides occurring pretty much everywhere. The data has been recorded in the USGS landslide inventory. They had a landslide out there last year, and a citizen died. I would not doubt Alaska would be under water sometime in the near future. I agree Washington State is in trouble when it comes to real estate. Looking online just a 1 acre of land or less costs up to 400,000 dollars!

Hey Briggs, I really enjoy your videos. They are one of the reasons I've decided to stick with the state I was born in. This analysis of Alaska reminds me of something I was told about Massachusetts. The traffic is so bad that speed and therefore accidents decrease in severity, also there is a world class hospital not too far away, meaning that help and recovery are nearby. Of course, the price of that salvation, especially if you are uninsured, is sky high. Despite the high cost, living in the second oldest state [polite nod to Virginia at #1], and the oldest continuing government on the planet, we have a reasonable environment, a reasonably democratic government and a culture that cares not what religion, if any, the neighbors adhere to, nor what they read, watch or do in their bedrooms. It's too bad that so many Americans, in so many parts of this country, would rather poke their noses into other people's business, than to live and let live.

This year Florida got more snow than the largest city in Alaska. Anchorage doesn't have sales tax so the tax base isn't drying up since we don't have sales or State income tax. No retirement tax either. We don't have alot of OD's because drugs in large quantities can't be driven in. Anchorage has 3 large medical complex. They are so vast that they have their own voting district. Each are only 5 minutes from our home. None of the oldtimers are ever unhappy about Lower 48's leaving and our crime rate is low compared to most states because there's less than 780k in the entire state. Due to the low crime rate, every crime gets reported to ensure continued federal funding. Unlike some states that only report a percentage of their crimes.

@@tammypowell7466 Last time I checked, I’m an American citizen and I’m from Louisiana. You don’t have to like a place, but you don’t have any rights to say that it’s not a part of the country 😂. And for having one of the worst educational systems in the USA, I can confidently tell you that it is “a part” and not “apart”.

As a Washigonian, I'm a little scared. Thank God this is just an opinion based poll. lol. I'm hoping to get out, in a few years, for my retirement. I'm thinking a move-able home might be the best idea.

So when we combine this list with the with "the 20 states People Regret Moving to" video, we are left with... what exactly? I'll stick with New Mexico. It's affordable- you can still buy a house and pay it off- and people are laid back and relaxed. Just don't live in certain areas of Albuquerque or the oilfields of the SE and you'll do fine.

Thank you for the video! I am less concerned about the levels of tax than I am about what they do with the money.

I live in Pennsylvania. It will not collapse.

The problem is Philadelphia, which the rest of the state has to support financially, and is an open-air un-policed shooting gallery - like all Democrat - run cities. Philly is Pennsylvania's anchor, like Baltimore is for Maryland, Portland is for Oregon, St. Louis is for Missouri, Chicago is for Illinois, Detroit is for Michigan, Memphis is for Tennessee... The best states are the ones without a large crime-ridden full-of-welfare-slugs city, like South and North Carolina, Idaho, Utah, Nebraska, Virginia...
@r.pres.41219 күн бұрын
You clearly don’t know what you are talking about. Philadelphia and it’s big metro pay more taxes into the Harrisburg statehouse than they get back in state services. Philadelphia carries Pennsylvania in Congress just like New York City carries New York in Congress and Chicago carries Illinois in Congress. All three states get the mass majority of their tax revenue from those three cities and their suburbs so all your impoverished backward rural towns can get state services.
@ExhaultedPoobah9 күн бұрын
@@r.pres.4121 Those tax dollars come from the suburbs, not the city, which is an unsafe city due to out-of-control criminality and the Defund-the-Police Criminals-Are-Oppressed-Misunderstood - Victims stuff. It's a third world city, a very dangerous city. The Smart Bear will stay out of Philly. An article was posted a few years ago titled something like "Being White in Philly" ruffled some feathers as it was about how dangerous the city was. OBTW "it's" means "it is" and for the possessive use "its".

SE PA is doing just fine and is strategically located. Yeah a lot of Philly is total ghetto but that's mostly their problem.
@ExhaultedPoobah8 күн бұрын
@@skeptick6513 There are some very pretty areas in Pennsylvania and most of the state is nice. But like Maryland has to support Baltimore and police all the criminals there, Pennsylvania has Philly as its anchor and money sink, as most of those people are on welfare, and are a huge burden on the criminal justice system. And like Baltimore, they all vote Democrat for the handouts and low expectations a la "Oh so pitiful oh so oppressed oh white supremacy everywhere..." codswallop. So the point is that states like Penn and Maryland and Tennessee with Memphis and ... are being held back as compared to states without these parasitic cities like the Carolinas and Idaho and Utah and Nebraska and ... that do not have such a city.
