This is still one of my favorite ps2 games but seeing it critiqued like this from an outside view yeah it's fair to say it had a good amount of problems. The dialogue pacing is a lot more noticeable now that you put it out there like that. I still love the game for what it was. Good review - Thanks for covering it

What's super funny is that my pediatric dentist used to have an arcade section for children featuring a cabinet with a PS2 in it and some other caveman 2 player side scrolling game. The most interesting thing about that song in the credits - they didn't just hire some random guy from the street to make it - it was actually made by an R&B and funk artist named W. Thad Bourland, who was somewhat well known in the 1970s with his group, "The 9th Creation" (you can find a lot of their songs on KZbin): I have no idea why the developers contacted this particular artist to record an original song for the game's credits (this is the only game credit W. Thad Bourland has), but there you have it.
@vonVince8 ай бұрын
The song gradually quiets down and music that's more typical to the game starts playing - I'm guessing that there's a longer version of the song in the game files?

Fun fact; Extermination EU localisation was very different from North America. 1. Dialogue was different. 2. Character design was different. 3. Many voice actors were changed. 4. Subtitles were missing entirely. 5. Difficulty was increased, especially for NG+ And lastly, the ending credits theme was changed and is a lot more fitting. If you search KZbin for Extermination PAL/EU walk-through or OST, you can listen to the VASTLY superior ending credits theme.

I’m sure someone already posted this, but that “x” on the back of Gary’s head is a kanji character: 凶. It has several meanings, but by itself it can mean either evil or bad luck. However, when used with 器, it can mean lethal weapon, which I think is what Gary was going for. 😆

Why is the aspect ratio, so f*ed up? Normally with old games, the game runs at 4:3, but videos get stretched to 16:9 making everything bloated. Yet here it's the reverse the game seems to run at 16:9, but the video is in 4:3 so everything is squashed.

There's a weird similar jankiness to early PS2 third person action games. This, Project Eden, The Thing and Run Like Hell all have kind of the same gamefeel with awkward exploration and awkward puzzles interrupted by awkward combat. You can see how the formula became games like Mass Effect but they were clearly still working a lot of stuff out.
@steelbear2063 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if this is simply jank or just a product of its time. Even 7th gen games from ongoing series' don't control and behave like their modern counterparts. Of course it's not true for everything, but even the REmake, while also having tank controls and fixed camera, is way more smooth with the movement than the 5th gen RE games. Hell sometimes even games of the same generation and few years apart can have that. I played Dead Space trilogy back to back a while ago and the first game is so sluggish in comparison to 2 and 3, yet I never had any issue with it while playing it in 2008

Has been awhile but i always enjoyed playing this, despite it being abit rough. And the "americanization" of the NA version with making everyone more gruff and rewriting dialogue to sound more blockbuster movie-ish is too funny. I preferred the PAL VA, theyre not as "good" but abit more genuine/natural in a way.
