Man! This is a thing of beauty! A 1965 golden art work! A masterpiece! I bet this Mack truck could pull the portable zipper, spider, tilt-a-whirl, eli bridge big 5 ferris wheel, scrambler, loop-o-plane, octopus, little dipper kiddiecoaster, bumper cars, 36' 30 horses 2 bench carousel & other major classic rides with trailer & all.

The R model Mack one of the best trucks ever
@petermalanchuk82104 ай бұрын
I recall when the new Mack R models were on the road, running through my village of Hempstead, NY in summer of 1966, I was 13 -1/2 years old. The first I saw was an R-600 tandem for Shell Oil pulling a 9,200 gallon all aluminum tank trailer of gasoline. The tractor had red wheels, six cast spoke, different cast spoke than the one shown, no stainless-steel hub cap, just a smaller diameter cast steel flat bearing cover with Mack written on it. It was fast and quiet. The other new R model tractor, right at that time, was a short hood (short BBC) version of the R-600, it was a Mack model U-600, written on the side of the truck, for American Oil Company. It was a red tractor, tandem, with six cast spoke wheels, pulling a 9,200 gallon gasoline tank trailer. At that time Amoco still ran another older Mack, a maybe 1963 Mack model B-83 tandem, with a V8 Maxidyne 865 CID, non-turbo, engine in it, it had the V8 symbol on the side of the hood, single vertical exhaust. It had a larger more squared edged radiator than the regular B models of the day, more sq. in. frontal radiator area for the V8 engine. Good times they were!

Man, like a treasure hiding in plain sight. I wonder how many truck guys and gals saw it and figured it was just another R...and it was a registered and working truck until just this year! Amazing. 🤠👍

Not a trucker but I love old trucks. To me this is a classic and brings back memories when these were commonly seen working. I would pay good money to get to play around in a big parking lot hooking up and "trying" to back trailers with one of these or any old tractors for that matter.

My truck driving career started in 1989 in one of these trucks. I was 21 years old and didnt know any better but when that truck was in low range it would pull 4 tanks going the opposite way. Wasnt very fast but WOW it had pulling power. And that was something back then.

It is clean and well taken care of. My tour videos are my way of sharing & documenting privately owned rigs. Private owners have no obligation to let anyone and everyone see their possessions. I’m thankful it was even at 1 show, and the driver was happy to make this video :)

I like it when someone keeps on using a truck for truck stuff even if it's an antique or Museum or show truck worthy I like the idea that it's still just like the guitars I play it doesn't matter how old it is if it still works you can still use it to do the work this is a cool truck

I drove an old GMC single axle (no power steering) pulling a 40’ trailer around Chicago. I had Popeye arms just from going around corners and backing up. Gotta love a single stack Mack with a window in the back. Thanks for the walk around.

That's a cool truck and story. I've never seen the same hood plaque before. I've always liked the looks of the R model. There used to be a lot of them in my area that were used for log trucks and dump trucks. I drove one for about two years. Never had any problems with it but I'm not a big fan of the Mack engines. My grandfather started teaching me how to drive his log truck when I was 9 years old (1970), and the truck he had at the time was the predecessor to this truck, it was a B model Mack. It had a Cummins with 5x4 transmissions. It was all I could do to push the clutch in...

My next door neighbor in Marion, KY. Dad was a farmer he had a Single axle R model Mack I'm not sure the year But it was Orange and white that classic 2 tone paint white on top, black frame. Dayton rims. Me and Chad got into a knock down drag out fight as 4 yr olds do. Over who had the better truck. My dad's COE Freightliner or Chads mack. Dad settled the argument by whooping us both.
