The First Brood of Midgardsormr as of Endwalker - FFXIV Lore

The First Brood of Midgardsormr are Seven Wyrms that have played major roles in the story of FFXIV.
Since Endwalker is exploring two of them more closely, lets catch-up on the status of each of the first broods membership as of Patch 6.1.

I find it interesting that Midgardsormr wasn’t fully responsible for raising Vrtra. Azdaja being both his older sister and protector is quite endearing.

Makes you wonder what he was up to after the first six hatched for him not to be in a position to look after his last egg. But yes, the fact she cared for him and kept his egg warm is heartwarming :)

My WoL story intertwines with Midgarsormr and the first brood, having the Father of all Dragons essentially replace the Blessing of light when they first meet in Silvertear Lake before the beginning of Heavensward, and later transfering his power over to my WoL before he goes to sleep, kinda like how it happened with Estinein and Nidhogg. I'm still wishing for the day when he can return and we can interact with him again, even though there is a very silm chance of that actually happening. Still, nice to revisit the lore for the dragons. Thank you for the refresher.

yessss i love the first brood!! im sure the real bahamut didn't actually look like the primal but i think it'd be funny if he did and just. looked weird compared to the rest of his family. i thiiiiink tiamat says they're going home post paglthan? but im not sure. also i didn't consider that she mightve actually helped get the scales, but i suppose they did have to actually go and get them at some point 🤔 also aymeric mentions before we meet gaius in endwalker that there were reports of tiamat fighting the teleophroi (icr how its spelled rn). i wish you'd mentioned ratatoskr's brood too! because personally i didn't even know she had one until i did ehll tou's deliveries! i love how cranky hraesvelgr is. he really just shows up at the end of omega, tells us he has daddy issues, then says "STOP calling me" and flies the fuck away. if he wasn't a huge majestic dragon he'd be a dweeb VRTRA MY BELOVED he's honestly one of my favorite characters post endwalker and im so happy to help him. also i think you repeated a line there in the video honestly i wish it had been migardsormr that had helped us in ultima thule and i will die on this hill!! someone came up with the idea that zenos' growth could be realizing that we wouldn't want his help, and instead going to get someone who's help we'd accept (and then giving the rest of the mothercrystal to migardsormr). it'd be a neat way to have an original inhabitant of one of the dead stars the meteia went to come back to challenge her. also have you seen that really cute comic dramatizing vrtra asking mids for his scales? its soooo cute 😭

I'm 90% sure that they are correct. While the image was never captioned, Ratatoskr's horns go forward and Bahamut's likely go back so the images should have been correct when judged against other peoples breakdown of that image. Do you have a confirmed source cause for the life of me I never found one.

Its from a series of short stories written and published on the FFXIV Lodestone. They tie up alot of the story that the game quests do not. Search for "FFXIV Tales From The Shadows", the story in question is called "An Unpromised Tomorrow" They are a great read :)

Love the lore surrounding the first brood! But... i find something very strange after finishing the lvl 80 dragoon quest back in shadowbringers day. During the quest the character talk about the time of peace before the dragonsong wat. What i find strange is when talking about ratatoskr and nidhogg, they describe her as "nidhogg's beloved" and "his beloved". The only time a dragon has refered to another as their beloved was romantically. Hraesvelgr refers to shiva as his beloved, and so does tiamat with bahamut. Vrta on the other hand never refered to his sister azdaja as his beloved. Does this mean that nidhogg and ratatoskr had a far more intimate relationship than just siblings? Then what about tioman who was said to be nidhogg's consort?

Dragons in general are very strange in FFXIV. Vytra mentioned this in 6.1. Varshahn: We dragons are not “male” or “female” as men are wont to classify, but “elder sister” is the closest a mortal tongue can come to describing what she meant to me.

still expansions to come probably we will find it out. Since they actually brought Dragon lore back up 3 expansions later everything is possible.

At this point half of them are gone and the only ones left are Tiamat Hresvelgr and Vritra. Azdaja will most like become Golbez's iconic Shadow Dragon, meaning she's as good as dead already. Nidhogg's dead, the original Bahamut is dead and Ratatoskr is dead. And the sad part is when we should get an echo flashback of their physical appearance and what they looked like we don't

I would love to see what they looked like. We only have that one art piece to go by. I hope Azdaja gets redeemed at the end, but it is likely as you say she is likely to be Shadow Dragon and thus we will have to defeat her along with Golbez.
