I LOVE THIS!!! So similar to training a dog to get used to kids (tug on ears, tails, etc.) to learn that it’s ok and they don’t need to react.

I have a 17.2 Oldenburg Hunter and Eventing Champion who is safe for children, but not necessarily adults. Ozzy has a special understanding of who is an "innocent". It is uncanny. I have never witnessed this in my 40 years of horsemanship. Lol! The Innocents are safe with Ozzy!! He has been trained very well and has been in training his entire life. With that being said, his personality is sweet, he loves children, God made him that way.

I love watching the channel. I enjoy good horsemanship. I feel like good horsemanship is hard to find lately. Maybe I am just getting old. I was lucky to have been trained by the best in my junior years and to have worked with more "greats" in my horse career. You all do a wonderful job. Keep it up, please!

This is such a good thing to be teaching! People take the “small is cute” mentality with goals as well and it’s awful, I had to correct so many naughty things when I had a foal because people handled her without my permission or instruction! I’d also love to see George being taught that it’s ok for people to crawl under him! I crawl under my 15.2hh mare all the time as a mix of being lazy but also making her safe for small kids and dogs to be around however I can also imagine a child seeing me doing it and deciding to try it which could be a disaster

@@YourRidingSuccess - Yes please! I'd like to see a video on leading, circling & standing the pony square coz the 7 yr old grandie wants to enter some Child Handler classes, starting with her end of year Pony Club gymkhana. I appreciate you making these videos...coz it gives Nanna a bit of a break! She loves watching all your videos I save for her. I mean, I am capable of doing it, but having taught 2 daughters & 3 granddaughters to ride I'm a bit over it, you know? I'm kinda grateful the boys have never shown interest: but the girls?...oh yep!

Great content but i have a question how do you teach them not to bite i know you said don’t let them but how do you prevent them i have a 5 year old mini that i have raised from a yearling and this past year she has decided to start biting and I am not sure what to do about it. Thank you for the inspiration.

@YourRidingSuccess3 жыл бұрын
it may have looked like that but he wasnt. He was just nuzzeling. Also, its is mostly wool and wax, the sand sticks to it so it doesnt get inhaled. But great observation x
@naevrys3 жыл бұрын
I really don’t think there is anything wrong with hand feeding or gently playing with a horse’s mouth, you just have to know what behaviors to reinforce and which ones to not reinforce. It is quite simple to teach food manners to horses, even if they’ve previously had bad manners. My mare, for example, used to maul people for treats but now waits politely to receive a treat/reward after hearing the click (I use positive reinforcement/clicker training in a great deal of my training with her).

And race horses in the UK we do it cos they can't kick you if you are at the side they are standing on and its faster than walking around.

This is so smart. I wish more people treated little dogs like this too. Just because you can manhandle an animal, doesn't mean it's the best solution, it's just the easiest at the time as you don't have to put the work in training.

So don't teach them "kiss." 👍 To a channel that shall remain nameless, I'm concerned one of the little cousins will end up bitten. But I'm just a random internet person, maybe I don't know anything and ohhh isn't it cute. Sigh.
