The Carnaby 500 is basically a hands on, single channel, tunable, three band harmonic processor. Of course the design is far from basic. With a noise floor of -93dBu bypassed, it would be nice to know the noise floor level with average settings engaged. The fact it can be utilized in a studio or FOH is ideal. As a pair or full rack I feel it would be an excellent mastering tool for the same environments. And it's retail price is reasonable considering it's about what you would expect to pay for a parametric EQ in the 80s. No I don't have the 1980 msrp, just based on memory. Look forward to your hands on review if you get a couple.

It's an fascinating proof of concept as a purely analog device, but who needs this when harmonic EQs have been available as VSTs for years now? The Voxengo HarmoniEQ, for instance, comes at a really affordable €60, and it gives you the graphical user interface for added overview and precision on top. Of course people are going to buy this, but I just cannot see why. Not for the money it is bound to cost. This is like building a racing car with a steam engine to compete with Tesla.

Understand your point about VST plugins having a lot of flexibility and lower cost than hardware - we mention this in this interview in fact! But analogue hardware is still very popular and wins in blind listening tests routinely. Harmonic equalisation using DSP vs genuine analogue saturation with diodes, etc yields very different results. We'd ask you try one for yourself before jumping to such extreme conclusions. Thanks!

OMG this guy talks so much you can’t actually hear what the eq is doing. What harmonics? 2nd order? 3rd? Others? In what freq areas? Can you control the harmonic info independently? What’s the headroom of the device? Did he mention converters? What? it’s analog. But USB. What about the clocking if it’s usb? What about the power supply? Come on man,,, Let’s see if anyone is talking about this eq in 20 yrs. Ever used an Ibis, a MusEQ. Gyraf, Millenia, Undertone, Pultec, Knif etc. ? I would be happy to try one but I suspect it won’t stand up to the big boys. You want harmonic control? Check out a HW Vertigo VSM 2.
