Actually, I have to correct some details of the battle. The second balloon entered a flat spin after being hit, forcing the duelist and his second to eject. The duelist survived, but his second sadly died after his head hit the canopy during ejection. I can't find anything about the second's actual name but I've seen him referred to as "Goose" in several documents. Hope this helps!

The real challenge was Major Ly Bung's massive testicles making the plane over it's landing weight

Yep. Nothing more deadly or unrecoverable than a balloon in a flat spin. Fortunately, the Litho-Braking event at the end cancels out the spin, and then you just have to deal with the flat part.

Hearing this story reminds me of a scene from a 1960s movie called Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, where the leaders of the French and German teams challenged each other to a duel. The challenge was balloons and blunderbusses, and much like this story, it was a duel where they would shoot each other's balloons with blunderbusses. When they fired their guns, the French guy ended up hitting a plane that flew between them and the German scored a hit on the French balloon, causing it to descend. He later ended up poking a hole in his own balloon with the point on his helmet.

Well actually... (Don't you just hate that) The first zeppelins launched by the Germans in WWI performed bombings in England especially over London. The early biplanes could not fly high enough to easily reach them. They also had lousy rates of climb and wouldn't get up to altitude till after the balloon had passed. When they did manage to shoot at them the bullets poked little holes in the hydrogen gas cells but didn't deflate them and the dirigeable made it back to Germany just fine. Then they invented the incendary bullet. Suddenly having hydrogen gas leaking out of your inner balloon to the outer zeppelin covering and mixing with the oxygen in the air presented a slight hazard. Flammable hydrogen go boom zeppelin go crash.

@@fightertales If you do end up covering it, I hope you don’t neglect to mention the fact that despite their airships’ technological superiority, Germany grossly misused their Zeppelin armada for civilian terror bombings, much like the Russians are doing today. British SS and Coastal-class airships enjoyed far more success as sub-hunters, and the Americans used blimps in World War II to such success (>80,000 ships escorted with only one lost, and hundreds of sea rescues) that they continued using them until 1962, then started back up in 2013 with airships like the MZ-3A and Sceye’s new high-altitude platform. It’s a nice tie-in to current events, I think, and it bears repeating as many times as possible that civilian terror bombings aren’t just immoral, they _don’t work._ It only makes the enemy fight back harder.
