Matt, I live up in Northern British Columbia, and I have a small 135 gal pond I have built on the stairs outside my basement suite. It started out with comets/goldfish with a few big Plecos too, but by the end of the summer, I had about 8 10 Angelfish out there too. I have 3 300w Eheim heaters in there, and monitor temp with a digital thermometer closely. In very late fall * about two weeks ago this year) I drain most of tank, capture angels and plecos, and bring them inside to a 135 gallon I have just for them. I refill pond, and over a week or so, start turning the temp on the heaters down and down till it is off. With the bubbler running, it is all the rosy minnows and comets need. The white comets start turning grey as soon as the temp starts going down . The fish are all pretty spectacular to watch all summer. And WHO woulda thought Angels as an actual pond fish???

Another great set of info for Fish Files and Angles is an awsome subject as they are usually bought as a starter because Ohhhh Lookie. Angles are a great fish and fairly good second type or branching out starter fish. Again with the even vs odd numbers thing. Probably a geographic to era thing. I almost always started small angles in groups of 7 (Odd indeed) and as they grew and/or paired off thinned down to just a paired off couple. Only thing I would say is that if you are going for a medium size tank 45g/170l or smaller make sure the store will either give you credit for or just take back some of them as when they start getting to big or picked on/bullied it is best to, well, start a new significantly larger tank or return them. But best for a new home. Thanks Matt as always. Looking forward to the next. Just an FYI. I am totally awesome at not knowing a thing at all about shrimp.
@FishShopMatt2 жыл бұрын

@FishShopMatt2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, they do tend to be quite territorial. I would probably look at a group of peaceful loach species to go with it. You may find if you add a singular loach they will just fight until someone is victorious.

@FishShopMatt2 жыл бұрын
Thank you that's very kind of you to say. Glofish have varying popularity depending on where you are in the world. They are a genetically modified fish and this can be done to a few different species. In the UK I believe they are still illegal to sell or keep but I think there are a few loopholes. I'm not a massive fan of GM fish, but everyone has their own tastes and that's what makes the hobby awesome! ❤️

We don't have a fish shop here in northern NY. I had to order mine that I had. I did get a pair out of the 6 I bought, but they ate the babies every time, out of the 4 times they bred, before my hip arthritis made me have to sell all my tanks. The angels I got were very skittish, and darted off in all directions, everytime anyone approached their tank. They never outgrew that, and I don't know why they were like that. I always thought that they were perhaps bred and grew in huge ponds, and had never seen people, or been in an aquarium situation. Any thoughts on that? I'd like to have a tank again, maybe one I could manage, a small one perhaps, and only one, not the 6 big and small ones I had before. Off topic of angels, I also bought a few bristle nose plecos, Who had no problem breeding! I absolutely loved those little guys! I had 6, some albino, and some dark ones. Have to say, they were my favorites, of all my fish. My babies were mixed, and adorable! Anyhow, sorry for the long reply. Loving your videos, thank you. And your collabs with MD also have been great!
@FishShopMatt2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear you had to downsize, at least you have all the wonderful videos on KZbin to watch. Angels normally aren't too skittish, I've seen confident fish become skittish before due to loose eletrical current in the water. Other than that it may have been a issue with how they were raised before you got them, like you say kept in a pond with little to no human interaction. That's awesome you should definitely get an aquarium, let me know how you get on! ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Matt, Just came across your channel and subscribed pretty much straight away great content bud. I’m upgrading to a Juwel Rio 350 (4ft) in the not too distant future and have been trying to do some research on what I could keep as a relatively peaceful centrepiece fish to base the scape/stocking around. Do you think a single Severum would do ok in a tank this size or is it sill pushing it a bit for size? Or a couple of Electric Blue Acaras? I have kept Keyholes before which are lovely but was looking for something a bit bigger and eye-catching, I know people often keep keyholes with Angels but as you probably know with the Angels they can go a bit rogue and terrorise everything. Any ideas or opinions would be much appreciated. Cheers
@FishShopMatt2 жыл бұрын
A severum would be fine in this size, another one to look at is the festive cichlid as these are a little smaller and you could have a little group or maybe something like a pearl gourami if you want to go even more peaceful.
@brianwatt89272 жыл бұрын
@@FishShopMatt thanks for taking the time to get back. I do like Pearls aswell to be fair, had toyed with the idea of an Asian style setup with Pearls & some sort of Rasbora or maybe Pentazona Barb, at least that way I could still keep live plants.
@FishShopMatt2 жыл бұрын
@@brianwatt8927 no problems I will always try to reply but it does get tricky with a lot of messages and comments. That's what I was thinking, the other option is having a look at some of the larger rainbow fish but you would ideally need a good shoal of them so not really a focal point fish.

Will you please answer a question? How many neon tetras can I put in a 60 liter tank Aquascaped tank?
@FishShopMatt2 жыл бұрын
It's such a tricky question to be honest, with great filtration, lots of plants and regular changes you could probably get 20 or more in there. But the more you have the easier it is to get it wrong. ❤️

I had two baby Angelfish that were fine in the community tank until they grew up. One started bullying the other so it was rehomed. The other Angelfish seems to be happy living on her own with the other fish & doesn’t seem to eat their babies (she is well fed).

Unfortunately my other tank has some nippy tetras in so if it goes wrong I couldn't put them in there , loving your channel
@FishShopMatt2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! ❤️ Sorry to hear this, probably the only way of trying to add more angels is to add a small group of around 3 or more. This was the angels can group up if they feel threatened or stressed. It will still be a risk but I would hope you could do it. Also worth slightly rearranging the tank before the newbies go in as this will then distract your male from his territory.

how do you have so many angel fish in thank tank at 12:00 ? I was told angel fish would need a minimum of 10G for each one otherwise it will be overstocked and will die

Hey Matt, any chance you could do a Geophagus fish file covering the different varieties?
@FishShopMatt2 жыл бұрын
Yes I'm tempted to do a species file where I do a overview of a family group rather than an individual. I'll see how I get on with it! ❤️❤️❤️

Matt a question frozen food feeding defrost it or just toss the cube in the water and let them munch on it ? Love these fish files keep them going :D

Personally depends on the setup. Some frozen foods can be a bit dirty and release nitrates and phosphates into the water. For a bigger fully planted aquarium these will be used up quickly by the plants. In a smaller aquarium or one where you're suffering with algae I would defrost and net it in.
