Love it! 💪 Thanks Joey. And for women, or any guys helping the women in their lives with this - remember women's weight can fluctuate quite a lot throughout the month. I personally find I'm at my heaviest the day before I get my period, then loose 1-2kg once it's started. (Water weight). So factoring where I am in my cycle when tracking weight and muscle growth has really helped me. Joey - BTW, I loved the video you did about Mags taking creatine while she was pregnant. 💪💕

I don't bulk nor cut. I'm not consistent either, sometimes I go to the gym 4 times a week for 6 month and then not once for 2. But I'll always watch anything Joe is putting on youtube. Keep doing videos until the end of time please 🙏

I know this may seem like basic knowledge, but I have to ask. If my maintenance is 2000cal, and I burn 500cal during workout. Does that mean I have to eat 2500 on workout days or stick to 2000. Many thanks

Video came at a great time for me, lost 80lbs of fat this year lean for the first time in my life and am looking to start a bulk soon but been hearing conflicting advice of how to transition or if its even worth bothering to do it, a month of maintenance makes sense, terrified of getting fat again... 😅
@TopKat12 күн бұрын
I'm the same. I was cutting for an entire year and lost 3 stone. I've found Dr Mike Israetel and RP a tremendous resource for training and diet. I've just started my mass gaining phase. I did 2 weeks at maintenance with no training. Well the first week was deload to be truthful, but it was so easy that you can't really call it training lol. Quite tricky to calculate the maintenance cals, but don't be too afraid of getting a bit fat, you can always mini-cut.
@bawseeeee6022 күн бұрын
@TopKat1 thanks for the advice bro, how did you accurately get your maintenance calories ? Some online calculators give different numbers. Was gonna average those and adjust based on scale weight ?

Great video. Since we're about to enter trifle season, What is your advice for someone going into a bulk after the mince pies have been rinsed? Do you think you should start at -30 after the bounties have gone or do a quick week or two to get rid of the holiday excess first? I've been cutting for the most of this year (I'm at 24% bf having lost 30kg in 3 years) but do want to build some more muscle after Christmas and thinking of doing a bulk for 3 months. I've been training since July 2022 so a total noob at this still
@prtheidКүн бұрын
You don't need to bulk to build muscle. Eat enough protein around your maintenance and get a whole lot stronger across all of your lifts. You can always just take a break from dieting and be at maintenance it's not a binary on/off switch for muscle growth. You have excess fat and are ripe for training stimulus. This is recomp territory not justifying a calorie surplus.

How long to eat maintaince cals after the cut before the bulk?
@JoeDelaneyyКүн бұрын
I think a month is a good amount of time, but it really depends on how extreme/long the suit was. You definitely don't need to do it for that long if you're confident you're not gonna rebound too much.
@MRS320ableКүн бұрын
@JoeDelaneyy so what would u say the minimum time a week or until ur hungry dies down from the cut?

How much could a woman (with like half a year of experience) gain per month? Have lost 15 kg and now want to build it up again but am quite scared for too much fat gain.
@Rakyr2 күн бұрын
I think it is tricky when you're lean because any fat gain is obvious compared to starting at a slightly higher bodyfat. However I know that is the main way to gain mass...so screw it...time to bulk!
@TopKat12 күн бұрын
Good video again Joe. I think Dr Mike generally recommends shooting for around 0.5% weight gain per week. I think with his way, you might expect some fat, but apparently will yield the more optimal muscle gain than going any slower. His view is that it's easier to do a mini-cut and shift fat without losing muscle. I'm sure Dr Layne also has a similar view that you can't 'maingain' yourself from 130lbs to 200lbs. In terms of doing maintenance first then the bulk. Think this is also spot on with the science. I've just done it myself with a 2 week maintenance period where the first week is deload training (50%) and the second week is an active rest. My personal experience is that it was quite challenging to calculate the maintenance cals coming off a cut. The added factor of not burning my usual calories from 8 training sessions over that period added a level of complexity to it for me. That said, I think I managed okay as I managed to keep my weight just slightly above where it was when I ended the cut, but ultimately it was just good guesswork. I think it's better here to be eating in a surplus than in a deficit at this stage anyway as your body needs to heal before the mass gaining phase.

at one point i really think the excercise how to needs to come or be improved, much in the app is just this basic not really howto, just muscle no pointers or hints what to engange or small tips.. improvement 1 would be to make you do the movements and show them in clips, maybe not in app or just somewhere where you tell how to perform.. i really need this right now using your app. some of the pictures i think are plain wrong, or migth show it in a wierd way compared to real humans and how we operate ;)
Great video, man! I've spent 15 years helping many thousands of skinny guys bulk up. That 6'4 skinny beginner with good muscle-building genetics can do 10 pounds leanly in that first month. A skinny beginner of normal height and genetics is usually more than 5 lean pounds. (Naturally.) I know that sounds fast, but I've experienced it myself, and I've seen it with thousands of clients. Even just creatine alone can give you 2-3 lean pounds in the first month (of extra water). Add in the weight of extra food in your gut. Add in some muscle swelling and extra glycogen storage. That already brings you past 5 pounds in the first month, and you haven't even added in any real muscle growth yet. You have to slow it down as the predicted rate of muscle growth slows. It's only the first couple of months where you can grow that fast.

@joebroohead2 күн бұрын
Ideally you want to keep your fat intake low when bulking, so you’re gaining muscle rather than fat. Depending on your programme, you can either dirty bulk (which focuses on getting on as many calories as possible, protein and fats) or clean bulk, which is low fats, but the correct calories just over maintenance as well as carbs and protein. Dirty bulk makes it harder to drop that fat when you go to cut! But overall, you can do either depending on which you enjoy
