If the US does not get this, VW is crazy. This and the Ionic 5 N are what is needed to continue to make EV vehicles more mainstream. The ID.GTI could dominate the sporty EV market if they can get it here soon. It would most likely win on price.

While I hear you, GTIs usually sell for a premium. I suspect this will be closer to Lyriq prices. I'd be amazed if it sells for less than 42k. The Volvo EX30 will deliver comparable acceleration (not sure about overall performance) for way less. However, it's just a beefy and sexy'fide ID2. And VW claim they've found the formula for cheap mass produced EVs with the 2. So I'm hoping I'm way off. I'm surprised you're not sticking around to see what Ultium Bolt brings to the table. Could be Equinox motor, bigger power output with Ultium battery 🤔

As for the Ultium Bolt vs the ID.2 GTI, I will buy whichever one actually makes it to production and is available in NA. If VW doesn't want to play ball, I'll most likely get the Ultium Bolt.

@prerunnerwannabe 30k for petrol version, but you have to add EV premium. The Pear from Fisker may also be another sleeper car. We know the intended pricing, which is going right after Bolt customers. Aesthetically and functionally, the Pear seems like the better buy, especially with 6 seat option on that Ocean width chassis. I'm not holding my breath on the GTI 2. Even if they do bring it, it'll be niche market priced, with zero EV incentives.

Also, my car feels really small and sometimes unnoticeable since every bad driver and their grandmothers are now driving unnecessarily big trucks and SUV’s. I think it’s time I consider making the switch, unfortunately. At least I’ll be able to get my bike in and out a little easier I guess

I love this so much! Hoping it does arrive to the US. I've owned an MKV GTI, which is my favorite FWD car. For those complaining about front-wheel drive, the GTI has always been a FWD car. This electric version could have been RWD since there's no drive shaft and engine placement, but to keep in the spirit and tradition of the GTI, they made it FWD. I like it!

Vw won't bring the id2 to the states because people will not pay three times as much for the gti version. That's why they stopped bringing the standard golf to the states because a gti was twice as much and an R was three times as much as the standard golf.

Don't come at me with one off bs stories about someone who got lucky enough to not have to change a battery. And even then, how much has their range gone down from constant recharging. As someone who has owned 10+ VW/Audi products, including a 2012 Golf TDI, 2012 GTI, and 2016 GTI all purchased new (and have a B9 S4 as my current daily): PLEASE BRING THIS TO NORTH AMERICA! Msn had an article where Schafer mentioned 30k+ euros to start target, production is slated for late 2026 and first deliveries in early 2027. Another channel autofuegel says sources have it around 220-240 miles of wltp range due to more power,the big wheels&aero drag. I'm with you on price. When it comes out it'll be 50% above the reg id.2. Gti model's are always expensive and always low volume. First year production will be low, lots of demand and dealers ripping people off for them ie standard operating car sales procedures. 😑

Its a concept. The real production vehicle will look significantly different, as in, it will be uglier as they have to meet various safety standards, road rules/policies in various countries and thus would have to change the design. If the car looks mostly the same, it would sell like hot cakes.

This is an amazing car that will take the company to the next level. I never liked the GTI because it was too noisy and fossil, it was the representation of too much money and less brain, but now with this GTI EV I can certainly see this in the future and fun to drive. Finally the smaller cars are getting electric and getting to the sensible prices. This might be an MG4 killer, if MG4 gets super popular before this starts production. MG4 had the standard models, and it also has the XPower model which seems sportier than GTI on first look.

This is a superb design for a first time all-electric GTI! Absolutely blows the MK8 GTI/R’s design out of the water. The wheels and wide fender arches are so good looking! The rear end and spoiler fit it perfectly! The front end is super aggressive looking! I want one right now! I would totally trade my MK7 GTI 6spd in for this, to use as my daily! Now, that would obviously depend on the specs of tel he car, such as range. I currently can get over 400 miles on one tank, in my highly modified MK7 GTI, on a road trip. So, the range on this EV GTI would really need to be good, especially knowing EV’s are very modifiable, power wise. So what you get is what you’re stuck with, which is one of the main letdowns for me in EV purchasing. But this EV GTI looks so good, that I would consider being fine with that, given it’s fun, practice, and sporty enough stock. Please bring this to the USA! It would sell like hot cakes…depending on the price of course!

Except it's a concept and we all know concept designs never make it to final production. It might take design queues from the concept but i highly doubt it will actually look like this. Either way, it's a complete shame this is even a thing. VW is failing hard and has laid off 1000's of workers in their EV plants. No one is buying these things yet they keep pushing this EV agenda. Electric cars are a massive scam and not any better for the environment than ICE powered vehicles. These are cheaper than Teslas, but who buys Teslas? The upper middle class or rich people. No sensible person who just needs a car to get from point A to point B is going to spend 60k+ to "save the planet" or can even afford it in the first place. The ID.4 in Canada is 50k CAD. Which is 15k more than a Tiguan. ID.3 in Europe is 40k Euros. Don't even want to know how much this ID.GTI will be in Europe if the existing GTI is 50k Euros. What incentive do people really have to buy electric, im talking the masses when they can get the same job done for half the price. There's a reason Jetta's and Honda civics are popular. they're low on emissions, cheap to fix and are affordable. If you ask me, the GTI is dead with this model. No manual, no spirit, it's all gone. GTI's have been GTI's because of the charm, practicality, price point and fun they provide. Also one of the few remaining iconic manual sports cars in the world. VW is throwing that away to fuel the EV bs. This ID.GTI is just an empty shell of what the GTI used to be, exactly like their current concept.

First Electric Car I’ve seen that would get me to swap over. I have a Mk7 currently. Assuming the production version looks like this, and drives like a GTI, I am in. PLEASE bring this to US market!!

Having owned a GTi, manual transmission, I love this design! Well, except the steering wheel. I'm with you, it should be as closer to a circle as possible.
