Happy New Year to all fellow horse lovers. I’m a bit late watching this video but I think that horse with the upside down hoof number is Javelin. Wouldn’t swear to it but the small jagged blaze looks familiar. It amazes me that people complain that the horses are “standing.” It’s what horses do. They’re flight animals so they only lay down if they feel completely safe. They have a locking mechanism in their legs so they can sleep standing up, If they do lay down for REM sleep it’s only for a short time - they’re heavy so laying down can cause respiratory and digestive problems. Do they think once the horses get back to the stables they kick their shoes off and settle into a comfy armchair with a G & T. No they don’t - they stand. I know the horses are “desensitised” to noise but they have their limits - not the best idea to have a combination of loud noises and crowds of tourists in a relatively confined space. It’s difficult to gauge how a horse will react to an object. I’ve had horses who would totally ignore something they see as they pass but would react completely differently when seeing the same thing through the other eye on the way back. A horse is a prey animal, their eyes act independently and each side of their brain works separately allowing them to see two things at once - so their reaction can also be different depending on which eye is seeing an object. Especially if it’s moving cos a moving object can be a threat.

If the Raffles Marketing Team and GM are smart people, of which they would be among the best, they would have set up the stands with support of corporate sponsorship and invited their guests, VIPs, major clients, etc. attend, perhaps with a pre and post parade event. Perfect position to do many good things.

Oh wow thank you John, the ponies and horses at Piccadilly were a really lovely bonus….so pretty, several Gypsy cobs with all their abundant feather….glorious, and some very original “clip ‘n colour” jobs happening lol. Awwww I’d LOVE a go on one of those police bikes…….assuming I could get on, which is somewhat doubtful these days 😮 towards the end of my motorcycling days I had issues getting onto my 750 custom Honda which was very low in comparison. …….tho I may not be able to be trusted….I might nick it lol. I was wondering when the regimental change was happening….great to see the Blues back and I’ll bet the LifeGuards who have been on duty will be VERY happy to get back to barracks after the craziness of the last couple of days. Zodiac is utterly GORGEOUS….I love dappled greys and he/she is a stunner!! This Christmas/New Years they’ve had to make a lot of accomodations due to crowds, but they’ve managed to keep things going admirably. The lady in the National costume def looked Korean…..hanbok I believe it’s called? Please correct me if I’m wrong people. Also lovely to see our favourite Blues trooper, looking very good(when does he not?) in spite of it being the relatively early hours of New Year’s Day. Lol and yeah, John, I’d also often wondered why anyone would WANT the boxes. It’s a lot of responsibility being up front. I’m pretty sure it’s not music that’s bothering the horses…..I think it’s the crowds…..lots of strangers, all moving, and talking. It’s a lot for a horse to face, particularly a relatively new horse.

Stalker here. Watch a lot but don't talk much. But glad to see my favorite horse in the mix on the end. Reminds me of my horse lady though a lot bigger. Mine was only 14 hands high but since i am short she was perfect for me. She was a Tennessee walker, black with 4 white socks. But instead of a blaze she had a white star. Sassy thing too. Am curious though, do they find the horses more energetic in cold weather. I know i did. She wanted to dance while getting on her saddle, not wanting to sit still. In more humid weather, she was very still. But then again she loved the snow. She and our shepard would love a good roll in the snow.
