Very nice race analysis. That small fall by MVDP turned out to be more costly than it first appeared, as he did some damage to his ribs and hasn't raced since.

8:39 WVA doesn't "lose balance and crash", he runs into the extended arm of a spectator which makes him crash. Bad choice of line allowing Nys to come through and pushing him outside the turn but he wouldn't have gone down without this spectator.

Great coverage of an event which is receiving more and more coverage because of the top professional road superstars who love this discipline and use it to maintain fitness prior to the spring classics. You need more than brute strength and technique to compete in this event, the most important weapon you require is fitness - only the super-fit can compete in this type of event. If you have never tried this event before, and you have a go at it, you will discover very quickly that if you are not super fit on the bike and running in the mud, you will be reduced to walking pace before you have finished two laps. Also, if Mathieu van der Poel has indisputably won every race he has entered absolutely, ("yes") how does that not equate to superiority?
