Today, we once again go back in history. This time, we look at the 1950s to acknowledge the FIRST NBA legend - Paul Arizin. He was the pioneer of a jump shot. He led the league in scoring two times, won an NBA championship, played with Wilt Chamberlain and even won the Eastern Basketball League Championship. The legend, the one and only - Paul Arizin!

Gotta give dude his flowers he is still 4th all time on the warriors scoring list, played 10 seasons, could’ve been 12 but after 3 seasons he served 2 years in the marine corps

Excellent video showing respect to one of the legends of the past and a true pioneer of the game. Arizin definitely deserves respect and all the accolades. He was not the first player to introduce the modern jump-shot into the NBA/BAA, however, it was actually Kenny Sailors.

only 5 players in the entire history of the game have lead the league in scoring and FG% in the same season: Paul Arizin, Neil Johnston, Wilt Chamberlain, Bob McAdoo and Shaq. And only Wilt has done it multiple times. this is a crazy statistic to me, because what it says is that a player is being unselfish, operating within the natural flow of the offense, and only taking premium shots...and is **still** scoring more than everyone else. And Arizin is the only non-center to do it.

And back then they probably thought it was crazy. There were probably some that loved it and some that hated it. Imagine having so much influence that you change the way coaches teach players to play the sport!

That’s exactly why he is a legend. What seems like a normal part of the game to you in the modern day NBA had to start at some point. Have some respect for the people who paved the way. Wilt Chamberlain even said Paul Arizin was the best player he played with in his career.

Barkley was 6'4 (listed 6'6") playing power forward. also give Arizin some of what today's athletes are taking (💉💉💊💊) and put him on a modern weightlifting program and he'd be a lean, mean 250.

I'd consider him more of a late BAA legend. That's arguable, but I can't deny your point. Mikan's career was great, but I guess why he sometimes if not always gets forgotten is because his career was very short.

Arizin was one of the most reliable and consistent players. He was solid and athletic but far from a super star at the time. He was never the face of the league outside of one championship, a scoring title and two amazing all star appearances against Mikan out of his many. The all decade team of the 50s by most accounts would be Mikan, Cousy, Pettit, Sharman and Scheyes. Arizin would be my 6th man though. He was awesome.

In 50 years if there are 40 new players that can be said to be better than someone like Kevin Garnett, then he should fall behind all 40 of those players on a greatest 125 list. I don’t think this Paul Arizin guy should be on the top 75 list over tmac or kyrie or Vince carter or a whole bunch of guys but I appreciate what he did for the game
