The actual leaders post-ww2 were pretty interesting: Germany, Italy and Japan were sat at the kiddie table, too afraid to even speak, the French were eager to take revenge on Germany and the Americans and British were very suspicious of Stalin, a new threat potentially worse than Hitler, who now controlled half of Europe and started making vague threats. China didn’t show up because their civil war had resumed and everyone else was exhausted from fighting.

@@tillettman Not as much as you want to think. They did not "know" if they would. There was the possibility they might have, but many high-ranking Japanese officials wanted to continue fighting even after the US invaded. If the nukes were not dropped, and Japan continued fighting, millions would die from conventional bombing, as well as a conventional invasion by Soviet and American forces. The bombs alone did not cause the Japanese to surrender, but it was the final "tie-breaker" on whether they should or not, with America ready to invade and Soviet forces baring down on them from the west. If the bombs had not been dropped, Japan would have taken more time to surrender, which at that point could have meant at least a few conventional bombing raids would have leveled some Japanese cities, potentially killing as many or more people as the bombs. So, no, they did not know for certain, and if Japan had fought on for even another month, there would have been regular bombing raids on Japanese cities, such as the US did with Tokyo.

I read a fictional book once with a slaughter depiction very clearly inspired from those events. Even having researched intensely about it before made me sick for hours. Knowing it was real actually made it worse. And damn did I seek an answer, too.

Speaking of the World, perhaps you're both willing and able to tackle another topic that has gripped the world... incoherent shoe sizes. Like a size 12 here isn't a size 12 there. EUR size goes up while US size goes down wtf. Good luck with UK sizes. There's a 12D and 12E no 12C unfortunately but it's mass hysteria trying to buy shoes online took me 6 tries ... for then Amazon to win with an 11.5Wide. It's just not right. bad segue?

How about women's pant sizes while we're on the subject. There are at least 3 different types in stores here, and it can be difficult to figure it out. Or children's shoe sizes... the numbers run backward from adult sizes. Fashion is fucked up

@@SugarandSarcasm Also womens shoes are different than a man shoe size for the same number so that doesn't make sense either. Also there's unisex size, which takes either the womans or mens' size depending on the company. I have a Converse pair that are sold under womens unisex mens UK size 12 womens 14 ...huh? Yeah, child shoes have their own system. Pants and shoes, the Weird Wild West of clothing standards that never made up its mind. This is driving the world insane

When I order shoes I know I have to buy 47 1/3 EUR, 12.5 UK and 12 US :D Those are all the same sizes, atleast for adidas which is what I wear mostly. Also it's about the manufacturer, different company different sizes. I know for a fact that nike and adidas have different sizes, You buy one shoe of each that are 47 EUR and they will be noticeably different

No, our than communist gouvernment in East Germany let it build on their own decision. Before finalizing, there were some informal consultations with the other Warsaw Pact members, but plans and material were already prepared - to much Eastern Germans, 3.5 millions, had left East Germany via West-Berlin to West Germany, it was a massive brain drain for East Germany and a pronlemativ PR for the communist gouvernment obviously.
