1. Like he said in the video, one can go through training to make themselves more sure of their skills, but even if you're untrained you can still help. Chances are if you call 911 the dispatcher can verbally walk you through how to do CPR for example. Just follow their directions as best as you can. 2. If someone was just mildly injured I could understand that concern but this is life or death emergency situations we're talking about here. If you don't help, the person is going to die. If you do help, they might die or they might live. It's better to help because that gives the person better odds than not helping. 3. Like the guy in the video said, the Good Samaritan Act will protect you if you are just a well-meaning bystander doing only what's necessary to help. 4. Like the guy in the video said, you can use equipment like gloves and whatnot to reduce the likelihood of catching any disease, or just help in ways that don't involve touching any bodily orifices. If nothing else you can at least call 911, that's at least better than doing nothing. 5. Obviously don't put yourself in a situation in which you're in danger but if you can try to get yourself and the other person out of that environment. Again, if you can't do anything else, like he said in the video you can call 911, because again that's still better than doing nothing.

I remember about 15 years ago, as I was trying to catch a connecting flight in the middle of the night in a city and airport I was completely unfamiliar with, a woman was screaming that her child wasn't breathing. I'll say this: it's the *not* trying that will haunt you.

I have a DVD about C.P.R. and I usually try to listen to it at least once a month. It helps to refresh my skills. Once when my Dad was chocking on a dried piece of fruit. I recognized the signs of chocking hands at your neck. I immediately ran over and started doing chest compressions under his arms( he is a big dude) I kept. doing this until he stated to fall to the ground I helped him to go down to the floor and the piece of dried fruit. Got dislodged from his mouth.... At that point I was on the phone with 911. My father opened his eyes and said What happened? I said I am on the phone with 911. Oh don't do that. I told the operator what he said. They have to come to check him out anyway. I said ok. Not less than a few minutes and 2 police cars arrived, the resuce squad battalion chief arrived and a fire truck and an ambulance came. After they checked him out they asked me what he chocked on. I said this. The dried fruit. ( At the time when I called 911 I was pretty upset and actually told the operator that he was choking on an ice cube) After everyone else left . My mom turned around and looked at me and said are you o.k.? I said I was pretty shaken up but I had to do what I had to do. The next thing I heard my Dad on the phone with my brother John telling him that I had saved his life. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time..
