Many are asking, is The First Descendant pay to win or not? My experience with The First Descendant gameplay has been largely positive, but I do have criticisms and concerns about the monetization. I don’t really understand how people aren’t seeing the whole mod cap thing being as a full blown pay wall. Not a micro transaction. You will literally have to pay money to do enough damage to progress in the game. Someone please tell me if I missing something but that seems so be how it’s going to work.

Don't get me wrong here, I have no love for nexon. But specifically when it comes to the Module capacity increases, while yes those who buy the 100$ ultimate descendant packs get the capacity increases for free, you can absolutely grind out and research the capacity increases without spending money. It's pay for convenience but nothing more. It just takes a free to play player longer to get the same thing, but you are NOT forced to buy them.

So how about this with winning against other players: Raids or difficult dungeons come out, and the party leader has to choose between me and the guy who bought all the ultimates. Assuming all our other achievements are equivalent, who gets picked in this scenario?

It reminds me of the Warframe PtW discussion whit regards to new frame and new top preforming ear. If your coming in from the bottom of the game at the start then yes the grind can be insufferable if you not getting to top performance first. So we kind of have to wait for the bulk of the player base to get to sort of max level and start maxing out their list before we can really address how bad the pay to skip is.

But warframe is a pure PvE game, theres no PvP, its a coop game, not a competitive game, so buying power in a PvE environment actually helps other ppl, theres nothing to win in a coop game

I don’t think this is “Pay-to-Win”, because as a casual, I’m not trying to make money on making content. I reserve that for already established creators, who can provide the truly deserved extent of info service.

I just recently started warframe and you don’t even start with the color black. I always go either red and black or white and black but I can’t unless I pay for it.

Dude there are in-game color palettes to earn and also free ones you can grab whenever theres a holiday event, but yeah, every warframe player knows that fashion is endgame. I think the void trader that appears every two weeks also offers some through in game special currency called ducats. You just got to keep loggin in and checking. Once u get a few they loose importance because theres so many and you basically just need one palette with a good black and white, lol.

Man it was hard to let helldivers 2 go for now, but I'll be back once the game is more stable. Even we got some new ship upgrades today but im still Traumatized from recent patches breaking different ship upgrades. I'll wait for more updates and a content drop

I actually bought helldivers 2 recently, and man the game is buggy as hell. Was fun for a while but they def need to fix the bugs and add a lot more content for people to come back.

The only reason I would by an ultimate skin is for the automatic 4 polarity slots - if not you are forced to “prestige, forma, re-rank” your character 2 times. On top of GRINDING for the catalyst you need to re-rank / add a polarity slot. Crazy.

PvE can be 100% pay to win. PvE pay to win comes in the form of playable content you need money to access or difficulty spikes that can only be over come by buying some in game item. I have yet to see that in the First Descendant. However when it comes to free to play games, the developer will make sure the honeymoon phase is just long enough to get you invested in playing long term.

The First Descendant is “Pay to Skip Grind” exactly like Warframe. Pay to Skip is not the same as Pay to Win. Another reason it’s not Pay to win is cause it’s strictly a PvE only game, much like Warframe is.

The game is not competitive so i wouldnt consider this pay to win just more microtransactions in a FREE game

Power creep is another potential issue with new Descendants potentially outclassing the Descendants that are released seasons prior. You can argue there's a snapshot of that already considering any Descendent besides the free ones are a bit OP for the main campaign. Sure, there's difficulty options to mitigate that currently, but potential power creep is still something to consider. I still see it as a game to jump into from time to time because it can be enjoyable and the characters are aesthetically appealing. Their personalities/voice acting are a bit wooden, though.

Power creep does not matter in these sorts if games, division 2 , warframe, 1st descendents but the devs over time will bring out more difficult content that nullifies it

@@God-of-all-monsters If it's for the sake of getting people to spend money, it's not something to rule out...especially if the 'Ultimate Descendants' don't sell as well as expected. There are routes they could take to further encourage spending. I mean, this is Nexon.

@@God-of-all-monsters There are gamers who are willing to pay to skip the grind in order for immediate gratification. Such gamers are present in a plethora of games, especially games like this one. Imagine if a sick-looking, top tier Descendant were to drop tomorrow. A Descendant that is aesthetically more appealing and seemingly more fun to play than the Descendant a player is currently using. You've those who would spend money to get that Descendant right away.

I said it before but yea I stopped playing destiny may of 2023 and it was the best gaming decision of my life. I have platted so many games, elden ring, bloodborne, ff rebirth, alan wake 2, prince of persia, stellar blade, Diablo 4, dragons dogma 2 and a few more... It's been so amazing to not care about that game any longer, I been having a blast. And so far liking first descendant also, seems like a fun game to dabble and see where it goes

it's not good enough to be a primary looter if you already play Destiny but as a secondary it's way easier to get into than Warframe and feels better too. It does everything Warframe does but it's more streamlined whereas in Warframe every time they added content or made changes the original bloat mess is still there and you have to navigate around it. I actually started to enjoy the game more when I muted the voice dialogue and music then just played Nier Automata OST in the background. The enemy A.I is dumb, every mission plays out the same with the same mechanics over and over which gets boring in long periods of playtime because the level design is generic. The large bosses are cool but the environment arenas are even worse in those than it is throughout the game. I have the toxic girl crafting at the moment and outside of that I'm not sure what will hold my interest because her gameplay was the only reason I tried the game. I also never liked how weightless your character is in Warframe, it made it feel like you're playing as the crosshair rather than a character, TFD has a nice weight to it.

How is this pay to win when it's not pvp and if I'm doing all the killing you would still get all the rewards drop, theirs going to be whales in every game let 5hem enjoy the way they want to play, you could just skip the game if you have soft feeling on what someone else is going to have

Pay 2 win is sorely to do with pvp games , pay 2 win does not exist when it comes to pve games , that's fact . I find the game more pay to skip , it's like warframe where yes u can skip stuff and make your life easier but you can farm everything in game , people are impatient . When was the last time a game had a smooth launch that was a live service game ? Destiny 2 , 10 years down the line has way more issues than a game that's been out for 48s plus , take final shape day 1 10 hour day 1 issues but no gives that game hell like I seen people give first descendents

People use 'Pay to win' as an encompassing term to cover things like pay to progress, or pay for convenience. It's pretty common.

It takes around 50-60 hours to grind the materials for each descendant, its definitely a grind, but its PvE so its pay to skip grind, theres nothing to win

you grind 50-60 hours to get certain achievements but someone can pay certain amount and catch up to you within a second, thats totally fine with you

Theres no PvP, theres nothing to win, whether you grind or pay your still doing the exact same content, its more like pay to skip grind but i wouldn't call that winning, its a coop game not a competitive game
