I don't think Vader saved Luke for his own intentions, but truly because he was his only son left of the Skywalker family. Luke was the closest thing he had to Padme and simply had deep feelings whether he wanted too or not

To me it always seemed luke was the last connection to his former self and padme. He saw himself in Luke and seemed to have his mothers compassion, everyone else from then was dead or suppressed by palpatine, through him Vader was whole, and I think Vader would've done anything to save him, even throw his and the emperors lives away...

But at the end of Return of the Jedi Darth Vader/ Anakin Skywalker did sacrifice himself to save Luke, I've always been moved by that scene, it's part of the reason that it's my favorite of the original three movies.

Actually Luke and Anakin loved each other, they did spend some years together. And they started to know each other, in the beginning I think he just accepted that his father was Darth vader but later on in the end I think he really really was proud to be his son

I like to think the moment Vader used the force on the departing shuttle to free Luke, he was pouring equal amounts of Anger and Love into his force grip. Which was without a doubt the most balanced Vader was with the Light and Dark sides of the Force.

Personally, Id like to see one of those alternate timeline comics where Vader survives getting tazed by Palpatine and both him and Luke make it back to Endor. And then, well.. we kinda go from there. Would be interesting to see if Luke announces his father to the wider band (probably not) or just lure Leia away so that she could meet her father (which would probably end up awkward with a lot of emotions boiling up). Or maybe even just R2, who is recognised by Anakin, much to Lukes surprise. ^^ Oh well, one can dream.

Ya know this video ultimately saddens me, I’ve always struggled for 40 years with how Anakin who loved his friends and wife so much could become sooooo evil! I can see the hole Vader thing but to kill Obi-1 and younglings, Asoka! And just the extent of his hatred. And to see that Anakin! Not Vader had a glimmer of hope again, that he felt some sort of love again and if he was amagining himself and his son as Skywalker’s bringing back prestige to the name , it would have to be as Anakin and Luke not Vader and Luke Skywalker! So I would amagine he was ready to let go of his hatred and the ways of a sith but to come back to a place of balance being that he had the experience of being both Jedi and Sith ! More like a Revan. It’s to bad that Vader’s intentions weren’t more clear to Luke at the time, and Vader was unable to clearly present this to Luke as well. It’s was just to much for Luke to find out that Vader was his father, his father wanted him to join him to destroy the emperor, all at once! And that Luke wasn’t able to see things like this to really think about the fact he could join his father, destroy the emperor, become co ruler with his father and all the wile turning Vader back to Anakin! Then they could have restored the republic then started a new generation of Jedi !! But Star Wars is a tragic story, not a happy story! So it wouldn’t have been the hit it is today if George wrote a different storyline maybe we wouldn’t have loved it as much! I mean the o.g. fans and all the new fans after all had to see “empire strikes back” for the first time . And when Vader reveals he is Luke’s father ! I don’t think anyone’s jaw didn’t hit the floor! There was nothing to suggest this leading up to that particular seen. So it truly is one of the biggest moments or seens in all of American films! It truly was genius! But with that said it’s sad to know that Vader did have some hope again after suffering for 20 years, and I mean heartbreak pain! The worst kind !!

Of course Vader knows Palpatine messed w/ everything but he has nobody left. Obi & Yoda were done w/ him. He knew they despised him no turning back. So after 20 years of depression hate pain broken he learns his baby is alive his son & not only is it his connection back to a life he disconnected from the emperor even says " the son of anakin " not your son. I know for the big twist but I'm sure Vader Sais anakin is dead I don't think of myself as that person. So not only is he half padme he's also his son his blood. U love who u love even if u don't want. Luke's existence means he now is reconnected to his former self & one thing about anakin is conflict. He's always felt it. Being trained as a jedi not allowed to get his mom left in slavery. Plus im sure not having a father he wanted to give this child a father. I felt so sad seeing 10 year old Luke in the new series playing fighter pilot & all that time was taken from Vader. If he knew his son survived he would have grabbed him as a baby. Very interesting to wonder if he would have ran from the dark side than again how could a little boy get his dad in that scary suit but then again if that's how he knew him. I totally believe no way Vader would have ever hurt 10 year old Luke. Obi & Yoda feared more about the emperor hurting both kids.

Well Vader is still very much intraped in the dark side, so I wouldn't expect him to throw all types of acts of selflesss love out like it's nothing this part of the comic is mainly meant to highlight the slow shift Anakin is starting to make back to the light side in that even still in his own twisted way he's slowly starting to truly love and care about someone again.
