It's a heavy screw driver for low torque applications. I could turn this tiny screw a dozen times or as my fingers are strong enough to impart that energy in one quick flick, I could do one movement and let the inertia of the brass mass do the rest. That's my understanding from the ad at the end.

3:58 "This took like on and a half months" ... Just prototyping on the 3D printer. This is why people give up. They see videos like this and miss that one bit (if it's included at all) and think it should take a day or a few days max. Then when it doesn't, they think they must just have a really bad idea or they did something wrong and so they give up. If they have realistic expecatations of the amount of time it takes to do, I think people would be making a lot more, and choose their projects maybe a little mroe carefully.

@@lolatmyage You don't have to worry about tool wear, production quality tooling comes with wear specifications, you replace them on a schedule. Modern CNC production really truly does not need an expert machine operator, all the expertise (and there is lots of it) happens before production. You start the production run knowing exactly how much stock you will use, exactly how many tools and how often to replace them, and how much waste there will be in your raw materials. Without unknowns the pricing is less risky and when costs like tool wear are quantified in the job then you have less general overhead cost. If Giaco did his homework right, and made his desired profit on his $6k kickstarter goal, with 50+ times that his per piece price will drop and he will come out of it with a nice bit of money to roll into his next idea.

@@kaisersose5549 There are some practical applications I can already see. Long and high thread count screws for example, I can see it saving alot of time and effort when I need to disassemble and reassemble stuff that use loads of those, especially when it's too delicate to use powered drivers (and with tightly threaded screws that's usually the case). Looking like a work of art doesn't hurt much either.

I normally use a bigger driver or a powered drill for my projects but I could not resists this work of art. I'm getting mine more for a shelf display piece than anything and maybe put it to use ever 5 years or so to celebrate building a new PC.

The thought process for iterative design and minimum viable product are standards under the Scrum product development system. It's really popular with application development, but this video is a really great example of how it applies to any product. Really great job!

It would be alot easier on that CNC if you drilled before parting it off. Then when you want to do production you can use the part off as a stop for the rest of your material & cut way more in one go

Hey Giaco- good to see you keeping well. I absolutely love your approach & your process, and would buy a driver like that in a heartbeat...if I had any money or a job, which I don't any more (thanks very much, Covid :( ) ..... still, its something to aim for, and I look forward to the time when I can grab cool toys from cool makers once more. Stay safe, man .

I bought one, waited… well over a year, and it finally arrived. I regret NOTHING. The Kinetic Driver is a masterpiece of minimalist engineering. It is an icon of irreducible complexity. It is my favorite tool. I use it constantly. And on top of all that, it has become a weird kind of status symbol amongst my geek associates. Three people I know personally, irl… all know of Giacomo via YT, and were visibly shocked, impressed & maybe a little envious that i had acquired this limited run object of their desire. I’m not typically a materially competitive person, but i can kind of see why so many of us spend so much on cars and watches.
