Glad to see that it all paid off. The MKVIII has a great chassis and it is good at covering ground. Mine does 600 miles through France once a month and it is a joy on a long trip.

I agree on the gears, I had the 1.6 naturally aspirated mk7 and could drive in 3rd gear for almost all types of junctions, roundabouts and tight bends, when moving to the mk7.5 turbo 1.0 I noticed I was downshifting at every bloody small loss of speed but am used to it now.

You described exactly the difference I experienced between a Puma mild hybrid 1.0L 155ps and my Puma ST 1.5L 200ps. The ST just has a lot more torque and you don’t have to keep changing down a gear. It just seems to pull in what ever gear it’s in.

Hi Mike, just binged watch all your videos about the 1.0 ecoboost and was up till 2am and just watched this one this morning (+subbed) I have seen a few other videos and asked about the problem we have at the moment but no answers back at all, but I got a Love your comment! heart.. great :) anyway I`m old school and was doing old Pinto engines and 10 + years ago the 2ltr cosworth engines, I converted a 1.6 pinto saph azura into a 380bhp cossy crazy thing, but thats another story and dont want to bore everyone. So my little story I bought a 1.0 125ps mk3 titanium 2012 for my son to mess about with as he`s going to collage soon "he`s 16" , Previous owner went out in it and everything was fine, then all of a sudden it just stopped, engine died and would not start again. Was towed it back home and started to try different things to why it will not start. We have fuel from low pressure as can hear the pump prime also unbolted the high pressure pipe to make sure fuel was getting to the pump, that was fine.. We did get a low pressure rail code and changed the hi pressure sensor, did nothing! but the code didnt come back!. Then we took one of the spark plugs out to make sure there was spark.. and yes its fine. We are going to take off the high pressure pump and swap it with my one that works as I have the same car just newer 2016 just to try and find a reason for it not to start (update as from today 12/6/2023 the pump didnt fit as it uses a different connector from the low pressure line) . Also just a piece of mind took the rocker cover off to make sure the belt was ok and at least still in place to make sure the cams were ok.. they move :) I know the high pressure pump is driven by the cam so hopefully when we take it off the cams not in 2 parts (updated as 12/6/23 Cams are fine the lobe on the end of the cam is like a double egg shape and pushes the piston up and down to operate the hi pressure fuel pump, that was fine), then Ill know the reason the pump was not working. When the car is cranking you do smell fuel so its coming from somewhere. Its strange how one minute it was running then just stopped with no error codes. Now it has no codes but just not starting.. totally baffled..! as from today its got spark,fuel & air, no codes ? I not got many of my tools from back then as change my hobbies like the wind due to attention disorder so give them away. Im now looking to buy the compression tester to see if we have any problems with that but we have no leaks and the water is still at correct level. Sorry to waffle on but looking at all the help you gained and more knowledge you found out someone on your channel might give some other ideas what to test and check next. cheeRS Lee...
@MendItModIt Жыл бұрын
Could be injector related, I doubt it but worth a quick check, when cranking you want to listen for the clicking noise they make. Make sure 1) you can heard it at all, 2) it’s rhythmic, not all over the place. Screwdriver trick works a treat to hear them clearly. If you have air, fuel and spark then it’s either going to be a compression issue, or timing. A cheap compression test is where I would start. As for timing, IF the wrong oil has been used it could have degraded the belt to the point where it’s skipped/missing a few teeth. It may not have snapped but could have shifted out of time. All speculation on my part, I’m not a mechanic but that’s just what I’d be looking for based on what I’ve learned about these engines. Good luck!
@rs2klee Жыл бұрын
@@MendItModIt Thanks for the reply... yeah, can hear the injectors click away, also I was also thinking timing so possible the belt, also ordered a compression test kit so will see what it is, we took the air box off and when its cranking you can see fuel mist coming out the pipe! i`m thinking "weird" only way is to have a strip down and see if we can view the belt better to see any mashed teeth on the belt at all. Just hope if it has jumped a tooth or 2 that its not killed any of the valves as im sure this is an interference engine!?... I forgot to ask though, how did you get on with the white smoke, did it just clear after a run ?

These engines do build boost much lower, it's just the turbo lag is crazy below about 2300 rpm. I regularly drive back roads in 4th gear around 40-45 mph (1800-2100 rpm) and I use the turbo to climb hills without shifting down. I just have to open the throttle a lot (not quite WOT) a few seconds before I really start climbing the hill so the turbo can spool up. I also tend to go through round-a-bouts in 3rd, so long as I don't have to slow down for other cars.

Love to see this car coming together! One quick question, how did you go about getting the auto locking feature to work? I enabled it within forscan back when I retro fit cruise control and a set of folding mirrors to my mk7, but it doesn't seem to work. Did you do anything else other than just enabling it in Forscan? Thanks for the quality content as always👍

How many gears are on your Fiesta ST and the Fiesta Mk7? I drive 150 HP EcoBoost Focus with 6 gears for forward plus reverse as seventh and my Focus requires me to shift much more often than my naturally aspirated Fiesta Mk 5 does, but my Fiesta Mk5 only has 5 gears for forward plus reverse. My Focus actually requires me to shift gears every additional 20 km/h. For instance, first gear is up to at least 20 km/h, second gear is up to at least 40 km/h, third gear isup to at least 60 km/h, fourth is up to at least 80 km/h, fifth is up to at least 100 km/h and sixth for the rest of the speed range. Everytime I reach additional 20 km/h, the reminder to upshift lights up. Of course I can keep the current gear a little over the additional 20 km/h especially if I am in the higher gears despite the engine making louder noise, but the upshift indicator lights up at every additional 20 km/h, maybe even earlier than 20 km/h. What I've realized is that it effortlessly takes up the next gear if I at least reach additional 20 km/h in the current gear.

This car boosts from quite low. I think 1400rpm. It can pull from those revs but there is a bit of lag. Mine is 0 tax but it's the 100ps version. Might get it remapped at some point though

Can’t comment much on mk7 but I absolutely love the mk8 st line and it has shocked plenty at the track. It’s now mapped to around 155hp and it’s a crazy difference over stock. Will demolish a mk6 ST and you’ll easily push an EP3 civic down a straight in it. The one down side to the mk7 is the gearbox. That 5 speed they used is absolute dog shit. The gearing is stupid long and it’s made of chocolate. A lot of people convert over to the IB6 from the ST180 but it’s a whole gearbox plus clutch and flywheel to do it.
@gamesmaster1060 Жыл бұрын
The gearbox seems to be luck of the draw, I heard people have no issues, even with a remap. Whereas other people arnt so lucky. I was planning on remapping mine and if it does go pop I might go for the coversion kit to the focus gearbox. The long gearing I find fun sometimes but for city driving it can be akward
@RosskoPeeko Жыл бұрын
@@gamesmaster1060 it was the same with the IB5 in the mk6 ST. They were chocolate as well but end of the day, it’s all down to how it’s driven. If you are power shifting and not properly rev matching gears then you’ll destroy most boxes. The biggest issue is how long the gear are in the 5 speed.
@eoghanmacdonald Жыл бұрын
Surely “destroy” is a bit of an exaggeration considering the mk8 weighs more and is larger than the mk6, the mk8 must have a major torque advantage which would make sense but “destroy” seems a bit extreme.
@RosskoPeeko Жыл бұрын
@@eoghanmacdonald certainly not an exaggeration. Stock for stock the st line still walks away from a mk6 st down a straight and is considerably faster round bends as well. Once mapped it’s even faster. The mk8 st is just worlds apart even more especially with the LSD as stock. A mk6 st feels like a zetec S in comparison to a mk8 st round the track. The mk6 is now only competitive on track with money thrown into them. Engine upgrades, brakes and suspension.
@eoghanmacdonald Жыл бұрын
@@RosskoPeeko yes the mk8 st is worlds apart agreed, but the st line?? Heavier, less power and less torque, slower 0-60 and slower top speed? And even the mhev with 155hp is still slower in a straight line and probably heavier than the 140 due to the electric motor. A mapped example is different because they deliver their power differently and are likely to have much more torque than stock but an unmodified 1.0T ecoboost mk8 will absolutely struggle to keep up with an st150 in a straight and round the bends.
