The First Production 2-Seater MINI | The R58 Coupe

One of the rarest MINI's around. The R58 Coupe was ahead of its time and a very unique and sometimes odd looking vehicle with its backwards ball cap roof and two-seater configuration. They didn't sell many of them and for that reason alone, this car is one of the rarest MINI's out there.

I have a 2012 r58 coupe s that i bought in January with, wait for it 6,800 Km. My first mini, Love it. Sometimes i think of changing the run flat tires for normal ones to see if the ride improves. Any thoughts?

Have had my 2012 JCW R58 for 7yrs and never had an issue with the blind spots, I am 5'6. They're a LOT of fun and I get lots of compliments from the people mainly the older generations.

Well ....I have a x3m competition.....and just bought one of these as well, that is how much I enjoy driving it. So I have the luxury of both, I wanted a 911 which I drove but it's stupid expensive compared to this, and this car honestly filled my need for fun that I wanted in the 911, it's that much fun to drive, and my x3m comp, is a beast with 500hp and very high tech, but my coupe now being simple and raw with a 6 speed manual is a blast and comfortable to drive. Lots of torque even in 6 on the highway don't need to downshift to 5 or 4 surprisingly. And a used one is about 13k Canadian, tons of bang for the buck.

These were such a pain to build. I've worked at Plant Oxford since 2002 and the boot/tailgate was a horrible thing to fit. The R58 and R59 were only meant to be a short term build but demand shot through the roof and we couldn't keep up. Still a good looking car to me

Sorry for just butting in, but you might know some info I haven't found anywhere. Do you perhaps know how many coupes were produced? And is there any way to disable the rear spoiler? When there is snow and ice on the car I fear the whole motor can fail.

I currently own a 13 plate R58 Cooper S and love it. About to get a JCW rear spolier I managed to source fitted. I've also had a Milltek non resonated catback exhaust fitted. Probably get a remap done next year. It's basically my Sunday car and going to be a keeper!!!

I have a 2013 r58 S.There is nothing else like it in front wheel drive .I drive mine every day still.. I highly recommend getting regular tires instead of the run flats that come with the car originally.

Agree, run flats should be avoided. The Coupé trunk is big enough for a spare wheel. Some cars were sold with a jack, lug wrench etc. as an option.

Just bought a 2012 JCW Coupé with 56k km in Canada. Paid a lot less than the prices you quoted. They are rare in the US and Canada but not in the UK. A JCW was not available in automatic.

@@TheMINIac for the first model year (2012) you could only have the 6-speed manual. Was not aware the auto was available later. MINI.are always changing how they configure their cars. I read the 2021 GP is only available in auto.
