And now I’m crying, me and my mom watched this show from the first episode till now and even after I moved out and started a family of my own we would talk the next day about the episode the night before. My mother died at 60 years old last month and it’s been something that I miss terribly. The song that he sings at the end is one my mom sang to me as a baby and always sang in the house. She also sang it her grandchildren every time she was around. I miss her terribly and will be watching the archives next year thinking about her every day. Thank you to anyone who read my emotional rant.

Thank you for sharing your story, having a shared experience with a loved one is a truly magical thing. My equivalent would be a Irish/British sitcom called Father Ted whose titular character died tragically young of sudden illness much like my father with whom I watched and treasured the show and others written by the show's creator Graham Linehan. Conan is truly the only Late night show I can stand these days.

@Mike Studmuffin , from wikipedia: After seven years with the show, Richter departed from Late Night after the show on May 26, 2000. He later said of the decision, "After seven years of being on the show, I got itchy. I have a philosophy that if you enjoy good fortune, rather than sit there and say, 'Oh, that's fine, this amount is good enough for me,' you should try and push it. You should see how much you can stretch your good fortune. And I was curious."

@Mike Studmuffin No, he did leave. Andy wanted to springboard into an acting career, but unfortunately, that never worked out for him. Andy was originally hired because NBC didn't want Conan to just jump in solo (since he'd only been a writer and never had a role as magnified as this).

@@guitaria66636 I don't hate Fallon, he seems nice and is a pretty talented dude but his show just annoys me - cheap low-brow entertainment relying on celebrities' reactions to playing parlour games. Even he himself is pretty cringey with the constant forced laughter and upstaging (just watch him doing hot wings with Selena Gomez or Miley Cyrus singing Bodak Yellow for major Fallon cringe). Although his writers come up with some pretty decent monologue jokes from time to time

I always found it really funny that the critics of this show complained about Conan O'Brien being nervous in this episode - did they really expect him to just casually walk in and be totally in control during his very first "Late Night" episode, when he by the way was also expected to immediately be as good as David Letterman? NOBODY is NOT nervous in that kind of situation.
