What a small powerhouse beast. Hook it up with a e-GPU by connecting the USB-C on the back then you got yourself a full fledge powerhouse.

Currently, the 8845hs is a beast, but this geekom a8 costs $200/300 more than a gmktec K8 for the same configuration, with the exception that the K8 has a fan, which means better performance and much longer life for the components. For example I play GTAV on my K8 everything high settings, 1080p and its 80 fps (65fps 1% low) way better than this video apparently 80fps (59fps 1% low) in medium 1080p. Same for BG3 I play without FSR and its 40fps. little tip: using one of the m.2 ports to put an occulink port will provide even better perfs for the eGPU.

Mini Pc size is perfect, i have the space for full tower atx pc, but i would love to see a mini PC. I was looking to buy one, but sadly, all of these mini pc companies don't ship to Africa, only to Europe and the US.

Can the GPU performance maybe have something to do with the whole new AI NPU in there using some of the power? Because the TDP is the same as the 7940HS but there’s that NPU in there taking some of the power.
@ElevatedSystems8 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I can’t determine that until AMD provides access to the NPU telemetry data. As of now I don’t know what, if anything the NPU is doing as I can’t see any of the power or usage stats.

Hi, will you be ordering the new Qualcomm "Copilot+" Dev box? Looks like a very interesting mini PC, even smaller (and hopefully easier to cool) than Ryzen...
@ElevatedSystems8 ай бұрын
No, I don’t really have anything to contribute to windows on arm software development. I’ll wait until final retail versions are available.

You don't need it for a mini-PC. Battery life on that extreme level is best for laptop or those who live in western Europe (going through an energy crisis currently).

What do you mean by new? Apple came out with the Mac mini in 2005 and Intel introduced the NUC a year or two after that.
@ElevatedSystems4 ай бұрын
The first NUC launched in 2013 and it and the Mac Mini used desktop CPU's with crap graphics until recently.

I am going to try to use a mini pic to replace my laptop for mobile computing. I have never used a laptop keyboard or touch pad, I always use an external keyboard and mouse, I never use it in tight spaces or in my lap, I never use battery power, I need and use multiple screens, laptop is heavy and I do not do gaming. So I feel my computing style lends itself to try to use a mini pc in this fashion. I hope it works.

connected a 1080 egpu to this beast and runs everything at high settings for such a small size. great investment imo!

Do you think this could be a good choice of gaming server? The game I'm looking at recommended 4Ghz single core speed for hosting a server.

regarding of the radeon performance on that A8 is like i predicted, the compact size have a more "common" style of cooling tech being utilized, which geekom doesnt disclose the actual cooling max TDP load. which means, they opt to "underpower" the iGPU so it wont go beyond the low treshold of the cooling they installed in it. thats also why they comes in a more affordable pricing. they knew they only provide "pretty adequate" cooling for the kind of ryzen 9 they are offering. i cant blame them for that marketing/design policy. people would still dig for the price.

8945hs is higher clocked and requires more cooling. Did it reach same frequencies in geekom and framework?

Yes, both peak at 2800 MHz

Thanks, somehow the time codes from my last video got merged into this one. I fixed it but it may take KZbin a while to implement the changes.

16:40 The 7840/7940 also got the NPU but just running at lower clock ( which spec at 10Tops ) So it is not thesame processor minus the NPU, it is the same processor with a same NPU just in lower clock and possible AMD have make a better effeciency / curve on the 8000 APU
@edalder20008 ай бұрын
I appreciate that MS is pushing the NPU. All I want to do is play competitive shooters and lower end games on the 780m graphics, I could roll with the SER7 that has the 7840HS, correct?

At this price I'll take the Minisforum AtomMan. It has an extra thunderbolt 4 port and occulink. It even includes WiFi 7 and 6 more cores. I don't see this as competitive against that kind of competition.

How much ram was assigned for gpu in mini pc
@ElevatedSystems8 ай бұрын
4GB dedicated, 16GB shared.
@kellyanderson71158 ай бұрын
I'd guess that the memory allocated to the GPU on the Geekom is lower than the Framework. It's absolutely stupid that you can't configure the GPU memory from the UEFI settings. Desktop motherboards typically allow you to set that. A lot of notebook don't allow you to configure it, but do change the memory allocated to the GPU based on how much system memory you have. You should be able to find a util that will show you how much memory is dedicated to the GPU.
@ElevatedSystems8 ай бұрын
4 GB of memory can be dedicated to the iGPU in the driver settings, with half the installed system memory designated as shared. I had this set on both the FW and A8.

Powerful mini-PC. Great for office work, programming, photo editing, light video editing, and light gaming. However, you could do the same with the Geekom A7 if you don't need the NPU.

Good video explaining some real-world usage. Gaming that is. The only true test indicator. I'm about to start my new A8 and test it next to my A7. Different models tested in the same environment. Haven't seen that done on KZbin to date. Let's hope for an extinction event to ensue.

Forgot to mention previously. I've been working on a cooling system for these mini-PCs. Protype almost ready for testing. It's a case tampering free solution that might just be changing the mini-PC game. Already! 🎲🎲

Stay away from ANY product that uses NPU's/artificial intelligence, which is a neural processing unit, embracing A.I. and Copilot/Recall, and overall tracking and monitoring. In fact, stay away from ANY version of Windows past 10/10 Pro
