I have been following these teachings along with Joseph’s book, Mindfulness. What a wonderful gift to have such a lucid explanation. I was primarily interested in Buddhist philosophy and these teachings have opened up the path of practice. Thank you. 🙏🏻

The principal of change is the only thing that doesn't pass away. Basic Taoism. Every passing moment peels another layer off the onion of experience, until there is nothing left. Basic doctrine of no-self. This is why Buddha taught that there is no Atman. No eternal soul. At the center of self is extinction of all perception. Nihilistic, but you gotta call em like you see em. Ultimately that is the preeminent difference between Buddhism and Yoga. No God. No self. No perception. Extinction. That is truth. That is inevitable. Embrace it.

The layers that you mention are the layers that constitute forms within the reality, as we commonly see it. This may be called conventional reality. However, when all these layers are stripped away, or seen through, what remains is non-dualism, or Absolute reality, and hence cannot be expressed in words. To say it exists is not correct, to say it does not exist is also not correct.

There s an instance in Buddha’ s life someone accuses his teaching as ‘nihilistic’ but he denies it. Also adds he is not agreeing to the ‘eternalist’ doctrine either. So it becomes a challenge to a philosopher who uses logical building up to define and categorize doctrines. As a practical teaching to eradicate suffering and it’s cause, he was not too much into concepts & philosophies that much. Even if he was an excellent logistician, he didn’t encourage it much. Sathipattana Sutta is the central text to prove this practical approach to see and understand our experiences clearly. His was the teaching based on meditation, morality, compassion & wisdom.

The life force itself is forever existent, unchanging immovable. All phenomena come to pass… The life force or energy that gives life to everything is unaffected by any movement and any change. Your body is born and dies, your pure essence is always alive because it is life itself.
