When I first got my playstation all I had was a demo disc at first...the first PS1 game I ever rented from Blockbuster was the original Tomb Raider and wow did it blow my mind. I was too young and impatient to get anywhere far in the main game and always had more fun exploring Lara's Mansion training level.

Ridge Racer was the first PS1 game i played. The loading screen game amazed me what technoloy has come to.

I had Starwars Rebel Assault 2 and Rage Racer (Ridge Racer 3) as my first 2 games. They were amazing (to me) I remember playing SW thinking it looked as good as playing a film! (It didn't) mad thing about it was the hardest level was level 3, the rest of the 16? Ish levels were fine but 3 was really difficult. It was the first ever PS1 game I finished. Rage Racer was fantastic I still have the sounds of it imbedded in my head (favourite song was Silver Stream) I remember letting my dad play and he created a team called Ghost Racing, trying to emulate him I created a team called Phantom Racing. Or that would have been what it would have been called if it wasn't character limit to 6, my team was called Phatom Racing.🤣

I loved the arcade Ridge race machine and played it a lot. I remember being in one pub with a two player version and a guy was standing next to me bragging on and on about him being really good at it. so I eventually had to bite and asked if he wanted to play against me. Sure enough he was very good but I did still beat the pants off him and win. You should have heard his excuses claiming that there was obviously a fault on the side that he was playing on and that was the reason I won. What a sore loser, I will never forget that moment, ha! I did play the PS1 version not too long ago on the real hardware (At a computer museum) and even with the digital controls it plays really well and has the same addictive quality of the arcade machine. Top stuff!

I got a bundle with my ps1 at launch. Ridge racer, jumping flash, toshinden, demo disk and another one I cant remember. Ridge racer plays like a dream, its nowhere near the arcade version graphically but still a brilliant conversion. Jumping flash was a really fun little game that I imagine hasnt aged well at all. Never liked toshinden, it was always a bit clunky in a sort of mash every button to win because the controls wernt very responsive kind of way.

I was an N64 child back then, yet my friends had Playstations so I managed to keep fairly up to date... that being said I definitely played Tekken before Toshinden, though I did READ about it before Tekken. Super Power magazine was where the hottest news were at in Sweden back then, and I think they were also fairly lukewarm on Toshinden as they already knew higher class-stuff was on it's way. Still- I did manage to play it on PC, and yeah, for it's technical flaws I'd say they managed to create a fairly engaging cast and cool-looking fights, despite everyone's moon jumps. And as evidenced from this video, once you listen to Eiji or Duke's theme, those wily little devils worm their way into your ear and never let go.

wow first PS1 games, i think mine was jumping flash and a demo disc (loaded, destruction derby and a bike game you can punch and kick people) shortly later we got rayman and my brother bought a bunch of pinball games coz thats what he was into and our last game was alundra which was my favorite

We played Toshinden on the Demo 1 disc and ended up buying it. Well, my brothet did. Not a great game but even now I still remember the daft quotes the characters made at the end of each bout.

Consoles: Binatone 6 in 1 tv game->Phillips Videopac-> Master system->pc engine->megadrive->snes->ps1->saturn->dreamcast->xbox->ps3->xbox360->xbox1->pandoras box arcade thingy. Handheld: gameboy->atari lynx->psp->psvita->3ds. Bloody hell iv spent a lot of dosh on this hobby lol.

i first played Toshinden on pc amd was weird and clunky but i liked the atmopshere, it had potential. 2nd one was much much better in basically everything. 3rd was a huge step down, no ring out and a cast made out entirely of clones of other characters, 4 was bad, they brought back theopen arena but decimated the entire cast and replaced it with toddlers.

The iPhone one with all the IAP nonsense didn’t help either. It’s a shame as the core gameplay and graphics were super solid. But when a perfect lap with all the perfectly timed drifting and nitros couldn’t get a you top 3 spot without updates, it was the last straw

My first two were bizarre - Rapid Racer and Overboard. One is a beloved classic in my current collection. The other was given away years ago as it was hot garbage. Guess which.

Toshinden is actually good. The models are a little hilarious, but the animation is smooth, it responds really well, and explored a novel concept with weapons. Tekken 1, now that is a shit game. Sucked on release and still sucks now. Honestly idk how anyone played that series until Tekken 3.
