The buzz about Ford's Eluminator EV Crate Motor package is growling louder than a den of hissing cobras, and people want to know what it takes to install one in their favorite ICE chassis. Look no further.
Our guys, Nate Stewart, Nate Winn, and Jose Martinez, took the experience learned from our development on the Testang and created the first Eluminator-swapped car in the country! Internally nicknamed Judith, she's a beautiful example of what's possible with the Eluminator, and keeps it pure with Ford Electric Power packaged in the iconic S197 Mustang GT chassis.

I have a question about this build if you're able to help. I'm potentially planning a similar build with the Eluminator motor. Outside of the motor and Tesla subframe, what's getting the power to the wheels? Mach-E hub, axles, knuckles, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Love the build!

This is a nice edition to the testang. I also liked roadstercycles 2nd tesla ev swapped s197 he used a model 3/y drive unit in. Lighter cheaper and more easily sourced now that over 2,500,000 model 3&y have been made since 2017. I'd like to see someone make that setup as a bolt in solution along with aem/Holley high voltage ev swap parts to support the swap. With well over 1,200,000 total s197s made? I bet if something like that could be made as a true bolt in ev swap? Maybe with a custom front k tubular member for the epas and to fit a decent sized battery pack underhood? That could be the ticket for those wanting to keep a mustang with all modern safety features, comfort options plus retain decent tuneability for brakes, wheels, suspension parts, aero kits etc. 🤔

Not with the pieces used. It's plenty QUICK enough for almost everyone and it'll get over 100mpgE doing it - engineer your own pieces if it's not quick enough, and learn the difference between "fast" and "quick".

Updated: The Eluminator is a transverse drivetrain and requires independent suspension. A 4x4 Bronco had a longitudinal drivetrain and solid axles. The Eluminator is not compatible with a longitudinal arrangement. To make an all-wheel drive vehicle, you’d use two separate Eluminators - one in front and one in back - but the back would require independent suspension. But there is no adapting the Eluminator to a transmission because it already has its own gear reduction built inside of it. We are running a Cascadia Motion motor through the factory transfer case on our Pinzgauer project. The motor's output shaft connects to the t-case in the same fashion that a driveshaft from a transmission does. We've been too busy to get back on it, but will get back on that as soon as we can. @@AEMpowerTVelectronics Wouldn't it be possible to fabricate something to connect to just one side of the eluminator into the transmission (I'm thinking about this for a 65 Mustang). For the not-so-on-board-yet crowd, you'd be sacrificing simplicity for traditionality of driving experience.

Really excited about the eluminator but... since it's up to the user to figure out controls for it and possibly put it into classic cars that never had ABS or traction control I'm surprised there's no mechanical LSD feature in it.

For some reason I thought this was a drop-in under-the-hood replacement for a gas motor (in addition to having to find a spot for the batteries, of course). I'm a little disappointed now. I have a '70s Ford that I wanted to plop one of these into some day without a lot of fuss. Still a neat thing, just not what I thought it was.

That's awesome, an electric steering rack instead of a electric hydraulic pump like on most conversions. Does the VCU200 have much control over this rack? Now all you need is an electric brake booster like the bosch ibooster.

It's already very spirited, so yes, it would be a monster with a dual motor setup! We look forward seeing someone do a dual-motor Eluminator swap. Supporting two Eluminators would be much easier battery-wise than, say, supporting two Tesla drive units because they only draw 625 Amps, so combined that’s ~1200 Amps. Two Eluminators are basically equivalent to one Sport LDU. The real difficulty is the mechanical work to make a car that’s normally rear-wheel drive also be front-wheel drive. The ability to run two motors is dependent upon the amperage draw of the motors you use. While there really isn’t a battery that’s appropriate for supporting 2200-2600 Amps required to run two Tesla LDUs, for example, the kWh capacity of the battery (size of the tank) does not determine the discharge current capacity (analogous to fuel pump flow).
