An honorable mention would be the 2nd level spell Gift of Luck, which clerics can cast as a ritual. Giving yourself or someone advantage on 3 d20 rolls in a day is pretty amazing.

the insightful maneuver looks pretty cool, the image of a paladin headbutting a dragon before ripping it to shreds with smite is really cool to me, or a arcane trickster using it right before sneak attacking the target for extra damage, like "The rogue touch's you on the shoulder, and with a smile and a wink, runs you through"

On a clear day creatures can see up to 2 miles away. Now obviously it's unlikely to work that far in practice (thanks to buildings, etc) but that is a ridiculous range. Also, arguably you are a creature that can see you (otherwise you wouldn't be able to target yourself with single target spells). So memento mori has the potential to work on yourself.
@MrTarrasque3 жыл бұрын
Well wen in combat I as a dungeon master would just focus on everything in the direct vicinity. That said, I see players meta gaming this by standing on a high building and stunning an entire town square or something. I'd let my players do that. After all, it's a living and breathing world, every action has a reaction.

Find a book on Filipino monsters or Hawaiian. Kobold press basically adds every culture combined with the core monster manuals with their own monster manuals. Filipino people are very compassionate about their culture and appreciate when someone takes time to get to know it. So reviewing books from Hawaiian and also Filipino folklore could help people of some other cultures feel included. Biggest reason I say this is because I noticed each culture but those 2 have been included in core and kobold press.

There are literally only two things about Night Terrors that are worse than Hold Monster are that it can't affect creatures immune to being frightened, and it's not on the bard spell list. Same paralyzing effect, same casting time, same saving throws, same duration, longer range, affects an area instead of a single target, and frightens creatures in that area regardless of the saving throws. Hold Monster is a 5th-level spell. Night Terrors is 4th-level. This has to be a mistake, right?
@XpVersusVista3 жыл бұрын
kobold press spells really suck at balancing their spells. or rather, they intentionally make their stuff OP. it's the curse of wanting to be "better". They make the work of creating a spell and selling it to people, so their hubris comes into play. If the spells aren't stronger than the vanilla spells then what are they good for? imagine this: you make a spell and someone else, lets call him herbert, makes a spell. It feels way better for you when people choose your spell over Herbert's and they do this when your spell is stronger. This thinking and habit is the sole reason for "power creep". Just look at magic the gathering or hearthstone. Or look at Moba games: newly released characters are usually above the power curve. and yes, its completely stupid. not a mistake, just the personal need to be better from the creator.

The version of Insightful Maneuver in 5etools has it give advantage on attack rolls against the target, instead of adding a vulnerability. But the PDF I have saved of the book has the version described in the video. It seems likely that the 5etools version is post-balance change (it seems more in line with a reasonable 1st-level spell power). But just to be sure, does anyone know of a way to confirm which is more up-to-date?
@draconicLatte Жыл бұрын
Advantage on attack rolls is given by the Anticipate Weakness spell (another 1st level Deep Magic spell)

Can somebody expalin to me Time Jump? It's an 8th level spell, affects only constructs, gives a con save, range of touch, and gives a shorter banishment effect. The only benefit is that it's non concentration. But everything about it is otherwise useless. Am I missing something?

No one is talking about clockwork bolt? It increasing in damage, is a 60ft ranged booming blade/green flame blade, they need to use AN ACTION to remove the bolt which no one will do unless they have minions to take it out, the damage increasing on weapon attack instead of pull out, it deals 1d8 damage with a weapon attack! 2d8 + dex and can work with Sneak Attack or the Archery Fighting style, or an artificer artillerist! If you can gain access to it(should be an artificer spell anyways), and it's a freaking cantrip!!! So that scaling damage goes to 2d8 at level 5!!! Whatt that's so much additional ranged damage if you only have 1 extra attack or none is a little crazy.
