Hi John have the guards been told to tell the tourists not to let them touch the horses. I did watch a video yesterday n a tourist asked the guard if they could stroke the horse, and he said no n today no one is offering to touch them which I think is a good thing tbh as I've noticed the horses are sooooo much calmer which is awesome they stand there as they should n not clippity clopping as u call it 😂😂😂😂😂 buy I suppose it had to happen at some point n I for one am delighted no agitated horses getting upset it's not fair on the horse 🐴 to be upset its only the same as us cos if I was being pestered or harassed I would bite aswell 😅😅😅😅 so the no touching has at last been implemented wohooooooo best wishes darlin xxxx god bless the 💂 and god save the king 👑 ❤🎷🎺🇬🇧😍🐴💂👑🥾🪖🏫🚁🛸xxx

You do not support or dimiss any of the numerous protests captured in your videos. You are simply (if I dare say that, considering the hardship and effort you put in) a living diary of Horse Guards. John, the reason I faithfully watch your channels (London City Walks and Buska in the Park) is because of your very direct coverage of the Horse Guards activities as they happen, live at that time!! It doesn’t matter who happens to be caught by the lens or your camera, country they come from or culture, gender or religion, only the direct disrespect of these wonderfully troopers or their magnificent horses they ride…people around the world seem to forget these young men and women are active duty troopers in the British Army Armored Division and have served overseas during conflicts!! They each one deserve a great deal of honor and respect, not the absolutely abominable disrespect they are shown by the public or tourists of many countries, unfortunately including my own country, the USA. if anyone came to anywhere they are stationed and mocked them or disrespected them like they themselves have been caught by your own camera lens, they would be utterly mortified and shamed! I’m thinking of The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in particular! Those in command would see that each one was dealt with accordingly immediately!! + These members of the British Army are stationed at Horse Guards for Ceremonial Duty and to protect the King and Queen where needed. They are not there to be treated like they are an exterior of Disney World Attractions!! My goodness gracious!! It’s shameful to watch this happen!! You, John, are shedding light to an area of London that needs to be seen so that the right folks in the city or national government can rectify this problem through the use of the Military Defense Force that cover that area of London. John, I know this is a mega response comment but I needed to response but one that was needed! My husband and I follow your 2 channels avid😮ly and so enjoy your walks about London commenting as you go. You are teach about your lovely city and we thought enjoy it! All your extensive knowledge of the Horse Guards is incredible, even knowing troopers names or knowing most, if not all the horses names, how many hands tall they are! We love that, especially me as I’m a devoted horse fan! Thank you so very much, John, for all you do to show the world your beautiful city but especially these magnificent Horse Guards and all they do, We appreciate all your hard work and respect the pride you have for your country and the Horse Guards. My husband, Sam, and I married at 18 & 19 yrs old nearly 58 years ago right after he finished USAF Boot Camp. He served for 23 yrs, 8 months & 13 days of active duty, retiring to go work for US Customs & Border Patrol for 26 yrs! Sam served with honor and distinction for which I’m very proud. That’s why we love the Horse Guards so much!! Thank you and Blessings, John, from S & T in SE FL USA❤️🙏🏼🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

It’s perhaps as well people are keeping their distance with such a crowd around enormous horses. A horse’s “tactile sensation” throughout their body is as sensitive as our fingertips - some parts more so than others. They can detect one fly landing on them. So the overstimulation of lots of hands pawing at them could lead to them using one of their defence mechanisms - and if they opt to run where do people go to avoid being trampled by hooves the size of dinner plates. Both horses are fairly relaxed - they’re “resting” one back leg, standing with one leg cocked. They’ve no intention of getting ready to run anywhere just yet - but that can change in a heartbeat. And moving objects - such as fluttering flags held by morons - can be seen as a threat.

Hello John ! What is like about your channel is you explain things … and not in a way that makes us feel ‘simple’. I’m from America and don’t know that much about the Kings guard, but I’ve learned a lot by watching your channel. I remember you showing us that all the horses have numbers on their hooves , it’s too bad we don’t have a list of said numbers with the horses name ! And as far as the guards yelling …. Well they’re not there for the public … isn’t their job to protect and work for the king ? Am I wrong there ? ( I mean no disrespect). Have a safe and blessed new year

Hi John, I'm coming to you from Northwest Florida. I really enjoy commentary and your being so diligent in your videoing as so well. You didn't say anything, but did you hear the gentlman earlier that shouted from the street, "Thank you for your service?" That's the only time I've heard anyone tell the guards that. Yep. A lot of people seem to think that ceremonial is just getting “dressed up and sitting on a horse” Believe me, most of the troopers will NEVER work as hard in their military careers as they do in ceremonial. For a start, they’re responsible for the horses. They feed, and water ALL of the horses in their regimental stables. They are responsible for thoroughly grooming all the horses EVERY day. They go out VERY early, to exercise the horses EVERY day. They muck out the stables, EVERY day, hauling muck, and bales of straw and hay and bags of feed. It should be remembered that when horses are stabled, EVERYthing needs to be provided to them, and that’s what troopers are for 😂 The mantra is, “horse first, then kit, then you” Then there’s the kit…….that mirror shine is built up by layers of wax and polish and lots and LOTS of buffing. As you can imagine, the boots alone can take hours, then there’s ALL the horses tack, which is disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and polished, then reassembled daily, which again, is a good hour or mores worth of work……and then there’s the personal kit. The sword, helmet, cuirass and any other metal pieces need to be thoroughly polished, then buffed clean(they get pulled up if there’s any visible polish left on the metal), which at the “least” is another hour or two of work, then all the white leather, like the cross belts has to be cleaned, and touched up where necessary. And this is EVERY DAY! Add to this the fact that as ceremonial troops they’re often involved in parades and displays which have to be rehearsed, which ofc in London, means getting up at ridiculous o’clock to prep horses and rehearse drills in the middle of the night. The workload is INTENSE and I deeply admire the troopers for dealing with it all while maintaining a professional demeanour.

Well, they “were” dead. The really horrifying part is why that axe has the big spike on the back. In cavalry charges of old, many, MANY horses died or were mortally wounded. The spike was to dispatch horses with mortal injuries. The aftermath of a cavalry charge of old would have been truly horrific.

An idiot that I worked with in a ‘living in’ job with horses retired at the same time as his horse was put down. He was in the bedroom next to mine and shortly after moving in I detected a ‘whiff’ on the landing, on the other side of my room was the toilet and bathroom though so I just got out quickly! As time went by the smell got worse and our boss whose room was opposite plus the people in the staff flat upstairs started muttering about it. It was eventually tracked down, the idiot had bought his horses hoof with him and made it into a lamp stand, the heat from the bulb really wasn’t helping!! 😂😂😂

The Regiment is actually an Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment, headquartered at Bulford. That's the side the public rarely get to see. The Public-facing, ceremonial part of the Regiment is what we all see at Horse Guards Parade. Many of the troopers move between armoured and ceremonial during their time in HCAV.

Examples being an: Idiot: a stupid person…maybe; Entitled individuals : think they deserve more than other people, even when they really aren’t better than others…could be; Ignorance: lack of knowledge or information. Researching laws and customs going to any country is a must y’all who travel. Disrespecting the military could cause you incarnation. Tell him that you can get battery operated heated gloves and socks that keep warm a lot longer, keep them on low though, the first time I wore mine I had to throw myself to the floor in snow to rip my boots off, they were burning!! Anyway, they’d fit inside the Jack Boots and Gauntlets!!

Has Obnoxious Karen truly been officially banned from the Horse Guards??? HOORAY HOORAY HOORAY FROM ALL YOUR FANS IN THE U.S. The Horse Guards and their beautiful mounts have to put up with unbelievable rudeness from ignorant, self-serving tourists...Why does this seem so acceptable to the Palace authority? It is a very sad thing to watch and the Guards and Horses are forced to be at the pushy, ill-mannered mercies of the public as if they were paid cheap sidewalk Palace entertainers who are merely there to be pawed, posed and mistreated by any random "tourista" passers-by! It's a disrespectful shame😒.

Just watching your videos, and marrying the daughter of horse person (my late mother in law would sigh about moving back and forth across the US with a peak of four a kids and ALWAYS two horses), I have a theory that some of the mounts have had issues with people wearing certain scents and or colors/types of clothing. My youngest sister in law (had cancer not taken her) would be able ot answer that for me-she was the only child who got into horses. Her daughter did for just a few years. Just to put how deep my wife's dad was into horses: Going into ww2 he got very frustrated when his National Guard unit had to trade in their horses and was NOT happy driving a truck in Italy. The bad boy friend stick he kept behind the door for his three daughters latest dates was a polo mallet and he was NOT a wealthy man middle class yeah (third generation lawyer).

My condolences for your loss 🌹 It used to be thought that horses were colour blind, not a theory I subscribed to my father owning a Russian Thoroughbred Lunatic with colour preferences as I found out to my cost!😂 The latest science though posits that they actually have Dichromatic Vision, they have two types of cone cells unlike us lucky beings that have three. The theory is that they can see green and blue but not red. It’s a whole lot more involved than that of course but three A4 pages of reply may not be gratefully received! As for the different scents etc I was brought up to believe that as well but I can’t honestly say that I’ve seen it in action unless you count the fact that they can always sniff out the drugs in their food!! 😂

@@j.ksmith7432 Thank you, it has been several years since the losses. Suffice to say my niece is now 40 and has her own daughter whether horses are in the future I can not say. I still find the whole polo thing a bit of a hoot as my wife's dad was (politically) right on that line between American liberal and democratic socialist. Her mom was of the same ilk (not a lot of Ivy League degreed women from just after WW2. I do enjoy when I see comments lke for the love of god double check that bit placement. Then again some horses (like people) are just not into the job you gave them-and or a trooper or stable staff missed a detail getting everything ready.

@@MrDportjoe My father was in The Royal Horse Guards when I was born, they later (1969) amalgamated with The Royal Dragoons giving us The Blues and Royals which my brother joined, so I’ve been around both Hyde Park and Combermere Barracks rather a lot, though not lately. The Ceremonial Bits have been a constant bone of contention, mostly with people who don’t understand the concept of a ‘double bridle’ arrangement with the bits. A lot seem to see the decorative outside of the curb bit and assume that there’s a huge amount of metalwork inside the horses mouth or that the bits are on the horses teeth, none of which is true. That said though, I may be a die-hard supporter of the HCMR in general and The Blues and Royals in particular but I confess to having turned the air blue on occasion since I started watching these videos, my father would be spinning in his urn if he saw some of what I’ve seen over the last 18 months or so!

What is the proper way to greet a horse? Saying Hello Begin by standing one or two steps in front of the horse and extend your arm slowly. Gently allow the horse to smell the back of your hand. Once they have felt comfortable enough to touch your hand with their nose, this will count as your first interaction, and is called a 'horseman's handshake'.Ja

It’s great to see the horse displaying trust with one of the handlers checking his mouth for “bit” discomfort. It’s sad to see how “ trust “ is key to a horse not often understood. Horses too are a social society. We can use basic humanity learned from our own society. Humans unwittingly act like the predator when horses are a flight animal. Horses get bullying.

People forget this is a working military base. Since there were complaints about the guards shouting , today watching a couple of days of your videos, the guards are having to walk around the tourist. This is not right! Inconsiderate people make their jobs hard. Let the guards yell at the tourists when they do something wrong.!!
