BOSS 429 from a 429" Stroker WINDSOR??? Project MIXED UP BOSS

As I finish up the assembly on Project MIXED UP BOSS.. This will be the last video on it till we do the Engine Dyno Video.( Dyno day should be soon I will let you know on the community page when we have it locked in) I'm really excited to see all of the fruits of our labor come together and make some power!
For new viewers I have made a whole playlist of this build... I'm using Greg Brown of Hammerhead Performance Engines BOSS "Hemi" 429 style heads designed for a small block Ford on a FRPP BOSS 351 Block, Scat 4340 forged crank, Scat H beam Rod, Diamond Pistons, 11 to 1 compression ratio, Howards Solid roller cam 259/263 @ .050" .674/.705 lift on a 108 LSA, Howards/ Pacaloy springs, Manley Titanium Retainers/Locks I'm adapting a Cleveland Weiand Hi-Ram to run on this Windsor package to make for a dry intake manifold and to have a Nostalgic look topped off with my two worked over Holley 660 Center Squirter carbs! Who knows you may see it with a set of 1050 Dominators on top????
The goals for MIXED UP BOSS are:
1) Use out of the box parts
2) To use Pump gas
3) Make 750hp
4) Drive it everywhere/ Race it Anywhere..

For years, I wanted to convert a 440 to a stroker 496 HEMI, with heads from Stage V Engineering. But now that Trick Flow has those killer 270cc Max Wedge size heads, that might be a better option. But damn, Hemis are just COOL! Especially with an 8-71!

@shakeydavesr
@shakeydavesr 2 жыл бұрын
Regarding multi-million dollar homes, it’s a cost/ corner cutting technique. We call them "finger painters". Whereas most commercial grade silicone and urethane sealants that is a big no-no, will void warranties. But in this application, using the tape then some cleaning/ touch-up is just fine. The tape method is cleanest and usually (if done correctly) leaves the cleaners edge.

@@UnityMotorSportsGarage I am building a 1930-31 Model A Coupe and if money was no object I would be building something like this but obviously I will never come up with this kind of money to build a engine like this which I am just putting a 302 with a AOD out of a 94-95 Mustang GT with less then a 100,000 on drive train with a set of GT 40 heads from a 94-95 Cobra. I have to do everything in segments meaning it sits in a garage tell I have the money to buy most stuff used. I had it sandblasted. New wheel bearings, seals wheel houses, new brake shoes and drums put in. The tag read 3:08 gears but somehow it has 3:33s which will be fine for a car I will cruise and go to shows with. I was thinking the same thing. Size of bead seemed a bit excessive, I would have applied it closer to the outer edges of china wall (especially since you had the tape there to aid I’d cleaning excess and cleaner appearance. But I know this isn’t your first rodeo,,, lol. I would still have looked under base plate through the access plate opening to make sure their were no big gobs to potentially fall off and clog an oil drain/ pickup etc. Though I’m sure that the cam you’ve chosen will probably idle so smooth that you’ll be able to stand a quarter on its edge and it won’t fall over, (a roll of quarters so that is,,,lol). BTW, greetings from the wrong side of Gaston County, ;)

@@UnityMotorSportsGarage thank you for your time and your work with your channel. I'm glad you said that about Dragboss garage. My dad and a few of my friends have porch screenings or sun room meetings depending on the weather. I was hoping he was going to invite you on , I was going to ask him to do so because of your passion for what you do and how you do it. Now I can patiently wait and surprise the crowd with what I will consider a great show. Thanks for the tip and I promise I will not say a word to the crowd. They will love it. That peaked my interest. Head flow numbers would be cool, as well as price.... as I'm typing this I see a like to flow testing episode in the KZbin play list. Just having the look means nothing to me unless I'm getting that much more out of it, as it doesn't look cheap. I have a 1968 mustang and stock engine bay to work with.Just a 351w and it seems hard enough to get headers that fit and make big power. I also have a super charged new edge mustang with a modular 4.6 and I just don't like it much... It reminds me of turbo lag cars of the 80s, and it's gearing should not reflect that.

Mmm wondering why you have clearance problems with that engine bay. I have a 65 Mustang with a 351w in thats been in there since 1991. JBA full length headers. Was custom at the time but still fits. The later Mustangs have way more room.

Does a stroked 351 still maintain a good rod angle for longevity with this much stroke? I know the Chevies really have a lot of side wear on the cylinders because of the short deck. Excellent video.
@UnityMotorSportsGarage
@UnityMotorSportsGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Ken, the Windsor in my opinion has a bit more going for it by having a Taller deck height 9.5 vs the 9.02 of the Chevy.. it doesn't seem to affect piston wear as much in my opinion... Hope this helps Andy

The crank? Doesn't the distributor shaft turn the oil pump?
@davidcooper2856
@davidcooper2856 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRoadhammer379 on that engine yes. Distributor would be in stalled to pump oil. Or cycle oil pump with drill to keep components lubricated. Some people install after market rocker assemblies and are pushing the rocker arm at full lift with the wrong geometry causing lifter and other valve train failure from the excessive force at full lift.

Just watching this again for the third time, and for the life of me it looks like that head gasket is on backwards..... small coolant holes in the rear and large hole in front. The angle for seeing the front hole is pretty steep, so maybe a trick of the light. I know the gaskets sometimes say " front" but that isn't always foolproof.

@@UnityMotorSportsGarage Cool, so I’m not going crazy. What kinda HP do you estimate that thing will make? I saw the hot rod article on the 416 LS version, made really good power for what it was but I don’t think that mild build really took advantage of those heads, a good set of LS heads will make the same numbers, I found another HR write up on an essentially identical short block, same cubes, nearly identical cam and CR, and it made almost exactly the same numbers. Not putting the hammer heads down, just think at the 650hp level they are not being fully taken advantage of. The Windsor 427 that made close to 1000hp, now that was making good use of all that flow. Can’t wait to see your dyno numbers.
