But here is one of their most infamous projects, with gave rise to The Ultima Weapon!

I always thought Arch Ultima was just the first prototype by the Garleans to start the Weapons Project.

Precisely. It was implied it was the beginning of the weapons project, as not only were they trying to reverse engineer ultima, they needed a way to mimic the Heart of Sabik. They tried melding machine with the ‘pilot’, but it was unsuccessful, as we saw. (we saw this scene prior to the unlock of werlyt). This would lead to using artificial auricite in place of the Heart of Sabik, and Oversoul to draw on the aetheric energy of the pilot. But all these were creations of the Garleans, not remnants from Allag.

I will note some of Allag’s creations uses a system similar to the synthetic auracite system. Like with the Diablos Armament. They copied the data for Diabolos into that chimerical vessel instead of having the actual Diabolos. But then again the Weapons project was reverse engineered from a lot of Allag’s stuff so overlap shouldn’t be out of the question.

It's possible Arch Ultima was the stepping stone between Ultima Weapon and the weapons from the Sorrow of Werlyt trial series. IMO they tried replicating Ultima Weapon before coming up with unique weapon designs... though we don't know TOO much about Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/Diamond weapon so maybe they were Allagan Weapons too? Great video anyway!

I understood it as Arch Ultima being a pre-cursor to the other Weapons (not including Ultima); based off of Ultima; and the other weapons being largely Garlean designs inspired by Ultima, rather than them being precursors of Ultima repurposed.

I would have assumed the same, given it did try to merge a pilot with the Weapon like the future ones. However the fact it so closely resembles Ultima Weapon had me considering other origins.

I certainly hope so. Diabolos was powerful but not nearly top tier. Maybe one day we will see Armaments based off the first rung.

I have proto ultima as a modded mount. Best design ever. Seeing as the weapons are call back to FF7 i hope we see Jade Weapon somewhere or even Omega Weapon in Meracydia. Great video 10/10!

Weapons have been around before FFVII. With Omega making an appearance in FFV, and Atma/Ultima Weapon and even Proto Armor; which is a precursor to Ultima Weapon showing up in FFVI.

Do you think it’s a good thing Estinien fought Arch Ultima? Even as a prototype, it’s nothing to scoff at. Most soldiers even in a unit couldn’t fight that thing let alone a single person. Estinien was able to destroy it solo I believe due to his training and draconic power as an Azure Dragoon, not to mention his weapon and armor were anointed in the blood of Nidhogg and Ratatoskr’s breath respectively.

Must the dungeon bosses backgrounds and lore be in the encyclopedia? If WoW did something right about lore, it's the dungeon journal containing the lore bits and drops about bosses and places, so you don't end up going to somewhere or fighting someone without knowing who they're. We seriously need that in FFXIV (As I really didn't know about the Prototype #4 and #6 backgrounds prior to this video)

If Proto Ultima did want to end itself, does that mean the Ultima Weapons have some conscious thought and how did they gain it or was it there the whole time?

Do you remember the heart of Sabik? This mechanism did the same thing that the Garleans recreated later with those experiences of merging the individual with the machine that we saw in the story of Gaius and his adopted children.

Imo it was an AI that gained some semblance of a consciousness over the 1000+ years it was in Azys La, and wanted to end its own suffering on its own terms

That soundtracks name is called "Brave Story" from the tactics series. It plays in FFXIV during the Ivalice questline.
