I'm a Mopar guy but it doesn't get too much better than a Raven Black Boss 429. Install a big 850 cfm carburetor in place of the stock 735 cfm unit, a more radical solid lifter camshaft(the 429 SCJ solid lifter cam would be a good choice), headers, and advance the timing and you've got a low 12 second car or better in the 1/4 mile. They came from the factory with a way too small 735 cfm carburetor, a way too mild hydraulic camshaft, and a really restrictive exhaust system with a smog pump. That was probably Ford just trying to make the Boss9 more street friendly but it really did hurt their performance. But it didn't take much work at all to turn the Boss 429 into a fire breathing monster. Love this car

That’s awesome. I really wish ford would have just kept the 429 boss and the 351 Cleveland as the staple engines. One thing that ford has seemed to always do is make a bunch of different v8s instead of one small block base and one big block base like Chev did. There is goods and bads of that but it would have been cool for a ford head like me to see Cleveland headed stuff in place of the Windsor stuff. I love Windsor’s and have a forged 393 but I am just dreaming. They did the same stuff with the modulars. A zillion different varients. I am glad they stapled down with the coyote. Bc I think it’s a really killer engine. Anyways. God bless.

In Junk yard in Minnesota I Vividly remember seeing a mustang less than 100 miles on it(as young man) Looked like it had been rolled twice. Distinctive valve covers with plug releafs. HANDS OFF SIGNS all iver it. Hood buckled, could see engine, trunk open. Empty case of beer & booze bottles there. Prob a total then. I do hope it was put back together.

I wouldn`t have changed the color. It came from Ford as a white car. This was just a devious way to best the #KK1214 car by taking a race car and turning it into a street car which it was not. If I owned the #14 car I would be pissed. That being said my favorite Mustang is the 69 and I don`t care what engine it has. I like the Boss 302 best tho.

There is a white one in va. that is original right down to hoses and tires and the owner does occasionally drive it to car shows. It's funny to watch people nit pick it because of its blemishes, and the ogle the Mach 1 sitting next to it because it is prettier with its stripes and slats, etc. not realizing the Boss 9 is worth 3 times more.

There was a Maroon 1969 Boss 429 we knew of in the Rochester New York area that the owner over heated the engine badly and so he brought it in to a friends shop and we took the heads off to see why the thing ran so bad . The shop owner called Holman Moody for help on replacing the heads and they said to use Silicone bathtub caulk to hold all the O-Rings on the head when putting them back on . The car didn't run any different because I believe the rings were shot from the heat . Meanwnhile another Ford shop talked the owner into putting a 289 hypo in and got the original Boss 429 engine . I always wondered where that car ended up ?

The car next to it was built as a replica of how this car looked when it was raced. It would have been nice to get a little bit of the story behind that car. I wonder which KK car was used as the parts car? There was a very nice original unrestored '69 Boss 9 car in Madisonville KY a few years ago that was sold at auction. I got to see the car a few times, and I worked with the owner's son for a few years. I wonder where it is now.
@Hahatengocaradequeme
@Hahatengocaradequeme 4 жыл бұрын
Ideally, they used the non-stock parts on the donor car, making it a replica of KK1213 in "as raced" condition. It makes sense, avoids throwing away a real 429 (It also makes it more historically and economically valuable), and it pays homage to the race history of 1213. Hopefully they will shed some light on the matter.
@jecst45
@jecst45 4 жыл бұрын
@Hahatengocaradequeme I agree, hopefully they used the parts car to make the race version, but the should’ve put the 1970 front end on it so it would have the true “as raced” appearance.

I've never been a Mustang fan, I always thought they were overrated, and ford guys in general (at least the ones I know) are some of the most arrogant car guys, but if I ever had to choose a Ford to own, it would be a BOSS 429 Mustang. That engine truly is an engineering marvel on par with the Chrysler HEMI.

@gregorytimmons4777 4 жыл бұрын
@Buddy Wiser In what way? Poorly engineered and executed compared to Mopar Hemi cars and Boss 429's never dominated at the drag strip over Mopar Hemi cars. The cars didn't drive as good as the 426 cars and the Boss 429 was not an engine compatable with nitro. Maintainance was a nightmare with that thing crammed in there. So tell me, how was the engineering on the Boss 429 superior to Chrysler Corp. Hemi cars? Everybody knows that Mopars of the 1960's were the most engineered cars. I don't even think many Ford guys believe Ford's with their shock towers were engineered nearly as well as Mopars with torsion bar suspension. Mustangs would have been better cars than they were if they had left the big block out of them and made the Boss 351 a couple years earlier and had that as the top engine choice. Honestly, stuff like 429 Mustangs probably hastened the end of the muscle car era. Imagine any insurance under writer looking under the hood of a Boss '9, ostensibly sold as a street car by Ford and not thought it somewhat ridiculous. If you read the period road tests the Boss 429 Mustang as delivered was not delivering dominating performance on the drag strip. The engine was designed to battle the Hemi in NASCAR. Designed for WOT operation around super speedways. Gargantuan ports for the street or strip in terms of getting out of the hole that just knocked the stump pulling low end torque out of the engine. Under carbed and cammed. They were a bit underwhelming as delivered for the potential that they never really lived up to. Their value is directly related to the rarity. That said, they certainly look impressive in a 33'4 Ford Coupe with a tunnel ram or blower set up. Ford really screwed the pooch cramming an engine built for NASCAR in a Mustang. Totally illogical move. Should have gone into Torino's and Cyclone's. I'm not a brand fan boy. I just love cars and there are Ford's I'd dearly love to own that I thought were great cars. I can't really admire a Boss 429 Mustang as a well thought out and executed car in terms of practicality, performance in the real world or drivability.
@CoyoteFTW
@CoyoteFTW 2 жыл бұрын
@@gregorytimmons4777 - they sure kicked 426 ass in Nascar which is what it was designed to do. Bob glidden also won ALOT with one. Ford didn’t need the 429 on the drag strip the SOHC was enough! An engine Ford designed in 90 days! Imagine if they actually gave a damn! And perfected the design! Hell Ed pink said the SOHC was better. And also article titled Heavy Breathers. They concluded the SOHC had way more potential. Don’t you remember that’s the ONLY engine in HISTORY. To ever win IHRA, NHRA and AHRA top fuel. One and only ever triple crown in top fuel racing. Did the 426 hemi do that?? The 426 has become so overhyped it’s ridiculous. Shame Ford didn’t instal it into production vehicles. Hell, Ford didn’t install their best engines in any production vehicle. Dodge did we are all familiar with how good they are mis 13’s at best. Yet the 428cj, 427fe and 429 boss. Can go toe to toe. With anything else in Detroit. Stop spewing factless propaganda

To bad there won't be anymore Muscle Cars, when the 4 door variant Mach E is sold retail. Millennials at Ford don't have respect for Mustang's iconic Historical Automotive heritage value. All past, present, and future Mustang's will be removed from the Muscle car segment shared with the Challenger and Camaro. Seen a new 2021 Camaro Wagon with 4 doors. I guess Millennials are to young and didn't get the memo that the Dodge Magnum failed.
