I was a heavy drinker for 20 years, I considered myself a functioning alcoholic. I have been 100% sober for 14 months. It took me about 8 months to feel better again and to feel healthy. I feel really great now lots of energy clearer thinking no anxiety minimal depression. Stopping drinking was the hardest thing I ever did and now I don't even think about it anymore. I don't know what advice I can give anyone all I can say is you have to want to quit.

I completely quit drinking 3 years ago this passed Thanksgiving. I was an 18 pack a day type of guy. I worked 3rd shift, then went home and drank all morning. I'm also a food addict. At one point, I surpassed 600 lbs. I gave it up because I simply had to. I'm 40 years old, and that type of lifestyle was taking a heavy toll on me. I totally agree with your reasoning as to why folks drink. I specifically agree with your point about coping with your place in the world. We all want to be a Hollywood mega producers, and not some schmo working some job that nobody cares about. What's important to know is that everyone's life has purpose. We are all here for a reason. Once people stop drinking, and find their purpose, they won't even need booze anymore.

Day 1, quit yesterday. I quit for a year and then celebrated, guess what that was Thanksgiving. I have been binging since then until now. Gained a ton of weight etc. Liver hates me, so yeah.. here we are. Good luck to everyone. I am looking forward again to have mental clarity, energy, lack of exhaustion, less anxiety and depression. Then being able to lose weight, my knees hate me and just get back to doing things I use to do. Being 48, over weight and boozing it in overtime is a terrible way..

This video just popped up on my feed……I had a year sober and decided I would drink on my birthday, which is Christmas Day and be able to control it. I found out real fast but I couldn’t. I’ve been drinking for the last four months . I am so mad at myself. I was thinking I could try the old moderation. It took about one week to get up to my usual amount. One lesson that I did learn , is that I am not a normal drinker…. i’m an all or nothing! #Startingover

Just spending time with her and keepin her occupied. We used to drink with eachother A LOT, and now we gotta go through this drastic change for her health (and mine I suppose). Im about to turn 21 and it just doesnt sound as exciting as it should. Everyone I knows more excited about me being able to legally drink than I am. @@GettingSoberAgain Haha, yeah I was wondering how no one seems to have caught that. While you're here: I have been watching a lot of your videos these past couple of days, never had a drinking problem, but everything you say is 1:1 what I experienced for years now, just with the green, but everything apart from the substance is pretty much the same. As I'm approaching 33 the voice in my head that says "you've been here long enough, you have known for a long time what every day feels like, and it's not fun anymore" hearing you say what I think really helps me to go for the first P to actually start a new life. Preparation Phase initiated, let's hope this time it doesn't get drowned again in the noise before I get over the initial hump to do this sobriety thing. but it's hard and I'm weirdly scared, even though I know it will be better. Being an addict personality is weird. not like in the movies, much more subtle, but just as devastating if we're honest. So thank you. Keep those mid sentence giggles up, bro!

I've given up drinking for an extended period of time. When I was drinking, I would do and think things while I was drinking and the next day. As I did and thought them, I would note, 'Well, that's what I do when I'm drinking'. These things might be losing my balance, or not feeling alert the next morning, or other things. Then I quit drinking, and I noticed I did most of these same things when I've been sober for weeks. So I've learned that my physical and mental processes are not that radically different between intoxicated periods and sober periods, or at least not as different as I've consciously and unconsciously thought they were previously.

I am also doing intermittent fasting, have been for a couple of years, so I lost about 70 lbs over that time, even while drinking almost everyday. The Doc said I fixed the fatty liver. My BP is down from 150/90 to 120/75. I go to the gym 5 out of 7, weights, cardio. Today it was 70 degrees for the first time this year, so I just came back from a two-hour bike ride. Got sun. Sooooo.... how much longer do I have to keep this up? Why can't I have some wine tonight? I bought some steak tips. I could fire up the grill for the first time this season. A week out as in a week sober?
@jdssurf3 жыл бұрын
@@GettingSoberAgain yeah I’m 45 and always stayed in shape but alcohol has always been there like most guys, but since covid hit the world, I quit working out, ate shitty, and drank pretty much nightly. Now my testosterone is super low, had a bit of fatty liver, so I figured I would go awhile without drinking, right before Super Bowl I started feeling shitty in the first half of the day................so about a week ago I quit drinking for now, wasn’t easy but I’ve just been achey and fatigue off and on...............started walking a couple hours a day the last few days, eating and drinking good with vitamins and such. Still got the achey and fatigue off and on. So it could be the low testosterone from killing myself for a year, or cutting out the booz, or something else not sure. Going back to doctor next week.
