With advancements in VR and AR I feel excited about our future. Maybe this will all advance into a mixture between AR and VR. Like, you could be in a virtual space in VR chat, but you suddenly want privacy, so you invite some of your friends to your place to your place and now you're all there, but in AR for you; VR for the others.

👍😍 Own it for half a year. Pros: It's portability and form factor. It's perfect to watch videos in Bed, with the plastic cap on it you lay comfy in your pillow without disturbing anyone. Cons: FoV still needs an upgrade even though it's good compared to other devices in the market. Compatibility with phones is poor. Even variants of the same phone maybe not supported. Overall - would purchase again.

Great video as always, Cas! I've been working with the Nreal Light Developer Kit since August 2020 and recently upgraded to the retail kit. The field of view is a concern but it's actually a bit larger than some of the other solutions currently on the market. I enjoy the vibrant colors that the glasses offer and it's perfect for consuming content. It's not really great yet for mixed reality mode as there's only a small number of applications available. FarePlay, Figmin XR and the work that mixed.world have been doing really show the potential though for the device. Hand tracking still being in its infancy will also only improve over time.

Hello! I wanted to ask couple questions: 1. Are these glasses a better alternative than to buy a huge tv? Considering that these cost about 500€ and tv's with the same screen size are about 2k-3k€. 2. Is it possible to connect it to pc? 3. Will this kind of technology ruin eyesight quicker than regular monitors? 4. Is it possible to have a sharp image if I have bad eyesight? Thank you in advance, and have a nice day Erik! ^^
@ErikHartley2 жыл бұрын
@@basyki 1. It is hard for me to answer that. In some cases, yes it can be better than a TV but if you're using with your phone to stream content it also impacts battery life which could be as little as 1.5 hours depending on your phone. The vertical field of view is also reduced which may not be optimal for using as a viewscreen. Viewing content is definitely the best use case for now with the Nreal Light and similar devices. 2. Yes but you need to have a computer that supports Display over USB-C or purchase a powered adapter. I have the SIIG HDMI to USB-C port 4K 60hz converter adapter and I can watch and listen to content from my PC. These will NOT work at this point with PC for viewing mixed reality, augmented reality or virtual reality content. 3. No, it's just OLED screens near your eyes. No worse than a smartphone for example. 4. The Nreal Light ships with a frame that you can take to have your prescription lenses fit into.

I just tried hololens for the first time at the d.c. natural history museum . As you mentioned here the field of view is too narrow and takes you off from the immersion. I'm glad there are other competitors but we probably have to wait for a couple of more device generations for it to be mature and ready for prime time. 600 vs 3500 of holo is a huge difference. Hello, First please allow me to say thank you so much for everything you do for our community. You two are so awesome, by the way I love the love between you two. WOW... Back to the video, this was an amazing review as always. With regards to your questions: My Thoughts on AR? I think this will be equally as big as VR and that it's smart for everyone to invest and experience both of these technologies. I don't think one can replace the other. These technologies have their own unique use cases that without a shadow of a doubt will play their own part within our amazing future to come. As I am getting into development of my own projects and idea I know I have some unique developments I want to do in both of these separately. One of my favorite AR uses thus far is the map features and what I think it will do for people who need help navigating in malls, driving/riding a bike anywhere and other map uses. Again I have some ideas that I feel could make these better. Hopefully me and the CorpriA Development Team will be able to bring this to life. My Thoughts on the #NRealLight? As for this amazing piece of tech, I love that they are paving the way for this Technology for the future. This like other pieces of hardware will be forever edged into history as the leading Hardware and Software that made it all possible. I love that you can use it with your sell. I don't like that it's not available on the apple platform. However being on the Android platform allow so much more development options, much more freedom when it come to source code options and more. Many people will be able to develop more use for this tech beyond what the company creating this hardware will be able to do. I feel from the uses I saw you share with us that this has it's own lane and for many people this will be the alternate by of the Oculus and that's so hard for me as I'm a huge fan of this piece of hardware. Would I get an NReal Light? With me being the owner of the Oculus, I don't see any reason to purchase this tech other than to experiment learn more about it and/or maybe develop some software for use of this device to allow this to be able to compare or at least be worth the price that's being listed for this item at this time. Why grab this tech now while it's so new and still being a working progress when there is something like the Oculus which is completely standalone, it allow you to use it as a regular VR headset connected to the PC, It has Android Built into it, It maintains a battery well and there are extended options for power with the Oculus, you have a much large field of view options, and so much more in my option. I will give this to them, you don't have to have a facebook account to have this device which is a plus however this price point is $599 when the Oculus you could use with an app on the apple platform or android platform. So to answer this question, right now I would say it's not worth purchasing at this price especially for the general public. I think as a TechHEAD like myself and others around the internet this would be an awesome addition to our collection of hardware and that it's a great tool to geek out with while it has so much more potential to be so much more and if it got to that level it would be worth the asking price. So right now I would say "No" I wouldn't want to purchase this. I don't like being to limited with my hardware although I feel this hardware won't be limited for too long. Furthermore I'd like to go on and say with just a bit more work and creating something that allows apple users to use this will make though competition for apple as they are planning for their headset to be in the price point area of $1000.00. So with some changes this would more than likely be a better choice for those looking for a bargain to get into this technology and use this cross-platform. One last thing, I'm giving these thought without actually using this device. If I ever get the chance to own this and experiment with this not to mention if me and my team get a wack at the development for this hardware I'm sure most of this comment would be very different. Oh well, I guess this is what it is for now... Thanks, ~Ray and the CorpriA Family.
If you think about it. In 2025 a pair of advanced AR glasses can replace several hi devinition screens in your office or living room with a great FOV, visual quality and performance. From an environmental perspective it´s much better because you need way less resouces manufacturing AR glasses instead of many screens and energy consumption is down as well.

But I had the Oculus DK1 and DK2 before it launched -- but long before that I was using VR in the 90s. This seems closer to where VR as in the 90s as opposed to the DK1, but progress is being made and maybe in a few more years we have something that is consumer ready. It's going to be interesting to see what the Apple AR glasses are like, assuming they ever see a release.
@DanielEckert632 жыл бұрын
Please understand there is a big difference between AR and MR (Mixed Reality - Extended Reality - XR). It has nothing to do with 3DOF or 6DOF tracking - it's about if a object can be anchored to the real word (if your head position changes - the object locks to a physical position in the real world - i.e. it doesn't move with you) These are MR (or XR) glasses - think of them as a poor person's version of a Magic Leap.

Even if the NReal screen covered the whole lenses (including the bottom curves) that's 60 deg fov at best. The only way to get a higher fov is to make the glasses bigger, which robs it from one of it's best features. Plus, this isn't 52 fov on a VR headset 2 inches away from your eyes. The is very close to the eyes and looks much better than you would think. If you ever get a chance to use one, do so it will surprise you.
