Funny how this book starts out with Laura, already engaged, saying she didn't want to marry a farmer. Kind of a jolt for the reader.

The cows frozen in the blizzard would have been butchered back then. There was really nothing wrong with the meat as it was frozen.

In that book, only the cows' mouths and noses were frozen. When Pa got their heads up they all ran off.
