I'm ending Day 1 - for the third try at this (lol). So far so good. Withdrawal can be brutal though so be prepared to do it over a weekend or holiday where you do not have to worry about work. Shaking, constant puking, wandering around like a zombie. Prepare for insomnia for 3 days. Laying in bed w your eyes closed seeing crazy images/hallucinations. Hearing voices and noises that aren't there. Extreme anxiety and the inability to focus and think straight. The best thing I found was if you can get a 5 day supply prescription for Valium ahead of it, it really helps get you through the worst of it. Cold showers help. Go sit outside and get some Vitamin D in the sun. Don't plan on doing much for those 3 days. Get rid of all alcohol in the house first and stock the fridge w Gatorade, sparking waters, juices, etc. Drink tons of water (even if you puke it up). By the morning of Day 4 you should start feeling better (or at least not like you are going to die) and can start getting back to a semi-normal day. By Day 7 you should be mostly detoxed and feeling pretty normal. Good luck to you! (and me!). =)

Thank you for YOUR support! I made this video over 2 years ago at the beginning of my journey. And since then I have fallen off the wagon hard, got back on, fell back off, and gotten back on. I've definitely learned a lot along the way, and I know we aren't perfect. Everything in life has its struggles in complications and setbacks. I have since created a new method that I'd like to encourage you to try if you're willing? It's called the "100 NO Challenge". Very simply, what you do is every time that you feel a craving or you have the idea pop up in your head to go to the bar or grab booze at the grocery store or from the liquor store or wherever temptation arises you just say no and keep track of it. It's easiest if you download a "counter app", any of them will do. Every time you say no it gives you more power. And you can reward yourself by logging that no. After you've said no a hundred times you'll be so far removed from your temptations that your momentum will be much greater than it was when you started, and will have something visual and tangible to look at with regard to your progress. it's really hard to just say no to yourself in your own head, or to your friends, and not see all of your progress. This way you actually have a progress report. You can even take a journal every day maybe in your calendar and write down how many times you said "no" that day, as encouragement. I also find the app called "quitzilla" to be very helpful. It keeps track of how many days you've been abstinent from your Vice, and you can also keep track of how much money you've saved as well. So that's another very powerful tool for keeping track of your sobriety and encouraging your progress! Stay in touch, I'm excited to hear your progress!!

God helps those who help themselves! I like to think of it this way: God is not a genie. Prayers are kind of like an employer match 401k, when we put in the effort, we get the results. With that being said, you should certainly be PROUD of your 2 days. 2 becomes 3, becomes a week, becomes a year. I think we can ALL say that we wish our parents were more sober more often, and it's up to US to break that cycle. It's up to US to never let the little ones know the pain of addiction, and being robbed of their best years with us. Kids are only kids for so long before they become jaded teens, and angry adults. BE THE CHANGE!

Sober date 11/28/2002* I relapsed on pot after 9 months & then started “social drinking” again. It’s been 20 years of using & my life feels out of my control. I’m just starting sobriety….again. Alcohol & medical marijuana. The MM is very helpful (it’s for Multiple Sclerosis) but I am completely powerless over it - I just keep smoking it till it’s gone & I relate to this video so much -even though you’re talking about alcohol. I’m doing sober October & starting early. Like today is day one. It’s been 20 years of using & my life is not what I want it to be. Alcohol I use on vacations, holidays, family gatherings, but always to excess. If it is in the house I WILL ALWAYS drink it even if it’s a hard liquor I don’t like. It gives me headaches & I drink it anyway, smoking/vaping MM too much gives me headaches but I do it anyway. I guess what I.m saying is if it’s in my house & gets me high I am powerless over it. I want to see who I am again once this fog lifts. So happy to have found your channel. I always went to AA meetings during my sobriety, once in awhile an NA meeting. I drank daily before I got sober the first time. The MM is harder for me to stay away from now, but they’re both the same. I am powerless in their presence.Thanks so much for your channel. On my 3rd attempt to get sober again. First time I went 5 days without a drink. 2nd time I made it a full week. I hate alcohol and want to be rid of it for good. On day one, about 20 hours in. Mild withdrawal shakes and anxiety. I know I won't sleep for the next 2 days or so as the cold sweats will come at night. I have to do this. For my wife, for my daughter, for myself.

Third day sober. It used to be a once in awhile thing until about 3-4 years ago. Once the heavy drinking started, I kept gaining weight. 220 in 2016... 290 last week. I hate throwing away money and being so obese. Yet the urge to drink gets overwhelming, like I'm missing something. That numb feeling. You nailed it... the regrets, the hangovers, the poor health. It's been over 3 years since you uploaded this video, how did it go for you? Time to read the comments -Stranger

What a coincidence.... Don't know how long it's been but maybe a couple weeks before i stopped I told a friend I was just trying to not drink for three days. If it wasn't my stash it was offers or just me giving in. Now I just want to forget what it feels like to be drunk or to wake up after drinking. I'm thankful for this channel being insightful and encouraging of not just sobriety but better health cus I'm feeling it....The words I don't drink actually slipped out of my mouth and...it was mind blowing didn't think that would happen for maybe a year or so but it's my thought process

Crazy that three days a year or two ago are such a small fragment of time compared to the time that’s surpassed but when you are getting sober they are the longest/ most impossible feeling three days ever you’re et a year later they could be the difference in every thing you do. Sending prayers out for anyone going thru this hell! Choose life guys, it is quite literally the most important decision in your life right now.

I've just done 7 and agree the first 3(I might say 4, even 5) are very hard. You need a solid vision and be prepared to grit your teeth every now and again. It gets easier but I don't plan to get complacent. Yes, 5 days did feel like I was still withdrawing. I was drinking 20 standard drinks of cheap port a day for ten years plus. Yes, that does equal peripheral neuropathy.- the only reason I'm stopping apart from the beginnings of liver disease. You need the vision to see that you just haven't been listening for decades😮😅😮😢

@copperridgegrow39407 ай бұрын
I never was a fan of alcohol so never used it. My preference was snorting heroin. I snorted it several times per day for close to 15 years. Quit in 2016. Haven’t touched it since or any other drug. The hardest part of quitting isn’t the actual quitting but the boredom that sets in after a few months clean. All the time I used to spend obtaining, using and being high is now free time that isn’t filled with anything. It’s an emptiness. I feel empty and bored. I survived horribly bad withdrawals and didn’t use but I fear the thing that might one day make me go back to using is this terrible emptiness I feel. That’s the hard part. My life is pretty good. I own property, my house, 2 cars and have a good income. I grow organic produce and give lots of it away to food banks. But there’s still this extreme empty feeling that never goes away. The only thing that ever made me truly happy was heroin. Without it life is dull and empty
@GettingSoberAgain7 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your very real and candid observation. A lot of people understand the emptiness and the void. I like to visualize it as a healing wound in the soul. One that closes up slowly for some, and maybe never for others. In your down to earth explaination, would you say you have at all dramatized the depth and the frequency of this void? It almost sounds like it's inescapable and never shrinking when you think about it, but perhaps when your mind is occupied it "forgotten but not gone". I wonder if for you, it will ever be more like a scar. where you can just look at it and know you WERE in pain, and you did have to rehab that pain, adjust and taking things slowly...but eventually get on back to normal with only a reminder of what only was, without the pain.

For a segment of people it is a blessing in the disguise. They either go sober or start drinking more responsibly. For others though, it is just not enough. They go on to rack up even more DUIs. I have met people with 6 DUIs. I guess these are the people with more severe dependency. They have likely spent jail/ prison time and had to pay thousands of dollars in legal fees and fines.
