The first steam passenger service out of Oswestry station for 50 years was headed by Beyer Peacock no 1827.

Excellent to see something up and running, can only build from here and get better. Looking forward to see it grow from here. Very well done🙂👍

I remember a diesel passenger link to Gobowen in the 60s. Steam freight traffic. My granddad was the last station master at Oswestry. I remember two buildings on each side of the track with an over rail foot bridge.

I’m glad enthusiasts and others are reopening some of these Welsh railway lines. The Beeching closures decimated western England and Wales.

3000 miles of lines were closed by British Rail before the Beeching closures, www.networkrail.co.uk/who-we-are/our-history/making-the-connection/dr-beechings-axe/

Remember the line well in the 80s, thrashing up to Blodwell with 20s, 31s, 37s, & 47s on ballasts. Will be great to see the line reopened again but will be a challenge between Gobowen and Llynclys Junction if Network Rail reopen from Gobowen to Welshpool. A joint station at Os would be good though. It may be a case of the two parties will need each other. Will definitely happen. Great video.

It seems crazy that the route closed in the first place? It's a town of some size, so why was it taken off the railway map?

Because it's not in London!

The road transport lobby with which Beeching was heavily involved saw to it. It happened all over the country. The town in which I live in the midlands saw it's rail link removed at the exact same time massive expansion and redevelopment began. It cries out for a railway now. Madness.
