There's a statue of a Shoeshiner boy (yes, an under-age child) in Astrakhan, Russia from the height of the Soviet era in 1975. There's also another statue from the Soviet Era in Ekaterinburg. yes! the camera is called a "daguerreotype" and was the first widely publicly available photographing technique. it has a high picture quality because it used silver plated copper sheets that were polished to a mirror surface. think of it like taking a picture using a mirror. since light itself has no resolution, the image quality is only limited by the quality of materials, exposure time and plate size. at least, this is my understanding of it. i have not been in a photography class for many years 😅

I remember learning about this in a photography class in high school, that was prob one of my favorite classes lol. They’d give passes to walk around and take pictures around the school and it was that teachers last year so she wasn’t really keeping track of how long people went out for even though you were only able to go out for 30 minutes technically. Occasionally some of my friends would skip and I’d give them the pass and I’d carry the camera so they could walk around freely too, instead of hanging out in the bathroom or some shit lmao.
