I was a heavy drinker for 20 years, I considered myself a functioning alcoholic. I have been 100% sober for 14 months. It took me about 8 months to feel better again and to feel healthy. I feel really great now lots of energy clearer thinking no anxiety minimal depression. Stopping drinking was the hardest thing I ever did and now I don't even think about it anymore. I don't know what advice I can give anyone all I can say is you have to want to quit.

I completely quit drinking 3 years ago this passed Thanksgiving. I was an 18 pack a day type of guy. I worked 3rd shift, then went home and drank all morning. I'm also a food addict. At one point, I surpassed 600 lbs. I gave it up because I simply had to. I'm 40 years old, and that type of lifestyle was taking a heavy toll on me. I totally agree with your reasoning as to why folks drink. I specifically agree with your point about coping with your place in the world. We all want to be a Hollywood mega producers, and not some schmo working some job that nobody cares about. What's important to know is that everyone's life has purpose. We are all here for a reason. Once people stop drinking, and find their purpose, they won't even need booze anymore.

Day 1, quit yesterday. I quit for a year and then celebrated, guess what that was Thanksgiving. I have been binging since then until now. Gained a ton of weight etc. Liver hates me, so yeah.. here we are. Good luck to everyone. I am looking forward again to have mental clarity, energy, lack of exhaustion, less anxiety and depression. Then being able to lose weight, my knees hate me and just get back to doing things I use to do. Being 48, over weight and boozing it in overtime is a terrible way..

@@Mukanimou I am still on the sober train. I had a setback which really kinda almost screwed me up. Got kicked out of a band for 5 years, people I thought were friends left me high and dry. That hurt and almost had me in the bottle again, but so far I have resisted the urge. So as of yesterday its been 9 weeks I think. Thanks for checking!

This video just popped up on my feed……I had a year sober and decided I would drink on my birthday, which is Christmas Day and be able to control it. I found out real fast but I couldn’t. I’ve been drinking for the last four months . I am so mad at myself. I was thinking I could try the old moderation. It took about one week to get up to my usual amount. One lesson that I did learn , is that I am not a normal drinker…. i’m an all or nothing! #Startingover

Mom got pancreatitis, quit drinking, fell off the wagon, got her colon partially removed along with her gullbladder, now shes trying again and its been hard on her. Just spending time with her and keepin her occupied. We used to drink with eachother A LOT, and now we gotta go through this drastic change for her health (and mine I suppose). Im about to turn 21 and it just doesnt sound as exciting as it should. Everyone I knows more excited about me being able to legally drink than I am. I dunno, heavy drinkings just rough all around and I appreciate what youre doin, man. Video really resonated w me

I feel you! I also have pancreatitis, but it's very mild and manageable. I take creon digestive supplements when I eat every meal. It sounds like you're being called on to be strong for a higher purpose and a great way to do that is by staying sober. you have plenty of life ahead of you, and I wish you all the rest, strength and lack of stress you need to handle all that's being asked of you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 you're certainly stronger than I was at 21, and I am proud of you for being there for your mom. (just make sure you're taking care of yourself too.) Remember, you're never too young to start therapy and to get a professional opinion on how to navigate these very testing events in your life 😀

Map it out, know when you rest, where there may be detours, etc… People spend more time preparing for a trip to the beach than they do for journey into sobriety... Watch these two episodes below before you start!! This is a journey that takes 3 major things -Preparation -Practice -Patience I made an episode specifically for this! Episode 87 called "The 3 P's of Sobriety: Preparation, Practice, Patience" kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJrRZIGlnrl9f80 I also did one specifically on the PREPARATION part, episode 103: "Preparing to get Sober" kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYK4qXyNbb1omKM WATCH THEM BOTH AND GET BACK TO ME :) And before you forget, make sure to subscribe and turn on all notifications so you can join our livestream/chats and know when we have new episodes out.

@@GettingSoberAgain Haha, yeah I was wondering how no one seems to have caught that. While you're here: I have been watching a lot of your videos these past couple of days, never had a drinking problem, but everything you say is 1:1 what I experienced for years now, just with the green, but everything apart from the substance is pretty much the same. As I'm approaching 33 the voice in my head that says "you've been here long enough, you have known for a long time what every day feels like, and it's not fun anymore" hearing you say what I think really helps me to go for the first P to actually start a new life. Preparation Phase initiated, let's hope this time it doesn't get drowned again in the noise before I get over the initial hump to do this sobriety thing. but it's hard and I'm weirdly scared, even though I know it will be better. Being an addict personality is weird. not like in the movies, much more subtle, but just as devastating if we're honest. So thank you. Keep those mid sentence giggles up, bro!

@@dylerturden106 it sounds like you were listening carefully! Just one small change: use definitive statements. "I will make this work" rather than "let's hope it works this time". Goong backwards isn't an option; Your future is up ahead. Think of if you use the same statements for your job. Would you say "I hope that I stay employed"? You keep showing up. I've given up drinking for an extended period of time. When I was drinking, I would do and think things while I was drinking and the next day. As I did and thought them, I would note, 'Well, that's what I do when I'm drinking'. These things might be losing my balance, or not feeling alert the next morning, or other things. Then I quit drinking, and I noticed I did most of these same things when I've been sober for weeks. So I've learned that my physical and mental processes are not that radically different between intoxicated periods and sober periods, or at least not as different as I've consciously and unconsciously thought they were previously.

I am on day 16 of sobriety. I was drinking everyday, cocktail or two and wine with dinner. Stopping the booze was the final piece. I am also doing intermittent fasting, have been for a couple of years, so I lost about 70 lbs over that time, even while drinking almost everyday. The Doc said I fixed the fatty liver. My BP is down from 150/90 to 120/75. I go to the gym 5 out of 7, weights, cardio. Today it was 70 degrees for the first time this year, so I just came back from a two-hour bike ride. Got sun. Sooooo.... how much longer do I have to keep this up? Why can't I have some wine tonight? I bought some steak tips. I could fire up the grill for the first time this season. Is this really my life now? This sucks. Why can't I drink once or twice a week?

Haven't ran so much lately because of fatigue. Hopefully things start improving again...

@@Kyle-pj2vc ok good. The basic formula for water is half your body weight in ounces. You and I are about the same size. So you would want to drink at least 90oz of water per day. I always drink fresh lemon water with sea salt (until it tastes like unsweetened Gatorade). You may want to try incorporating the best quality that you can afford: multi vitamin, fish oil, tumeric supplements.

GET OVER THE HUMP!!!!!! In my opinion, the first 3 days are the absolute worst. The first 3 days are hell. If you can get thru hell, the road will be much more tolerable. Please make sure that you have healthy alternatives to drinking lined up. I don't mean just replacement drinks, but activities. Be accountable with your friends, family, etc that you aren't drinking!

@@GettingSoberAgain yeah I’m 45 and always stayed in shape but alcohol has always been there like most guys, but since covid hit the world, I quit working out, ate shitty, and drank pretty much nightly. Now my testosterone is super low, had a bit of fatty liver, so I figured I would go awhile without drinking, right before Super Bowl I started feeling shitty in the first half of the day................so about a week ago I quit drinking for now, wasn’t easy but I’ve just been achey and fatigue off and on...............started walking a couple hours a day the last few days, eating and drinking good with vitamins and such. Still got the achey and fatigue off and on. So it could be the low testosterone from killing myself for a year, or cutting out the booz, or something else not sure. Going back to doctor next week.
